Washington InnAnniversary DinnerThis is our third time at The Washington Inn! Again it was outstanding! My husband had the sea bass and I had a pork chop. Servings are large and delicious! Will no doubt return again!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday DinnerCelebrated my sister's 50th birthday here, and it was wonderful. Everything from the drinks at the bar to the fantastic dinner made this a great experience. The staff were friendly and made the evening even more special!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways special!I have eaten at the Washington Inn several times over the past 20 years. It NEVER has disappointed!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDisappointingI have been to this restaurant many times over 20 years. This visit was disappointing because of the high noise level in the restaurant. Also, the dress standards have deteriorated to the point where many diners wear jeans and tee shirts. This change makes Washington Inn less desirable for special occasions.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMCape May's bestVictorian splendor with great service and food!
Our waitress was outstanding, offering insight with great people skills,
My husband said this was the best pork chop he ever had!
My veal saltimbocca was good and of course presentation was spectacular.
Truly what we wanted for a special birthday dinner.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMRemember to ask for the RIGHT menuWe arrived and were seated promptly in the Garden Room. Cocktails first and then the menus but the steak option for the "Restaurant Week" was not there. We asked the waiter and he said no this is the correct menu. We found out later that we were given the Early Bird Menu which was different than the one we were looking forward to. Anyway, the food was good for the early bird and we were told to come back again but to ask specifically for the "Restaurant Week" menu. I hope that the wait staff becomes more aware of what is being offered by the establishment. Strange!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery time, exceptional.Every time we visit the area we dine at the Washingtongton Inn and are never disappointed.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently GREAT !Always one of our favorite places to go for a special occasion6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth a return visit! The meal was fabulous from start to finish. My husband wants to go back and eat the exact same meal again.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMJust the best!!!Food delicious, wonderful presentation, cooked to perfection!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Dining ExperienceFor the second year in a row my wife and myself have gone to the Washington Inn for our anniversary. Both times were wonderful dining experiences. The food has been excellent, the atmosphere very pleasant and the wait staff very attentive with out being overbearing. Our waiter, James, asked if we'd be having dessert. We hadn't planned on it as we were quite satisfied and full with our meal. When my wife mentioned it was our anniversary in conversation with him he disappeared and then reappeared with a chocolate tower with Happy Anniversary written on the plate. Then he borrowed my iPhone, climbed on a chair and took a picture of us with the dessert. Thank you for making a special event even more special.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience! We had a nice dinner at the Washington Inn on Saturday, 01-Jun-2013. The appetizers were delicious and the entrees were excellent. Our dessert was strawberry shortcake with actual shortcake, which is rare! Overall, a great experience and I would recommend this place.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial PlaceWe can count on Washington Inn to cater to whatever we are celebrating with the best food and drinks we've ever had. It's a bit pricey but worth every penny. Truly masterpiece dining.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMNot inexpensiveDinner for my wife and me set us back $160 without tip. I would not expect anything but perfection for that price. My wife had the grilled shrimp appetizer which was excellent. I had the braised lamb with penne, it also was excellent and I would recommend having it as an entrée which is available. My wife had the espresso rubbed duck breast which was nicely done. I had the dinner special lobster ravioli for $33 which was bland, tasteless, disappointing and way over priced for what was served.
Service was excellent, we had an enjoyable experience but probably would not return because of price to value.
We had an excellent meal at Tisha's the following night for substantially less money plus it's BYO.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoy!Great setting, good food and a relaxed dinner experience. You don't feel rushed like other higher end establishments. Food is great!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently outstandandingMy wife and I have been coming to Washington Inn for nearly 20 years. It has always been worth the trip from Pennsylvania for special occasions, including my wife's surprise 50th birthday party in the wine cellar and our recent 40th anniversary. The service and food has been consistently outstanding and they always tend to the special little touches that make the occasion truly memorable. If I had to compile a top ten list of meals I've had when dining out, Washington Inn would dominate that list.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday dinnerWent for my birthday dinner and everything was amazing. They gave us the perfect table in the back. The food and the wine were amazing.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBest food in Cape MayDefinitely the foodie restaurant in Cape May. Food is up there with what you'd expect in large metropolitan centers. They're reliance on farm-fresh ingredients and relatively sophisticated flavors add up to a very good experience. The dining area is classy, and there is an enclosed patio space that allows diners to enjoy the light. Service is friendly, and the pace is right. I wasn't overwhelmed by the maitre d', who didn't seem welcoming enough, despite my dining there multiple times. I have a feeling that while kids are accepted they are not overly welcomed (that said, the rest of the staff go out of their way to pay attention and cater to the children). Valet service is a plus. All around best dining in Cape May...easily.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for our anniversary...theWe went for our anniversary...the first they said was happy anniversary!!! Food was a great...service excellent...they were very attentive to our needs!! After dinner we did not order dessert but they still brought a scoop of sorbet with a candle on a plate with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate complimentary...very impressive!!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect place to have ourPerfect place to have our 27th anniversary. Quiet but not lonely. Great food and great service. Making and changing dinner times was so simple it was hard to believe.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousOutstanding meal at the Washington Inn over Memorial Day. Had been once before, and didn't find it memorable, but this time it was fantastic. The Crab cake and scallop apps were great, possibly the best crab cake I've ever had. Duck was a large portion with great flavors. Will definitely go again next time in Cape May.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly Recommend! From the food to the service to the ambiance, the Washington Inn was a pleasure. Every one of the four of us enjoyed our meal. The variety of items on the menu would suit any palate. We sat in a porch area, which was quiet and made conversation easy - a rarity in most restaurants. It was a high-end dining experience in a low key, informal atmosphere with cordial, friendly service. We look forward to returning again and again. Bravo!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent RestaurantWashington Inn is my favorite restaurant in Cape May. Every time we get down to Cape May for a long weekend it is a must we
have dinner at the Inn. Never had a bad meal or bad service. Will be back many time to come!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA Little DisappointingWhile not our first experience at The Washington Inn, unfortunately it was not as outstanding an experience as in the past. We were seated in the newest area, just off the bar, and it was far too noisy and far too warm. The conversations of the other diners were so loud and close they were impossible to ignore. The room temperature was far too warm for comfortable dining. The service was wonderful, as always, although the waiter was not as knowledgeable about some menu items as he could have been. The quality of the food was very good but the menu selections were somewhat less interesting and unique than on our previous visits. Hopefully they were just getting into gear for the season and the great Inn from our previous visits will return!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMModern antiquityThe Washington Inn's decor is a soothing classic feel. The service is of the highest order. The reisling wine was stupendous. The plate was a work of art. It was so beautiful my daughter sent her sister, a real foodie, a picture of it. These daughters had been there before and recommend the Inn to their father and myself since Cape May is one of our most favorite destinations. My husband thought it would be nice if I took her. What a wonderful time we had! I recommend it as an experience one should not leave out of their Cape May visit.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMToo crowded. This restaurantToo crowded. This restaurant needs to learn when to stop seating people who show up at the door.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent find in Cape Maywe love this Inn for dinner and will return. One small complaint that they serve really , really small martinis. they need new martini glasses. otherwise, everything was fantastic.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMaking amends for a bad wineFood was outstanding and service was attentive. However, the waiter was (apparently) unprepared for our rejection of the initial wine choice (White burgundy, Jura region; "Cuvee Sacha" 2010). The wine was simply bad, period. We were then visited by the sommelier (he announced his name but not his role, so it was a little unclear if he was actually the sommelier) who was most accomodating with another French white burgundy (vintage 2007) at a slightly higher price, per my agreement. Thereafter all was well.
Only nit to pick was having our party of 5 seated VERY close to a couple that, unfortunately, were very loud. The room was otherwise not full. Oh, well, restaurants can't control for loud diners.....5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was wonderful!Everything was wonderful! The food was great and the service was wonderful...we love going here.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMy favorite restaurant in Cape MayI try to visit the Washington Inn at least once a year... To me, it is a "special occasion" restaurant... I couldn't afford it every week. But it is well worth the price. The food is spectacular. The maitre d is always extremely pleasant... The wait staff was very friendly and helpful... Even the valet boys were exceptional...All in all, a very pleasant and memorable experience.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Good VisitWe had a very nice visit for dinner here, I had the halibut which is usually rather boring, but the coating and sauce made it a wonderful choice. They were accommodating when I asked for a green vegetable rather than potato which I thought was exceptional. Our server was excellent, there when you needed her and happily took a photo of us. We did have an unhappy oops at the bar, however. The male bartender was sooo anxious to serve us that he was taking our order even before we were seated and consequently got the order wrong and had to pour out my first drink. This apparently angered him because he proceeded to whisper to the female bartender. He made the experience uncomfortable.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA very nice timeFor us this was a splurge - more than we could normally spend but a special treat for Mother's Day. It did not disappoint.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMothers Day BrunchThe food we as excellent especially the desserts!!! The service was as good as always. The only downside of the brunch was the location of the food. The area was very small, lines got long and it was in the cross way of new customers being seated.
The price was right and the food was good.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMCape May favoriteCelebrated Mother's Day here along with my daughters birthday. They had great specials but you could also order from the menu which I prefer rather than a prix fixe menu. I had the halibut special..absolutely delicious, we had a group of 8 and everyone loved their food, they even brought out a birthday desert for my daughter without us requesting one which was a nice touch. We always enjoy our food here, one of our favorite places to dine.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food & service.Patrice was our server & she was wonderful.
Food is always amazing.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMHusband's Birthday DinnerWe went to the Washington Inn on Saturday, May 11th to celebrate my husband's birthday. Everything was wonderful I had the pear salad and swordfish (special) entre. My husband had the (special) shrimp with fresh quacamole (soooo fresh, I won't be able to eat any other!) and the lamb chops. Dessert was fresh berries for me (watching my weight :)) and bananas foster for Jim...who would have licked the plate if he were at home! Everything was delightful. Mario as our attentive and personable waiter. We'll be back soon to enjoy the 5 menu offerings for $5 on a Friday at the wine bar...always a lot of fun!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMbest food everhave been here a few times over a 20 years. At a wedding this weekend, and made a reservation for two, then 5, then 7. Well everyone at the table order something different, and it was all great. everyone one loved it..5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday CelebrationI took my wife to the Washington Inn for her birthday. The service and food was excellent. Even though she declined dessert, the waiter preserved the surprise occasion by delivering sorbet with a candle in it.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food. Scenic environmentVery good food. Scenic environment . Excellent service.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways ExcellentThis is a place where you never have to worry about anything--food, service and quality. Love it, will always be at the top of my list...5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for one and all.....Whenever we come to Cape May for an extended stay, we always make a reservation at the Washington Inn on Saturday night. The entrees and appetizers are first rate and delicious whether you select a fish dish, duck, steak, lamb or veal chops, etc. The service is exceptional. Michael Craig is a gracious host who makes your evening a top notch delight. Make sure that you get at least one or two of their signature Beach Plum martinis. If you like a good martini, believe me, you'll thank me for this heads' up tip. The prices are reasonable for Cape May dining. See you there soon! Semper Fi to all my Corps buddies out there!!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, service andExcellent food, service and ambiance. Dined there New Years Eve and again for our April anniversary. Both dinners memorable. Will return next time we are in Cape May. Highly recommend.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMDressing for dinner?Always reliable and delicious.
As is true nowadays, people don't dress as they should. Superb food should call for respect in patrons' appearance. I don't expect designer clothes, but sloppy casual is disrespectful. Somehow the excellence of the food is a bit diminished by the slugs at nearby tables eating it.
Not the fault of the Inn. Cultural problem...4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI've book this place to celebrateI've book this place to celebrate my wife's birthday and it was prefect. The food was great and portions were big. We started off with the bone marrow and crab cakes for our appetizers. Bone marrow was excellent and the crab cake was fresh and sweet. We're big foodies and this was one of the best bone marrow we have had. For our main we had the fluke risotto and lamb. The fluke was seasoned and tasted very fresh. The lamb was cooked beautifully med-rear and goes great with the reduction. This is definitely a return spot for us the next time we're in Cape May. This please is definitely more dressy than casual. They will not turn you down if you're in casual clothing but you will feel out of place.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been going to theWe have been going to the Washington Inn for years and have never been disappointed. One of my favorite restaurans at the shore/4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAs usual, the Washington InnAs usual, the Washington Inn was exceptional. We drive 180 miles round trip to dine at the Inn. It's well worth the trip. The wait staff is exceptional, and the food outstanding.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were wonderful.Food and service were wonderful. Probably the best salmon I ever ate.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Washington Inn is ourThe Washington Inn is our families 'look forward' to dining experience every time we come to the beach. It is our special occasion, get a babysitter night out. The food and wine were outstanding this trip. Our server was fun and helpful in ordering. But after that he didn't follow up in a timely manner to see if we needed more drinks or to bring the dessert menu or the check.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMHadn't been here for a whileHadn't been here for a while due to everyday life but was glad I was finally able to get back. Serve was knowledgeable and friendly, food was wonderful and ambiance was great. Will not let too much time pass before I return. A great evening out with friend at a first-class establishment.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe are locals and enjoy eatingWe are locals and enjoy eating at the inn only in the off season. It is to crowded and too loud during the tourist season. We thought we were safe last Saturday but it was extremely busy. I believe there was a girlfriends weekend in Cape May as there were more groups of women than I had ever seen there before. I am also disappointed that people were jeans, tee-shirts and baseball caps in the dining areas. Are we so afraid to offend people that dress codes are no longer encouraged? Wish people were more considerate of each other.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
