  • "I admire Warren's Blackboard for trying to see what works best...but I didn't care for the new burratta appetizer. Oh well, I guess you can't win them all. The main course is always a treat - whether fish, chicken, or beef. On this occasion we went on a Sunday evening.The crowd inside was primarily in shorts. I felt it took away from the classier side of the establishment. Normally we go on a Saturday. Don't get me wrong, California casual is fine, I just think this place deserves a bit higher standard of a dress code..."

  • "So strange to be the old Howard Johnson's, but Warren's Blackboard has made this their own! Fantastic service and food was on the top par of the best restaurants in town! We had the ahi in poke sauce and beef ribs for appetizers - ahi melted in your mouth and ribs were soo tender! Only wished the ribs arrived a little on the cool side but still was delicious! The pork chop will be something I will always get - tender and so tasty! Polenta was perfect! Mary's chicken is also a go to - Never had risotto that melted in your mouth!! You have to get the stuffed zucchini blossoms - as good as Mozza's and desserts - oy! Try the chocolate molten cup and sticky toffee cake - hope they bring back the churro ! Bon appetit!"

  • "Tucked the Beverly Garland hotel, this restaurant is a fun mix of locals and visitors. The food is good, the staff polite and attentive and there is an interesting energy to the bar. The restaurant itself is only half-updated so you get the look of an elevated hotel diner. The patio outside the bar is a great place for wine and chat on a nice night. Will definitely be back this Spring and would recommend."

  • "Recommend this Pop-up restaurant for comfort food at reasonable prices. Been waiting for this in Studio City for years. Had kale caesar salad, excellent, pork chop w/ polenta and apple slaw, excellent, best i have had in LA. Also at the table burger w/ french fries and salad. Everything we watched being served looked great. Looking forward to going back to try other dishes. Chef Warren is experimenting with the menu pending a remodel and opening restaurant, based on customer feedback. I hope our community supports this restaurant."

They were on the menu one night me we went back 2 days later to have them again and they were not there. I hope they decide to make churro's a classic on their dessert menu they are truly amazing."

  • "Great food, our server Jordan was friendly and engaging without being obsequious, and even a pleasantly surprising interior re-design considering that it used to be a Howard Johnson's about a million years ago! Great quality tuna in the poke, well done vegetarian dish; the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 for food was we would have liked to see a little more variety in desserts and salads. Wonderful choice for our girl's night birthday celebration!"

  • "We have been here twice in the past month and love the food and the service. The servers have been very efficient and friendly, and seem very knowledgeable about the menu items and willing to make recommendations when asked. The chef puts interesting flavors together and we enjoyed every dish we have tried. Prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes and quality of the dishes. The dining room has a cozy ambiance, and the bar/lounge area looks nice although we haven't tried it. I understand they are remodeling in the near future, but hopefully they will maintain the concept of a great, seasonal menu in a comfortable space. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "This place never disappoints us. In fact, it spoils us. They work as a true team, and every member of the staff wants to make sure customers are happy. On this occasion we attempted to share the beet salad. To be honest, it was a bit small to share. Nevertheless, we had our entrees coming...Hubby had the steak, which he devoured. I had the chicken with risotto. The risotto was yummy and interesting. Crunchy with what I think were strips of asparagus, and filled mushrooms, Italian rice, and a cheesy sauce. Mmmm...And the we went overboard. The chocolate pot de creme...OMG...We rolled out of the restaurant to go see a show, but I know it's just a matter of time before we MUST go back, and we will :)"

  • "Food is creative and comforting at the same time. All dishes, kale caesar, crudo, burrata and pear, lasagne, bolognese, Mary's chicken, all excellent. Oysters rockefeller were delicious too, but we all longed for more than just 3. Service needs work - waiter was flummoxed, took our order twice and with each course something was wrong. Friendly, warm atmosphere. The place was full and you could still have a conversation. A very welcome, high quality restaurant in a part of town that is devoid of anything worth visiting twice. We'd return anytime."

  • "From the moment we walked in the service was friendly. We dined out on the patio which, even though next to the parking lot, was very pleasant. We both liked the fish tacos. The hummus was really smooth and tasty, and the tomato soup was lovely too. We also shared the lobster sandwich…not really my taste, but no complaint about the quality. The venue was much bigger than visioned. It was very clean and it felt like people cared. It would absolutely be considered if/when the need for a venue for a group or party arises and I will come again. Give it a try!"

  • "My wife and I came to Warren's Blackboard for the first time a few nights ago, for Valentine's Day. I'd read about the place and concept and wanted to try it. We were not disappointed. Service, food, and ambiance were all first class, and we were excited to have found a restaurant this relaxed, yet still elegant, and with such a promising menu and helpful staff just a few minutes drive from our Hollywood Hills home. We definitely come back, before and after it's eventual transformation to the Front Yard."

  • "We went there on Valentine's day because they were doing a pre-fixe menu. We didn't know what that menu was going to be but based on their regular menu we thought it couldn't be that bad. We were wrong. The special menu had absolutely nothing that we wanted to eat except the dessert. We asked the waitress if we could order from the main menu which was this giant blackboard we were facing. The items on that looked amazing. She said no, it was only items on the special menu. Then she said there was a bar menu that had a few items that were different. We asked if we could see that and she said we could only get that at the bar. The food we ended up ordering was well prepared but not our taste. We want to try this place on a regular night."

  • "We were visiting LA and heard about Warren's Blackboard from a wine blog we follow. It exceeded our expectations. First of all, we loved that their wine list included wines from our favorite wine region, Paso Robles.They had a nice selection of by the glass and had a generous BLEND selection which always seems to have more interesting options than the typical single varietals. We took advantage of the 3 course tasting menu which was more generous than the average tasting menu. There were 3 starters, 3 entrees and 2 dessert options so we each got a different selection and shared bites. The favorites where the popover with mushrooms, the pork chop although the scallops were a very close second and the homemade churros where to die for. YUM"

  • "I've been here before but it is now completely a revamped menu and restaurant. I started with the small Ceasar and then moved on to the Cuban Sandwich. I started with the intention of having a half a sandwich but it was soooo good that I ate all of it. The roll on which it was served was packed with meat and cheese and kept inviting you back to just keep eating it. French fries cooked to perfection only added to the job of stuffing my stomach with good food. Highly recommended as to food and ambience."

  • "We were greeted warmly and seated immediately for a 7:30 reservation. We got a brief description of the concept and ordered cocktails. Everything we tried was utterly delicious. From the albacore poke to the buratta & pear starters: both outstanding. I had the pork chop which was tender and wonderfully seasoned. My friends had the salmon and said the same. We all started with cocktails and then a bottle of wine: nice lists at reasonable prices for both. My only dissatisfaction was the timing of drinks & starters which arrived in reverse order after a long wait, with no apology or disclaimer."

  • "Second visit in 2 weeks the food was that good! Last week: albacore poke,bright/citrus tempered by dab of guacamole on wonton crisps; pork chop over polenta, tasty tender and perfectly cooked. This week: albacore poke (told you it was that good!) Sliced NY steak sitting atop a horseradish infused twice backed potato, drizzled with Bearnaise, green beans on the side. The steak was beautifully rare with melt in your mouth flavor. i was uncertain about the potato but it was the perfect accompaniment & not overpowering. Companion had seared Ahi and kept raving about it! Limited dessert selection but the chocolate pot-du-creme was dark and luscious. It is quite a drive for me but the food was so wonderful I cant wait to go back!"

  • "We were excited to try this restaurant for Dine LA because even though we weren't familiar with it, we liked the pop-up restaurant concept and the menu was inviting. We were seated and greeted by our server promptly. After we ordered, we waited almost 30 minutes to get our appetizers. When our entrees came, we were given the wrong pasta, and never received our order of "really great fries". Lastly, when we got the bill, we were charged for an additional entree. Those were the misses. That being said, the food was very tasty. I ordered the popover with mushrooms and asparagus, which was had a really nice depth of flavor. And, even though my friend received the wrong pasta, she thoroughly enjoyed it. Great food, yet unorganized!"
