A word from Ward's House of Prime Milwaukee
Collectively, we’ve been in the steakhouse business for as long as you’ve been craving a truly unique dining experience – maybe even longer. At Ward's House of Prime Milwaukee, we learned what you wanted from a steakhouse and then we designed a restaurant where high-end entrees are served at a reasonable price in an atmosphere that’s upscale yet relaxed.

At our steakhouse, we want you to feel just as comfortable ordering full-plate entrees in the main dining room as you would ordering from the bar menu and watching sports in the lounge. While prime rib is our specialty (served every day), we also give special attention to seafood, chicken, veal and vegetarian entrees as well as our lighter fare of appetizers, sliders and stonefire flatbreads. And we offer a variety of martinis, beers, cocktails and wines by the glass – as well as an extensive list of 500 wines by the bottle, all at a fair price.

  • "Upon arriving at Wards the service was terrific. I made the reservation on line with no difficulties. We were immediatly seated and our waiter Tim was quick to attend to our needs. Tim was engaged and friendly and very informative of the nights specials and recommendations . Our food arrived in a timely manner, hot and cooked to our exact specifications. Fresh and delicious! I would not hesitate to recommend Wards and will definitely return when we are back in town."

  • "Our service was great, the drinks were great, but the food wasn't as good as previous visits. I asked if they could check on the availability of rare as it was later in the night. The server came back and assured me there was rare left...and my prime rib came out medium. It still tasted good, though it was quite over done. I didn't say anything because I was too hungry to wait for something else and I didn't want to disrupt the conversation I was having with my friends. It won't deter me from returning, though. I just might go earlier in the night (although I am usually a later diner). That I usually eat rare and I could still enjoy the flavor of the over-cooked hunk of meat--that says something."

  • "Have not been to Ward's in aboutba year. Food was excellent, service was good but server did not have much personality, but she did a good job. We were down at Bastile days and were worried we would be under dressed in T-shirt and short. Fortunately we were welcomed. They may want to clarify dress requirements as casual on their open table posting, we almost did not go because we were unsure. Overall we were very happy. We will be back"

  • "Lobster bisque starter was flavorful and hot. I like my soup hot so this was important. Prime rib was tasty although it was more on the rare side than medium as was ordered. Service was very good and the quiet elegance of the room was soothing. Over all a very enjoyable experience."

  • "I have been to Ward's on several occasions, and I am usually not disappointed by the food. My last visit was no exception, but I should say there probably should have been a little more barbecue sauce on the pulled pork sandwich. The service could have been a little better. It took about 5 to 10 minutes before the waitress came to our table after we were seated. After that, she was somewhat scarce. Fortunately, there were other staff that were able to take away the dishes as we finished our courses."

  • "...nothing over-the-top. The food (prime rib) was cooked perfectly. Great taste, ok/good wine list, nice atmosphere. Good service (which is great, considering it was during Milwaukee's Downtown Dining event). Dessert was a little lacking (we were taking advantage of "Downtown Dining" with the limited menu... we had the flourless chocolate cake and a key lime dessert... I believe - not 100% on the latter). Both were just "ok" in our opinion."

  • "We visited during Downtown Dining Week. The bread basket was plentiful and tasty. The Ceasar salad was ok - a little too tangy for my taste. A little disappointed in the desserts. The desserts offered were the banana cake with cream cheese frosting or chocolate cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting. Neither cake had a lot of flavor. In fact, they almost tasted the same. While I enjoyed my experience, (except for the dessert) there are other places I would go before I would go back here."

Not only was the meal great and the service likewise, but we were able to enjoy our conversation despite very healthy background buzz. While perhaps a bit expensive for regular dining with friends this is a great place for special occasions and for business entertainment. I'd expect the same to be true at lunch as well."

  • "I was here for downtown dining week. I can't say I was overly impressed with the items on the limited menu. My salad was very standard, the steak had no seasoning on it so it was rather boring, and the banana cake was not impressive at all. The cake was large, very heavy, and lacked any distinctive flavoring. I noticed other tables had barely touched their cake. Perhaps it was due to downtown dining week, but I feel that the restaurant missed the opportunity to really market themselves for this occasion."

  • "The prime rib, for which the restaurant is noted, was excellent. Probably the best I've ever had, if not very close. The wait staff was a mixed bag; they were attentive, but unwilling to make a substitution for a low-carb item for a side. Also, from the time we got our check and my card was returned to me, no one on staff said a single word between that time and reaching the exit. Normally people will wish you a good night, etc., but no one said anything. They weren't terribly busy either, so that's no excuse. I have a suspicion that it was because my wife and I were not as well dressed as others, given that we had both just come from work. My money spends as well as anyone else's, so I wasn't real happy about that."

  • "My significant other and I went to Ward's to celebrate an anniversary. We arrived 40 minutes earlier than our 6:30 weekend reservation, and decided to have a drink. There was a mom, dad, and their 2 kids at the bar having root beer floats while waiting for their take out dinner. They were the only other people at the bar, and the bartender seemed to make them feel welcome too. Our appetizer (Seafood Platter) was very good, the Scallops were the highlight. We were a little concerned with the "Wall of Fame," meaning, that if their gimmick is to sell larger and larger cuts or prime rib, would the quality suffer? My concerns were unfounded, as I chose the 24oz cut -- The flavor was exceptional, texture was tender, temperature was spot on. "

  • "Observations after repeated visits - #1 service is outstanding - it's the little things like refilling near empty wine glasses which many waiters ignore but somehow still expect to get tipped on the price of a bottle of wine - BTW the wine list is reasonably priced - meals are well paced too - food is fairly straight forward steakhouse fare but consistent and well presented - would be nice to have a veggie choice if you don't want one of the potato options "

Didn't mind sitting in the bar since the dining room was apparently full. Even thought my daughter was 17, she had no problems dining in the bar either."

  • "We went in for lunch in the middle of the week, got there right at noon. There were six other tables or so, not at all crowded. I had a prime rib sandwich and my friend had the 8oz. prime rib. My sandwich was dry and didn't have a lot of flavor. My friend's first reaction to the prime rib was "it's a lot bigger than I expected!", but it was really salty. The service was top shelf and the waiter was super friendly. We came away disappointed with the food, but willing to come back and give Ward's another try for dinner."

  • "We were having a nice and romantic dinner and suddenly they seated a group of six near our table. They were very loud and we had to talk loud to hear each other. I would hope in the future the host do a better job seating guest. I would suggest keeping couples group together and large parties group together."

  • "Salads and Appetizers-very good Service was very good as well. Dinner-We had Filet Mignon and Prime Rib. The filet was not very good. Not much taste to it and a lot of fat. The Prime Rib was dry and tough to eat. I had the chocolate cake desert. It was not good at all. It was dry and not much taste to it. We were looking forward to eating there but left very disappointed."

  • "Service was so-so. Our waitress seamed like she didn't want to be there. If we had not over heard the waiter at the next table explain the deserts and the overall menu, we wouldn't have known about the small details. She was not discourteous, but lacked personality. We will probably not come back. The food was great quality, but no seasoning on the steaks. Plate presentation lacked any embellishment. We figured for the price of the meals, the service should be impeccable. "
