A word from Ward's House of Prime - Delafield
Collectively, we’ve been in the steakhouse business for as long as you’ve been craving a truly unique dining experience – maybe even longer. At Ward’s House of Prime, we learned what you wanted from a steakhouse and then we designed a restaurant where high-end entrees are served at a reasonable price in an atmosphere that’s upscale yet relaxed.

At our steakhouse, we want you to feel just as comfortable ordering full-plate entrees in the main dining room as you would ordering from the bar menu and watching sports in the lounge. While prime rib is our specialty (served every day), we also give special attention to seafood, chicken, veal and vegetarian entrees as well as our lighter fare of appetizers, sliders and stonefire flatbreads. And we offer a variety of martinis, beers, cocktails and wines by the glass – as well as an extensive list of 500 wines by the bottle, all at a fair price.

  • "We had a party of six. Our table was well cared for by the wait staff. We all had salads, either Caesar or wedge, and liked them. Four had prime rib which was very nice. One had a strip steak that satisfied him. The salmon special was delicious. We did not get desserts."

  • "RESERVATIONS: I made an online reservation (super-easy) to guarantee we'd have a table for our anniversary weekend dinner. FOOD: The hubs had a 24 oz prime rib, salad and mashed potatoes. I had a 14 oz bone-in filet, twice baked potatoes, salad. Excellent--very tasty, and the meat was cooked perfectly. DRINKS: My hubby had some Spotted Cow ale, and I had my first ever martini! Cory's Cosmopolitan--yummy! We also had some fantastic coffee with dessert (see "SERVICE"). SERVICE: Impeccable. I waffled between 2 desserts before making my choice, and when the server or mgr. decided we waited too long to get it, we were brought both--ON THE HOUSE! It was a lovely evening on the balcony outdoors!"

  • "We both had steak and scallops. First, let me say that the steak was tender and flavorful. It was the highlight of our meal. The noise level was very high; we had trouble carrying on a conversation. The scallops were overdone and almost soggy. The double baked potato was mushy, lacking the crust on top the way that I like it. The presentation was nonexistent; the food was simply thrown on the plate with little thought given to the way it looked. For the prices they are asking (our dinner came to $130 with 2 glasses of wine and no dessert), I expect a lot more value for my money. I won't be going back any time soon."

  • "We had a great experience at Ward's. Downstairs is a very vibrant bar with wood paneling and wine lockers. Dining is upstairs. Formal but comfortable with white tablecloths, wood floors and local art on the walls. Our server was very nice and gave good feedback on our questions. My husband had the sea bass and he said it was one of the best he has ever had. Huge piece cooked perfectly. I had steak and scallops and all were delicious. Nice wine list - reasonably priced and you will find all of your favorites in there. We will definitely be back."

  • "We tried this looking for a steakhouse out by where we live in Lake Country. It was our anniversary and we wanted to go to a nice restaurant to celebrate. We were impressed with the wine list & quality of the food. When we made the reservation we wrote that it was our anniversary & were surprised with a large piece of cake for free! We will be back & have already told others about Ward's in Delafield!"

  • "Service was very good, with a very nice waitstaff. We did order an appetizer which never came. Food presentation was very bland. Steak on a plate...that was it. No garnish whatesoever. A 6 oz filet on a giant square - with nothing else on the plate looked very awkward and like a giant rip off. Food tasted good, however, for the money I would try another place next time."

  • "We dined at Ward's this past Saturday. We arrived early for our dinner reservation. The bar staff was very friendly & helpful. Dinner was excellent. I had the Sea Bass, my Wife had prime Rib. The Bass was as tasty & flavorful as any I have ever had. The Prime was very good. We thought it was overpriced for its size. (8oz.) Overall a most enjoyable evening. We will be going back for sure."

  • "It was our first time at Ward's and it won't be our last for sure. It was a beautiful evening and we were able to dine outside. Our server, was very friendly and helpful. Two people in our party ordered the Prime Rib which was cooked perfectly. One person ordered the Lobster Ravioli and she also said it was very good. My husband ordered a New York Strip which was excellent. We ordered the mushrooms, dinner salads, and Brussel Sprouts and all the sides were very good. We never went inside so I can't comment on the bar area. We also loved their great wine selection. The restaurant Manager, (I think) came over to say hello and thank us for dining with them. I appreciate that little gesture. It was a lovely dining experience."

  • "Wife & I were pre-celebrating Fathers Day with the hope of finding a superior prime rib. Everything was exceptional except the prime which was wonderful looking but lacked taste. We're still searching. Only downside was the upstairs seating. My wife walks with a cane but negotiated the stairs with effort. After dinner we discovered that they do have an elevator but noone offered that option on our arrival."

  • "I had never been to the restaurant in Milwaukee, but if it's anything like Wards in Delafield I will be going back to both! Gotta have the a prime rib of course which was excellent, ask for the horseradish sauce if that's your thing cause it is good. Our salad with house vinaigrette was very nice. Sides were good, my twice baked potato needed a bit more pop, kinda bland. My party ordered asparagus, it was cooked well but our hollandaise sauce was a bit broken. The wine lists was robust and had a lot to choose from. Overall, it was a bit on the expensive side but it's not to far from what you would expect for a quality meal in Delafield. Service was excellent and ambiance was nice, a little loud in upstairs dining area, not to bad."

  • "Was there with my wife for our 22 anniversary. This new restaurant is in our community. I would like it to succeed. I have never been to the original restaurant downtown. My first test for all steak restaurants is comparing their seafood/lobster/shellfish bisque. This was a disappointment. Was it created from a stock canned broth? It was very bland, thin and simply boring. Don't get me wrong, it tasted pleasant but not what I would expect from a high end steak place. I made a similar note with my steak. Just needed a little more seasoning. However on a very positive note, I ordered my steak rare, which I usually do. For one of the first times in my life I was actually served a rare steak. That was truly a treat."

Just a piece of meat on a plate. We expected much more for a $42 steak. There are much better pubs in the LC area."

  • "Dined at Ward's with out of town friends visiting from Denver. Very quiet Monday night so hardtop judge normal flow. Food was fabulous. well prepared, nicely presented. We shared calimari and ahi tuna appetizers. Everyone had steak or prime rib. Overall a wonderful experience. Pricey but then this was a special occasion. "

  • "Wanted to try a new place for our anniversary and Wards hasn't been open long. We arrived early, planning to have a drink at the bar before dining, but the bar was packed, and our table was ready. We were very disappointed that our small table for 2 was in a corner jammed next to the stair case. First thing we noticed before being seated was the noise. Horrible acoustics. There was a loud table of 4 next to us, and a party of 8 nearby--we literally had to yell to each other to be heard. Took a long time to have a server acknowledge us. Did nothing special for our anniversary--didn't say a word even though we noted it on Open Table. Outstanding food, even the house salad. Too bad the service was average at best."

  • "Had a lovely quiet table for four upstairs but knew trouble was brewing as behind us was a table set for 20! And of course they arrived just before our food was served. We told our waiter that we didn't think this was going to work. But he brought our food amidst the very loud party of 20! We were not happy and had to remind ourselves that this was NOT the waiter's fault. What manager would put a group of 20 right in the middle of other diners? Even if the group did not request a private room, a restaurant manager should know a party that size would be a disruption to other diners!! The owner tried to make it alright with a gift card. As a business owner we know anyone can have a bad day. We will give it another try."

  • "Steak was very tender but had no flavor, did not even have salt and pepper, the grilled shrimp appetizer was overlooked, the ceaser salad that I paid extra for was too wet. With The amount of money we spent, I expected better. We told our server that the grilled shrimp was overlooked, he said sorry but he should have deducted from the bill."

  • "Our party of 6 was seated at a round table which was nice for conversation but the room was so loud we could not hear each other across the table. Four in our group had the prime rib and two had filets. The filets were luke warm and all 4 prime ribs were very full of fat and not very tender. One prime rib had to be sent back as it was cold in the center. The wait staff was quite pleasant about taking care of that request. The twice baked potatoes were like something you would buy frozen in the store and put in your oven, not what I would expect. I do have to say the service was very good and the staff was friendly. We will not be going back as there are too many other great restaurants in Milwaukee at this price range."

Very happy to see that they were able to take their downtown Milwaukee format to the lake country! Bar is a bit small, with too much area devoted to dinners (save some tables for waiting before dining). Upstairs is cozy, bit quieter dining experience. Can't wait for outdoor seating. Food was great too! Would be nice to see some unique items as compared to downtown menu. Give me a reason to drive out there more often!"

  • "Food was awesome, but for a steakhouse, the noise level is too HIGH. When you have to raise your voice to talk to someone sitting right next to you, it's not good. The owner said they had someone in to evaluate acoustics. Good thing. I hope this gets fixed, because that is the only negative thing I could come up with, but sadly it would be enough to keep me from coming back."

  • "My wife has wanting to try Wards and decided this is where she wanted to go for her birthday, so expectations were high. Wards did not disappointment from the friendly greetings from the hostess and prompt seating to our friendly waitress our service was great. Our food from the appetizer, calamari to the soup(lobster bisque) to our main course of prime rib was excellent, done exactly how they were requested , along with delivered at just the right pace.We finished off with some espresso and creme brulee. it was truely a wonderful dining experience and cant wait till our next return"

  • "This was our second time hosting clients at Ward's in Delafield. We have dined at Ward's downtown a number of times. Steaks were good. Salads were sad affairs with little taste or creativity. Sides were passable but nothing to "write home about." Service was fair. We waited over 30 minutes after finishing our meal before being offered desert or coffee while our waiter "gabbed" with a couple at another table. At that point we were the only 2 tables occupied in the upper dining room. We entertain clients frequently and dine out in the area and around the country often. The service issues and the middling non entree items were concerns."
