  • "I really enjoyed my dinner and drinks with friends at this new spot! The waitress was very helpful when deciding what to order."

  • "It was a very vibrant restaurant. The Steak Frites I ordered didn't come out as ordered but was tasty nonetheless. The drinks were well made. Our waiter was courteous, attentive and well versed in the menu options. I would definitely come back."

  • "Great spot really vibrant bar and crowd. Walked to the TD Garden after dinner. Food was good, portions were perfect. Loved the bar scene and the people watching. Will definetly go again."

  • "Outstanding but very noisy - come ready to love food and service and atmosphere but also to shout !"

  • "Went on Sunday for brunch with a party of six. Everyone really enjoyed what they ordered-especially the French toast, eggs Benedict , lobster and the burger. Great tasting coffee and refills were always fresh. Finished up with the frozen custard with choice of toppings. Great brunch selections and welcoming and attentive staff."

  • "Went to Ward 8 as a post-work spot on a Tuesday and the place was packed! The menu is inventive and both orders were delicious - salmon and sole! The wine list is pretty solid."

  • "My girlfriends and I love to go out to dinner and try new places - we were excited about this dinner on Saturday night and upon entering the restaurant we were greatly disappointed. The bartenders were extremely rude to us, to the point of putting his hand up in our face and telling us the spot was already taken and then proceeded to not even ask if we wanted anything to drink. We then walked around the entire bar to find another open spot. While waiting 15 minutes (for reservations we were on time for), not 1 person offered us a drink - with the exception of the bar back who replied "anyone else behind here can help you, but unfortunately i can't". We asked to speak with the manager when we sat down and they never showed..."

  • "We went to Ward 8 for dinner. We got the lamb bolognese which was very good (pasta was al dente and really tasty) and the lobster roll which my wife proclaimed to be the best in Boston. It's an unusual roll - open faced on a grilled piece of focacia. The truffle mayo put it over the top. Drinks were very good too. Very laid back place, service was attentive but not intrusive. Huge bar, and as others have mentioned, serving sizes are a bit small, but the food is great. Split an app and get an entree or sandwich each and you'll be fine. Easy walk from North Station. We will be back."

  • "It was a Sunday night, and I was on the way from point A to point B. This place was on the way, so I gave it a shot. I made a reservation even though I was going solo, and the host was very cool about welcoming me and getting me to a comfortable spot at the bar (which is the focal point). The bartender knew what he had to offer and how to serve it. I appreciate that. The food exceeded expectation. If I walked in with a scowl, I walked out with a smile, and that says something."

  • "I thought the food was very good. The wait staff was very attentive, re-filling water glasses, checking on us. It was very crowded for a Wednesday night, and was very loud. One of the downsides of the restaurant. They had just started offering dessert, but we didn't get it-place is very close to the North End-so we went there for cannoli. Over-all I would recommend this restaurant for quality food and good wait staff."

  • "The Duck Wings were amazing and very tasty. The portions on the meals could be just a bit larger and they need coffee and dessert but I will be going back for sure. Vee at the Bar was awesome"

  • "Living the the North End there are not too many brunch spots in walking distance. I was more than excited to try this new spot considering it is around the corner from my place. Ward 8 has an awesome atmosphere and the lemon ricotta crapes are delicious - highly recommended! Can't wait to go back for a late night drink after seeing the huge bar and unique cocktail list."

  • "We shared all small plates, but next time will try some entrees. Service was excellent - very helpful in navigating the menu and a food allergy. Everything was delicious. Definitely get the duck wings. We will be back."

  • "Different than all the normal north end Italian. Amazing dishes, steak frites were great and drinks are cool. Loud bar and music but fun atmosphere!"

  • "Ward 8 was just okay. The menu selection is very small, so you would expect anything your order to be outstanding. I had the burger and my friend had the shrimp salad. Both were to the truest definition of being just mediocre. I think if the prices were a little lower, Ward 8 would be considered a neighborhood gem because its definitely from the usual North End scene. However, the prices are a little high for what your getting and the menu selection is very little. I probably wont come back. Not because it was good, just because there are a lot of other places to give my business to that are more deserving!"

  • "Service was the standout at this restaurant. Our server, runners, and manager were all friendly and provided great service. Great menu for both food and drinks."

  • "Had a great experience here! We started with the duck wings and then I got the chicken and my friends got the braised short ribs, all meals were thoroughly enjoyed! I also tried two cocktails, and really enjoyed both (bee sting and chimayo). It is definitely a louder environment, so if you are looking for a quiet dinner this isn't. Itis a great addition to the neighborhood and it will be on my list of places to go to regularly. I see it as a great place to go out with a group of friends because after dinner you can easily pop over to the bar. Also, our server was a lot of fun and very attentive!"

  • "Steak taco app tasted like the ground beef taco packet you'd buy from a supermarket. Halibut with mushroom sauce is just an awkward combination. The food combination of pasta, mushroom sauce, and halibut does not work together. Bolognese was average if not underwhelming due to the lack of food on the plate."

  • "Went for a quick dinner pre concert at the Garden..our server was friendly and good. We shared the tuna tartare appetizer which was fabulous. Loved the sauce made with coconut milk withe just enough spice and was that a hint of lime..so good with the taro chips..we wished we each had our own serving. I had the Citrus Grilled Shrimp Salad which was delicious and not too big. Just enough for a lighter dinner. My husband really enjoyed the Burger..overall a great experience and we'll be back to try out some of the Main Courses."

  • "We were there for a 6:30 reservation for a group of 4 ppl and unfortunatley we were just getting apps and drinks because we only had a short time before catching a train... we were probalby asked 3 times if we wanted to order more, and it just felt a bit pushy. The apps we did have were SO good (duck, flatbread, tuna tartare - all delicious). I had requested the table be set for a champagne toast with a message online and when we arrived and they followed through 100% without even a reminder. The waitress was very sweet and attentive and my waterglass was always full, love that. Table dining is lit well but the bar is very dark and its tight - you cant really mingle up there - not my favorite bar, but great affordable/classy dining."

  • "loved this spot. major upgrade from previous restaurant. perfect menu for a group with varied taste. oysters were fresh, tuna tar tar had a new twist that we loved, steak was cooked perfectly. only problem was we felt rushed at the end of our mean, and were not shown a desert menu. it was on the late side on a slow week night so I am guessing we were the last table for our waiter before he was cut so I can't really blame him. We saddled up to the bar and finished out the game and our drinks so it was no problem. the service was amazing and multiple waiters not just our own stopped by to see if everything was ok throughout the night so I only add the above comment if I had to pick one thing to mention."

  • "Heard about this place from recent Globe article and glad we tried it out! Article said it's in a great location - close to the Garden for having dinner before events. I'm glad we made a reservation! Everyone else must have read that article - it was packed. The wait staff was very attentive and the food was good. We were sitting at a high top table next to the bar and watched the bartender concoct these really cool looking drinks. Our waitress told us they would be opening for Sunday brunch soon and we might go back and try them out! I would definitely recommend Ward 8 but make sure you make reservations if there's an event going on at the Garden!"

  • "The only reason I didn't give Ward 8 5 stars was for the noise level as others mentioned in their review, it was REALLY hard to hear the other peope at our table as the acoustics are not great for a big crowd. Other than that, we loved everything about Ward 8. Excellent service, food was superb all around, great drinks...I will say the bar service was really slow as they were packed, might need another bartender for pre-Garden event rushes like Monday night. This will definitely be our new go-to before events as well as for just a night out, it's a gem!"

  • "After reading the review in The Boston Globe, I was hoping for something really distinctive. In the end, glorified bar food was what was served. Okay. Nothing to write home about. Won't be going back anytime soon."

  • "Varied menu with some very interesting choices. We had the Lobster Roll, Miso Salmon,Mussels, Duck Wings ( they were delicious but were duck drumsticks ) and drinks. Very happy with the meal and overall dining experience! Highly recommend this place."

  • "I found this place 2 months into it being open and I'm a huge fan of it. If you want to get away from the typical Hanover St. madness and tourist scene this is a great spot. Its hidden and from the outside you would never expect the ambiance/atmosphere. It has a relaxed yet contemporary look to it. The food is great along with the drink menu. Whether you are looking for a romantic/date night or a spot to have a few drinks before or after heading to the Garden this is a good spot to check out. I'll be back."

  • "Had dinner at Ward 8 with my husband and two friends before the Celtics Game. I requested a table change since the table we were at had some sort of a draft, they were not able to change our table, however the hostess explained the reason, and it made sense. Further she must have informed the manager because he came over with an appetizer on the house, which I thought was a very nice gesture. The food and drinks were really good. The waitstaff was super friendly and seemed happy to be there which always creates a positive dining experience. The atmosphere was lively and energetic with a mix of people. The restaurant was packed and so was the bar, fun place for dinner or drinks!"

  • "Very convenient to the Garden, great food, fun, space was a bit tight.....overall a great place we will return to and recommend. We went with our 2 children both in their twenties...all 4 of us enjoyed our dinner"

  • "We'd heard good things about Ward 8, so were really looking forward to it. The appetizers we got were good (the salad was good, the buffalo duck wings a bit too sweet). But the entrees were consistently WAY under salted (chicken AND pasta). We had to ask for salt and proceeded to douse our food with it. To top it off…no dessert! Definitely a choice for the restaurant, but it made you feel you were being pushed out quickly for the next round of diners."

  • "I was really excited to try Ward 8 but was not impressed. It is far too loud I was not even able to hear the person sitting next to me let alone anyone else at the table. The service was terrible, absolutely no personality and no menu knowledge. I told him we had never been to the restaurant and asked for recommendations and he was not able to provide any. The food and drinks were okay, Nothing creative or special and definitely not worth the price tag. Lastly, we waited at least 15 minutes for our server to come back (after we watched him flirt with another server) to the table and run our credit cards and he still did it incorrectly and had to return to the table to ask how much on each card. Bottom line I will not be returning!"

  • "This was a very pleasant place for my boyfriend and I to spend our Valentine's Day night. The server was super friendly and attentive, and you can tell the whole place was hustling to make sure everything came out in a timely manner. If you like cocktails this is the place to go! But if you are looking for a quiet place then I would not recommend this, as the noise level is very energetic. Finally, my only complaint would be is that they have no dessert menu or coffee. They could of easily made an extra $15 off of us! Other than that, this was a lovely place that we definitely plan on going back to for drinks and/or dinner."

  • "Great option for pre-game. Good food and drinks, not the typical Italian place you'll find everywhere else in the north end and not bar food."

  • "First time here - Friendly servers, the Curried PEI mussels, delicious! One of the best I've enjoyed in a while - ordered extra bread to soak up the juice, so good. Suggested to our server they may want to serve it with a spoon so you can enjoy every drop! Main entree, tried the Ginger Miso Salmon - mouth watering and cooked to perfection, accompanied with organic quinoa pilaf and bok chou - a brilliant combination of flavors on my palate. Although the noise level at intervals made it difficult to hear my date talking, I would definitely return!"

  • "Nice spot on the outskirts of the North End. Has the potential to be a good neighborhood spot as more units are put in, and the Lovejoy Wharf project nears completion. It has good food and cold beer, thus making it a great step-up for the pregame dining options around the Garden. Food is "American Bistro" style. Small menu but lots of "sharing" type plates, encouraging the bar scene to some degree. Although I stuck with beer, they have an expansive cocktail menu and seem to take their cocktails seriously. Bear in mind, though, that this place is very loud. The whole room in done up in subway tiles which seem to reflect the sound back upon itself. I was sitting at a two-top and I had to yell for the person across from me to hear me."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised to find Ward 8 on OpenTable. I booked a reservation before a concert at The Garden (essential to book in advance) and didn't know what I was going to find. Nice ambiance, great bar, great service, nice food options, all good. Clearly the place is trying hard to deliver much better than the normal Garden neighborhood beer and wings. They even re-fold your napkin when you get up for a bathroom break - nice touch."

  • "We could not get in anywhere and Ward 8 was recommended - other reviews looked great so we went and were not let down. Made a killer drink, food was quick and very good. Service was fun and friendly but not overbearing. Highly recommend!"

Food was very good enjoyed all our meals ...the prices were not as bad as I thought they would be ....we were not hurried out were told to take our time and enjoy....very pleasant night had by all.."

  • "Perfect location for dinner before bruins game. Service was swift without being rushed. They were sensitive to our need for a pretty quick turn around to get to game, and even though we were 15 mins late for our reservation, we got in/out in plenty of time. Management, hosts and waitstaff were clearly working and communicating well with one another in order to keep the flow of patrons and table turn over well balanced. I always think that is a sign of a well run establishment which leads to good staff morale and a better dining experience. The food variety and quality was excellent as well. Look forward to next visit."
