Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I love the menu at Walnut Grill. We would rather eat here than at any of the chain restaurants. I have the beet salad every time I eat here. The food is always well prepared and delicious. The bread they serve is very good and we had a choice of french toast butter or garlic hummus to spread on it. I had a drink that incorporated ginger beer and two kinds of rum. Our server said a lot of people send it back but that's probably because they don't know what ginger beer is. I love ginger beer and the drink was awesome. Our service was very good but a tad slow, but the restaurant was pretty crowded. They had jazz music playing in the dining area which really added to the atmosphere."

  • "Online site for the menu locks your computer up!!!!!Dropped off a cake for a surprise birthday dinner and when the waiter came...asked who's birthday it was because a cake was in the back.....so no surprise there ! Drinks were expensive anywhere from $5 to $9,50. Bathroom was small dirty with broken toilet paper holders and for some reason to add to the space problem was a mannequin with a wedding dress on it.. did not help! Dinner for 4 was over $200 with tip, not bad but 2 diners only had appetizers....and food was not that great. Might try for lunch but would not go back for dinner. Did have a great outdoor space with awesome fire pit & outdoor TV's."

  • "Initial impression walking in the front door is a clean, trendy, upscale bar/restaurant. We had reservations and were seated immediately on a Sunday night at 6 PM. Looking around the bar & dining room there appeared to be quite a bit of available seating. The menu presented a nice variety to choose from, so much so that it was hard to choose what to order! The Sunday special drink was sangria; it was very good and quite a huge drink for $3! I had the roasted beet salad and seared tuna tacos - both were excellent. My husband, who enjoys a variety of microbrews, ordered a beer, Caesar salad and Parmesan crusted chicken & gnocchi - he was also pleased. We shared the Brownie Works for dessert and split it four ways and it was plenty!"

  • "Such a variety on the menu. Appetizers and filling enough if you just want small plates and drinks. So many options and have never been disappointed. Great kids menu or enough on the appetizer menu for kids to choose from. The wait staff is what you would find in an upscale expensive restaurant, but this is more of a neighborhood place."

  • "There were 8 of us for dinner and we had a wonderful time and our server, Devon, was the best! She truly seemed happy to take care of us, and we were able to have fun with her. She even complimented US at the end. Nice time! There were a couple of glitches with a couple of meals that were not her fault. One was my own fault and one was there were 2 others (I think) that the kitchen was at fault. Thank You Walnut Grill and especially Devon!"

  • "Walnut Grill clearly takes great measures to hire servers with great personalities. Without exception, every time I've been there, the service has been wonderful. The fantastic service is a pleasant compliment to the delicious food and extensive beer and wine menus. This is a fun place to dine, with no chance of disappointment."

  • "We went for girls night and ended up ordering multiple appetizers and multiple desserts. Nice variety of drink selections. The fruit and cheese plate was very generous, fresh -fruit and cheese choices. Lobster mac also very good. White pizza great. Excellent waitress."

  • "After being seated, we waited 10 minutes to get a server. The server for our table was occupied. Another server observed that we were not being served and came over to help. We appreciated her pro-active actions. After our meal, we discussed the situation with the manager. He apologized. We told him how the server came to our rescue. He gave us a gift card so we would return. So the experience started out badly but it was handled properly in the end."

  • "Had a nice dinner with my wife on a Tuesday evening. Was seated quickly and I was impressed with the attentive wait staff. Drinks were ordered and arrived quickly. The food was okay but certainly not memorable and a little over priced in my opinion. In spite of that we had a very nice experience and I will be back to give this restaurant a second try. Maybe the food will be better the next visit."

  • "we went for our anniversary dinner but it was more casual than we expected. salads were very good. my husband's chicken and gnocchi were good but my fish lacked flavor. Nice place but not as fancy as the mt. Lebanon restaurant. Our waiter was nice and attentive but the hostesses were a bit snobby - like we interrupted their conversation when we arrived for our reservation."

  • "MY FRIEND AND I HAD A WONDERFUL MEAL HERE. OUR WAITRESS WAS QUITE ATTENTIVE AND MADE SURE WE HAD EVERYTHING WE NEEDED. THE PRICE WAS COMPARABLE TO OTHER RESTUARANTS IN THE AREA AND THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD. I WILL BE RETURNING WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN THE FUTURE."

  • "Appetizers not worth the price. Entrees food costs do not warrant the price asked. But, still the only place to go in the area other than Rumfish which is also overpriced for what you get. We're held captive in the neighborhood !"

  • "We will go again but there is nothing special about this place. Glad it's here. I do love the fruit and cheese platter. Not sure why there is humus on it though."

  • "What a great place to get seafood. The sole and mussels were simply delicious! The staff is friendly, nice and very professional. The manager walks around and takes care of what needs to be done. Awesome place for a great dining experience. The Clark's, Jim & Karen "

  • "We tried walnut grill for the first time and ended up very disappointed. The prime rib sandwich reminded me of steakum and the buffalo chicken wrap had preprocessed chicken along the lines of subway. Our server greeted us in 5 minutes of arriving and our drinks took another 5 minutes. The server also messed up the special instructions on the quesadilla and ordered the wrong fries with my sandwich. We never were greeted by a manager the whole night as well. Overall a big let down. "

  • "Little high priced on entrees. Menu is not high quality enough to warrant prices at those levels. Should come down 1-$2. It won't hurrt food cost much, but will prevent loss of sales by being identified as an expensive restaurant."

  • "We enjoyed being at the Walnut Grill. We were meeting relatives who we hadn't seen in years. It was a good place to be able to get together and chat...without a lot of noise. The food was excellent."

  • "The food and service was excellent. My only complaint would be with respect to the happy hour drink prices. The restaurant does not honor the happy hour drink prices so customers were going and getting their own drinks. Doesn't seem very customer service friendly."

  • "This was my first time at Walnut Grill - the service was fine and our waitress was attentive and friendly. There was absolutely no ambience at all. We were in the "dining" part of the restaurant - we were put in a back room that lacked any kind of ambience. The salad said it had nuts in it, but my friend had trouble finding any in her salad. The pasta dish I ordered was terrible - the pasta was overdone and soft - there was no taste to the dish at all. I probably would not go back as there was nothing special about this place. I did read some reviews ahead of time and they all pretty much summed up my comments."

  • "We had a great spontaneous Mother's Day dinner after my son's sports finished for the day. Great atmosphere. We sat outside, enjoyed a glass of sangria and had a great dinner. "

  • "A lot of options, a lot of food. Not kid friendly. Only wished there were more lunch options on the buffet that aren't meat related. Price is a little high. Would have preferred to pay $17-20"

  • "Mother's day buffet was outstanding & very extensive! Even though it was Mother's day we were not "rushed". "

  • "Walnut Grille fills a void in this part of the county-- sort of Scott/Heidelberg. It's a comfortable place. Brunch was great. Been missing a good brunch spot in South Hills-- even though Walnut Grille's Mt Lebanon sister fills the need in that geography "

  • "not notable except food was good very slow service, kitchen got both orders wrong - waitress told us manager would come over he never showed too much attention paid to a diner nearby with too many gold rings and look at me attitude! not sure if we'll go back"
