A word from Walnut Creek Yacht Club
Ellen McCarty and Kevin Weinberg opened the Walnut Creek Yacht Club in May of 1997 with the mission of bringing the finest and freshest from the sea to Walnut Creek. Why do we call ourselves a yacht club? Because we want to bring the atmosphere of a day on the Bay to landlocked Walnut Creek. We want our guests to feel comfortable, relaxed, and welcomed. Our décor includes many beautiful nautical touches: teak, mahogany, stainless steel, and even an authentic jib which was a gift to Kevin from the America’s Cup Defender, Alinghi. In January of 2008 we completed an extensive remodel, expanding the restaurant by twenty-five percent, and adding an oyster bar. We have been voted Best Seafood Restaurant in the East Bay by Diablo Magazine for the last 11 years, and have won numerous other awards, including Best Chef, Best Bartender, and Best Sommelier. We have a full bar, and a Wine Spectator Award winning wine list. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "First of all, our waiter was awesome. Very enthusiastic about the fish that were being served and an aficionado on the dishes. Our meals were excellent and I have no complaints whatsoever. I've been coming here for over 15 years and it's always been delicious. "

  • "I was immensely surprised to find this gem in WC that has the flavor and feel of Scomas! FRESH seafood, ACME bread, most amazing calamari in NorCal. Cooked absolutely perfectly; flash fried not oily but tender and the seasoning was the kicker! (I think I've tried calamari everywhere). Foodie/Heathnut Alert: I love choosing my own preparation and sauce/topping for my fish too (rare in a fine dining place). Oh but wait! This place is a fish market too!! $22# for fresh swordfish, good prices too! Polenta fries were cooked better than fries in many places; crunching crust all around and soft on the inside. Service was outstanding! Old school quality like SCOMA's in SF! Can't wait to try the cioppino at WCYC."

  • "We had a good time but.....the clam chowder was so salty and the aftertaste of the Mac & Lobster was disturbing to sleep later. Halibut was small, but superb.... Had trouble with the menu, lots of choices, yet not easy to use.....finally got the hang of it Seth our server made us most comfortable and was the best thing about the evening....."

  • "We sat near the bar and at first the noise level was high but once happy hour ended things calmed down. The food and service were flawless. It was nice to be back at an old favorite."

  • "I chose this place to celebrate my wife's birthday. It was relatively last minute (I made same day reservations for 7:45pm at approximately 4:30pm) and got a table. I also indicated that it was a brithday dinner for two and if possible provide us a booth or something that was not too busy. The hostess asked who's birthday it was and then walked away. I have no idea why they want to know if they aren't acknowledging the person in some fashion. Seating was quick, but cramped. People kept kicking my chair when hostess brought them through (totally annoying). Chowder was luke warm. Otherwise lots of choices & food taste was good. Our server was knowledgeable and well trained. But he also didn't acknowledge the birthday. Oh well..."

  • "Came here to celebrate my retirement. A little crowded, and if you go, ask for a table in the back away from the bar. Food was outstanding. The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly. Waiter was funny, helpful, made sure what my husband ordered would be gluten free. Never felt rushed. A really nice evening."

  • "Excellent fresh fish and seafood, prepared in a variety of ways. You choose the preparation and sauces (served on the side). You chose the side dishes as well."

  • "Great Seafood Restaurant Walnut Creek Yacht Club restaurant has been operating for a long period of time and every time it is as good as when it opened. Nice selection of seafood dishes"

  • "If you love quality seafood prepared expertly, then WCYC is your place. What we love the most is that it is consistent every time we visit. The menu varies based on their access to the best quality seafood sourced from all around the globe, but the preparation and service remain at a very high standard. On Saturday, I enjoyed the wedge salad followed by the sautéed Halibut with lemon and capers. Superb."

  • "Here only once several years ago. Impression: good food, very slow service. This time: food good service very good until 7:30 p.m. when place got busier and our waitress all but forgot us. We were done with dinner and ready to look at the desert menu, but had to wait a considerable period before we successfully solicited her attention. The food: west indian soup, fair but better with pepper; crab cakes average plus; fish tacos; average plus, blue nose bass, very good; grilled halibut, excellent grilling and OK mustard/dill (mainly mustard) sauce, deserts, standard cheesecake average. Price $150 w/$20 tip 2 glasses wine, two soft drinks. A bit steep for party of two, but only slightly given competition's pricing. Fish very fresh."

  • "Went there for St. Patrick's Day for traditional dinner. Best corned beef we've ever had. Chef Kev brined in for a week and it was simply to do for: melt-in-your-mouth tender and the spices he used were wonderful. It was an awesome experience and a fun place to be that night. Dan was in his green sequined vest being very entertaining and fun. All the staff had different festive garb on like flashing 4-leaf clover pins and hats, and the whole meal was wonderful! We are so lucky to have such a great and versatile restaurant that has so much diversity in their menu and bar and puts on so many fun events."

  • "I love the boating theme which is found in the restaurant details surrounding you, as well as on the menu, which is printed out daily. I have a client/friend who is 98 from Oakland who comes out just to have the delicious food. We come here about once a quarter. I highly recommend giving this a try. Next time, we'll sit outside."

  • "Hadn't been here before, but was recommended by friends when I asked where I should take my grandparents to celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary. I'm glad the hostess had the presence of mind to sit us in the back of the restaurant at a large round table because the front of the house gets very loud, so be aware. Since I told them that we were celebrating an anniversary when I made the reservations, they had a little happy anniversary message on the menu - my grandparents loved it! The appetizers and dessert were fabulous. The main dishes were fresh and good, but not as spectacular as I would have thought for the prices. Overall, we enjoyed our time here and I'd come back."

  • "My friends had the trout and scallops, which they very much enjoyed. I had the 3-course lunch and liked being able to substitute a glass of wine for the desert -- a great deal for $20, except for the extremely small portion of White-bass, which was nevertheless very good. Also, the waitress initially brought a salad instead of the soup that I had ordered, which was easily corrected, but also did not provided the mayonnaise on the side for the sandwich as my friend had requested. However, she did offer to bring fresh bread for the sandwich. Overall, was not perfect, but have enjoyed dinner here in the past and would still come back again for lunch."

  • "We have been customers of WCYC for over a decade. It is our favorite place to eat in all the East Bay. By far the best seafood. Always something new and interesting on the 'fresh' menu. We, and all customers, are always treated like 'family' here. Try it if you haven't. You'll go back."

  • "white bass was well prepared. service was good. however, the deal breaker for me was the loudness of the place. had to yell across the table to be heard and often had to ask my friend to yell."

  • "We had another great meal at The West, but the waitress was disappointing. After telling me that they were out of their wheat beer on tap, she later told me that they just loaded up a new keg. She brought me the beer and it clearly was not close to a wheat beer. I don't like being oversold and this was very disappointing. Beware of this at least from this waitress."

  • "Booked a lunch reservation after a wedding ceremony. Granted it was crowded but the service was very slow. They took time getting our drinks to us, and then the appetizers, but we barely had the food on the table before the waitress was asking for our orders. The blue cheese in the chicken sandwich my grandson ordered was indelible even for the adults at the table; however item was removed from the bill after we complained. All of the fish dishes were excellent. We brought a cake which the kitchen served after adding to the sliced presentation but it took so long before it was served that our coffee was cold; we had to wait a long time before it arrived because "they had to brew another pot"."

  • "Fish and Chips is often served wet and soggy. I asked for crisp fish and crisp tatters and got two rage pieces of fish and a platter of fries. Attentive service without being swarm."

  • "our group was happy to be seated at the booth which was more conducive to conversation, but we still found the noise level in the restaurant to be high, nevertheless, our service was fantastic and food and wine were excellent as usual."

  • "Soups were good. Entrees were very bland, I don't remember ever using as much salt as I did! Absolutely no mention of my husband's birthday. So many places in Walnut Creek, we are happy that we don't have to come back to WCYC."

  • "The Walnut Creek Yacht Club has become my favorite restaurant to eat in if I want to enjoy the freshest fish this side of the tunnel. For lunch, I always seem to order the seafood Louie and then ask the chef to do a combination of crab and lobster. The salad comes with a wedge of iceberg lettuce (not my favorite lettuce, but it works in this salad), topped with the fish and surrounded by various types of roasted beets, a chopped boiled egg, avocado and cucumber slices. I always ask for extra dressing because there is never enough dressing on the salad for my taste. Other than that, the salad is perfect in every way! My friend ordered the lobster roll, but it was not up to New England standards, unfortunately. Our service was tip top!"

  • "Snagged a last minute reservation at our favorite restaurant because we are ok with eating early. How fortunate! Greeted warmly at the door by Lovely Natalie and things rolled from there. Of course, great service, drinks and food. The Cookes oysters are absolutely off the charts yummy. If you like oysters, WCYC is the best in the east bay. All seafood is fresh as Kevin, owner/chef) only uses fresh the freshest. Great dessert...brownie with ice cream. Thanks again to WCYC for making us feel so welcome and feeding us so well."

  • "As an "older" couple, the noise got to us right away. But after while, we noticed that we could hear each other and not specifically those next to us. Yes, they were talking, but the overall noise somehow blocked their specific words. The food was excellent and we will definitely go back. Todd was our waiter, and we will request him when we return."
