Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I came to the Banff Springs Fairmont as a mom and dad get away. I reserved the Waldhaus so we could enjoy our first "adult" meal with a Fondu. It was incredible! The table was fantastic, the meal was superb and the service was incredible. What a great way to start our weekend! Thank you Waldhaus!"

  • "The last time we came, we fell in love with the Waldhaus purely on the strength of its Alpine fondue. It was heavenly. Fast forward a year: same ambience, same service, different chef, slightly different menu. The Alpine fondue is sadly gone, but still had high hope for the remaining fondues. Between 8 people, we had 3 fondues. The first one was hot out of the kitchen, and the initial taste was pleasant enough. Then the 2 other fondues came. The other 2 came out cooler. Not a huge problem, other than both (all 3 really) were well overdone on the liquor (the kirsch). It was all we could taste! Maybe with time it may have cooked off a bit, but it was ultimately disappointing."

  • "Food was very good but not quite as exquisite as in 1991 when we had our wedding reception there (I believe the chef has changed since then). Our table near the fireplace was intimate & romantic. Only complaint was that the hostess initially wanted to seat us in the annexed room at the back when there was plenty of room elsewhere. Loved the Amarone wine but expensive at over $100 a bottle. Overall, it is a wonderful small, classy yet relaxed restaurant in the mountains for a special occasion or date night."

  • "Outstanding service in a classic mountainside restaurant! The fondue was incredible. This is a perfect place for a couple to dine in a quiet setting - by the wood-burning fireplace."

  • "My friend an I made a reservation to the Walhaus Restaurant as we were staying the weekend at the Banff Springs Hotel - we were not disappointed. It has a cozy atmosphere, our table was by the fireplace, we had the fondue experience, and ordered Beergarita's and ended the night with Blueberry Tea's. Our waitress was informative as well as funny - we had a great evening. Would definitely recommend!"

  • "The Waldhaus restaurant is a charming little restaurant at the base of the Banff Springs hotel in Banff. This is a must do if you are looking for a charming "nestled in the mountains" setting. Although the main courses are a good typical Swiss/German fare, the "must do" here is the cheese fondue. You can have it plain Swiss-style, or with truffle oil or with onions. Although it is a very simple dish of just bread and melted cheese, it is absolutely delicious. The onion soup here was great as well."

  • "Excellent German menu. The ambience was authentic and the food was excellent! If you want to feel like you're in Germany, this restaurant transports you there. We had the Wiener schnitzel and sterling silver pork chop and would definitely recommend both dishes. The staff were outstanding. We dined with a young toddler and everyone was kind and attentive to our needs. Best dining experience in recent memory!"

  • "Had a great meal here with my boyfriend. The atmosphere was very welcoming and had a window seat. Was able to enjoy a beautiful view of the mountains while enjoying a delicious meal of duck. My boyfriend had the wiener schnitzel which he enjoyed very much. The waiter was very nice and professional and was knowledgeable in regards to the menu and restaurant.Staff were very pleasant and the drinks were fairly delicious as well. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends."

  • "Was here on Sat night. We had the fondue experience with wine pairings. It was pretty pricey but for a special occasion it was amazing. Well worth it but not every week."

  • "We dined at the Waldhaus just before Christmas, while staying at the the BSH. The food was very well executed and comforting as you'd expect from traditional German fare. Our table overlooked the skating rink and we could watch families enjoy themselves on skates and then retreat to the pub downstairs to warm up (etc.) . It was a memorable meal and we will return given the opportunity. (Also greatly appreciated the shuttle back up the hill to the hotel)"

  • "Great setting as the resturant is in the old Banff Springs golf club house. How ever the food was just ok and not truely German, more German inspired. The portions were very generous but did not live up to the price point."

  • "My sister and I visited the Waldhaus for an early Christmas dinner. We shared a delicious Swiss cheese fondue as appetiser. For mains, she ordered the beef Rouladen and I had the Waygu beef short ribs. Both of our dinners were fantastic. The only thing better than dinner was the outstanding service from our server, Julie. She was very knowledgeable and most pleasant. You definitely get what you pay for! The Walhaus should be not be missed on your next visit to Banff."

  • "10 out of 10 for this amazing spot!! Couldn't have enjoyed it more, the food was terrific, the waitress was polite, attentive (but not overbearing), the wine was spectacular and the shuttle service was very convenient. Would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for an intimate dining experience!"

  • "Took my wife here for her birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. Great classic German dishes and beer. Recommend the pork chop and the roulade. They even brought her strawberries and melted tobblerone (sp?) for dessert!"

  • "The food was outstanding, albeit a not so traditional spin on European fare. The prices were fair considering the high quality of the meal and the ambience. I would have expected a more inclusive beer menu with more unique German and European options, there was a decent selection, just not a lot to choose from. In the end I did find a nice hefeweizen that satisfied my palate. The cheese and bread fondue was amazing and was Europe at its best, not to mention filling. This fondue shared between 2 plus and entrée each was enough to leave any room for dessert or coffee. I would highly recommend this, especially as it is not on Banff Ave. and therefore a much more serene environment for a relaxing and classy meal."

  • "Booked this restaurant a month in advance. We were seated in the middle of the room next to a large table of loud adults and six kids running around. The adults drowned out all our conversations during our meal. When we politely asked if we could be moved the answer was no. The waiter was good but left our food plates sitting in front of us for 10 minutes after we were all clearly finished. We decided to decline dessert and go else where. Too bad- very disappointed."

  • "This is an Alpine (German, Austrian, Swiss) restaurant -- they have imported German beer and a good selection of appetizer and main dishes. I enjoyed the venison medallions and my hubby had pork chop -- very delicious. The escargot appetizer was nice as described and as expected. We were so full, could not try the dessert. They have various choices of Fondue."
