The food here is amazing - fresh, varied and somehow both authentic and surprising. The Salt/Pepper calamari haunts my dreams and what they do with tofu should be analyzed by scientists specializing in endorphins. The fact that it's just around the corner and I can get a reservation with 30 minutes notice or delivery makes me realize again and again why even a bland neighborhood in NYC is a magic place to live. Service is slightly chaotic in a friendly way with everyone working to make your meal a pleasure.

Unpretentious.Quiet, Lovely service ( tablecloths), prompt service. A breath of fresh air! Food was not greasy, a total bargain as well. Several dishes stole the show...the sichuan dumplings, the spicy eggplant, General Tso's chicken and the Peking duck. Don't skip the flambe bananas for dessert. I suggest going with 4 of 6 people so you can sample many dishes. Spicy but not burning hot. If you want to save a trip to Chinatown or Flushing, this is the next best thing.

After we placed our order, the waiter said "You ordered too much food" which I thought was rude. We brought home what was left over and just didn't appreciate the comment. We also ordered the lacquered duck and he asked if we wanted him to serve us. When we said no thanks, we'll serve ourselves, he replied, "Good, less work for me". Again, rude.

very friendly service. We were seated right away because of opentable reservation, while there were a few couples waiting. Tables are too small for the size of the plates, you can't fit three orders (two entrees, one veggie) on the table. They should use smaller plates, since that is easier to do than change their furniture. Food is good for chinese food connaisseurs, may be too spicy or salty for others. Noise level is high when the place is full, the sound isolation is not very efficient, although the decor is cozy and romantic.

    Dined on 12/23/2013
A dozen of us had dinner here last week. Among us were foodies, world travelers, and Chinese Food Addicts. Although we all know that Queens is the new vortex of Chinese cuisine, because there were so many of us, we didn't want to make the trek. I looked up this restaurant and thought it sounded great. Fortunately it was. We had hot and sour soup, steamed dumplings, fried dumplings, general tso's tofu, baby bok choy, salt and pepper shrimp, shredded pork and more... All of the dishes were beautifully cooked. The service was very friendly. The interior quite attractive. The new Chinese favorite for us all.

We were interested to try a neighborhood Chinese restaurant for the first time. My wife is Chinese, so we do visit a great many Chinese restaurants throughout New York and New Jersey. Although the menu contains a number of interesting and original choices, we did not find the cuisine to be particularly exceptional in taste. The preparation was very good, but the end results were disappointing.

Wonderful fresh food expertly prepared. In a city of so many formulaic Asian restaurants, I had almost forgotten what really fine Asian cooking could taste like. Wa Jeal is great on all counts. A real favorite! Pleasant staff, expertly trained. Filled with appreciative diners despite the temporary (!) intrusion of the construction of the 2nd Avenue subway, proving that diners still seek out the best food.

From the moment we arrived the staff and place were welcoming. We never felt rushed and there was a full house. We had a coctail, ordered food and it was better than any chinese food I have ever eaten. Not too expensive and just right. The hostess could be my new bestie..this morn, as I am known to before hand, I looked at the nyc health rating. The restaurant gets a C. Not possible. I went here with my family for my aunt's birthday. I enjoyed the place and I'm sure the rest of my family did. The food was great, the place looks classy and the price is not too bad! I think it's pretty cheap for a fancy-looking restaurant. We bought a dish with fish along with many others and they offered to remove its bones. Overall, the food was great (not too seasoned just right for your taste buds) They have big tables for big groups. The waiters were accommodating. The ambiance was peaceful (music they played went well with the atmosphere) and great for eating delicious food! Not so much with the scenic view though...a lot of construction is going on in this neighborhood right now so this place is kinda hidden. So, tip big!

The staff aims to please. So you'd like red bell pepper instead of green? Just let them know. You can actually hear each other speak, and with candlelight, you might actually want to hear more! We were in the mood for excellent Chinese food in a comfortable atmosphere before going to see "Jersey Boys". Wa Jeal was all that and more. The service was the best we've experienced in a long, long time-attentive, pleasant yet not invasive. Their menu was interesting and made it difficult to decide on an entrée. I would definitely recommend it and look forward to the next trip to New York City with another enjoyable dinner at Wa Jeal.

Chinese restaurants are rare and ones that bring the heat are even rarer. This heir to the closed Upper East Side branch of Wu Liang Ye delivers authentic chinese food and is surviving the business killing Second Avenue Subway. It compares favorably to other restaurants that dumb down the flavors and is the only choice on the Upper East Side for Sunday night chinese.

They offer extensive menu and offer many options for vegetarians and vegans who were part of our group. Quality of food was quite good and liked that you can choose your level of spiciness. We had nice bottle of Malbec which was reasonally priced. Ambiance is pleasant with white tablecloths and candles on tables, so not a fast food atmosphere. All in all worked perfect for us. Short walk from the Met Museum too.
