WA Frost & CompanyI always feel transportedI always feel transported when dining at WA Frost. The ambiance and decor are just beautiful. It's a very charming place and I go there at least once a year for my birthday. The only thing I missed this year was the chicken entree that is only served for dinner now, not lunch. Overall, though, I had a great experience.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMIntroduction to the The Twin CitiesI had never been to WA Frost and several friends raved to me about how wonderful it is. They are right! I brought a friend from Pittsburgh who has never been to Minnesota before and she loved the restaurant so much she is going to tell all her foodie friends that MN needs to be on their bucket list!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful experienceWe had a WONDERFUL dining experience. The "micro plates" is a wonderful option, as it gives a small portion for people - like us - who also wanted to try a cheese tray and a dessert.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMenjoyable evening outWe enjoyed trying new foods and the beauty of the old building. The service was great and we had a really great time!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGrad dinnerTen of us had a lovely dinner celebrating our high school grad. Lovely space with tucked-away locations for groups. Food was fantastic -- cassoulet, halibut, snapper, mussels all big winners. Service very smooth and attentive. Love this restaurant, plus the bar and patio are wonderful spots to hang out.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWA FrostGreat service, great food, great atmosphere. No complaints. Romantic dining spot.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMScenic patioThe outside patio was gorgeous and enjoyed lunch there. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Will most definitely go back.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food though a little priceyMy wife and I both enjoyed the halibut dinner the other night. The portion was not large but adequate. The basmati rice could have been a slightly larger portion. I ran out of it before I finished my fish. We each had a nice glass of wine then split a dessert. Add a cup of coffee for her and a 15% tip and it was a $115 meal. Nice and tasty, but getting a little up there for portions received, we thought. I'd also suggest a couple more choices in the desserts area, one being for lovers of chocolate.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFood excellent. Service slow.Food excellent. Service slow. Wine portions small.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMelegant and historicalW.A Frost stands apart from all other restaurants in its ambience, historic building, creative and delicious food and multiple difference venues in one restaurant. The food was scrumptious and elegantly presented to us. We loved and it an will be back as soon as possible.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMComfortable and spectacularI took a friend for lunch at W.A. Frost because it has the most beautiful outdoor dining venue in the Twin Cities bar none. The weather was totally cooperative and we had a lovely, comfortable table. I must say that the food has never been the reason to go to Frost in the past for me but my opinion has done a total 180 after lunch the other day. Wow. Not only was our selection delicious but it was beautifully presented. The menu is eclectic and interesting and makes me want to go back to try more now that I have experienced the "new" and excellent food preparation. The inside is lovely as well if the weather isn't the best. Go for the food first and the environment and professional service makes it a perfect experience.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food - Great Wine! This is an old standby but they are certainly not resting their laurels. The food was great and the wine list is exceptional.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExecutive Chef handicappedBeing in a wheelchair always presents a problem, especially in a turn of the century building. The staff was great although having never been to this restaurant, there was only one seating hostess and the restaurant was very busy.
The tables were a bit close together even for able bodied people but every table was full. The wine list is incredible, the most comprehensive I've seen in this town. Price points were fair althought being sommelier also, a 150% markup is a bit much. If your into rare or unusual spirits, this is your place. Too cold for the patio, I will return, very inviting.
Food was prepared to order nicely, reasonable price points. However, Food presentation was very boring and cafeteria style.
Contemporary menu.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebrating son's graduationOur family of 5 had a wonderful meal to celebrate our middle son's graduation from the University of St. Thomas. After feasting on all the delightful and delicious food, we walked over to the Cathedral of St. Paul for the Baccalaureate Mass. Our waitress Phoenix was gracious and lovely. A truly memorable evening!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMget the chicken!I never order chicken but the server suggested it and it was one of the best meals I have ever had. I was blown away by the depth of flavors and the quality of this meal. I can't wait to go back and get it again!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMlovely family dinnerWe were there before confirmation at the cathedral. Dinner was just what you expect-- wonderful!!!! The fixed price menu from 5-6 was a wonderful surprise! I think we have a new family tradition!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely back patio. InsideLovely back patio. Inside is a bit dark and frumpy. Good lamb BLT and halibut cakes at lunch. Service was extremely slow. Waited a long time just to have someone ask us what we wanted to drink. More long waiting after that to get our iced teas and more waiting again to get our food. Server was pleasant and friendly as was the hostess..5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome!Awesome, romantic, special. Wait staff is the best!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSaint Paul Historical GemService, Food & Ambience are wonderful at WA Frost. Huge selection of wine's from around the world & a wide variety of food. Would recommend it hands down!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMrWent for our 12th wedding anniversary and it was a great night!! Service was great and food was fabulous! Wife had the tenderloin and I had the tuna, which, was the special that night. Wife loved the tenderloin and my tuna was wonderful!! My only gripe and it's a minor one is that the server rattled off the menu specials a little to fast and I had trouble hearing everything available..... Other than that we had a GREAT night and would return!! We've been to WAF a couple of times before, and, are never disappointeded!!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Brunch! We had a cozy brunch, great food intimate setting.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic WeekendWe spent the weekend in St. Paul and one night had dinner at WA Frost. The food and ambiance were wonderful!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOur party of 10 dined at W.A.FrostOur party of 10 dined at W.A.Frost before our sons' Confirmation at the St Paul Cathedral. The staff knew our time constraints and made sure we stayed on schedule without making us feel rushed. The food was excellent. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and accommodating. He made sure our child with nut allergies had his food prepared in a safe manner. Overall, it was a wonderful beginning to a very special night for our family.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMQuiet brunchAppreciated that noisier groups were in separate rooms and love quiet classical music.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a wonderful time.We celebrated our anniversary. She was patient with our table when we delayed ordering. There was a large party in the room next to us. The staff was sensitive and closed the door between rooms so our meal was quiet and anjoyable. Bibb lettuce salad and beet soup were excellent as was the mini-steak. Salmon was good, though undercooked for some (3) while others (2) liked it. Suggest customers be asked how they want it done. Overall foor was tasty, but not quite hot enough.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was so good. TheThe food was so good. The waitress she ignore us a lot. She did not pay attention to us at all. We keel calling her or ask the assistant to call her. In general it was good experience.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply, thoroughly great!WA Frost has an old world elegance that the proprietors hone ever so well. It has a comfortable feel about it in its several different dining areas. It's hard to choose which of them is most inviting. We were there at lunch during one of the rare warm, sunny days, suggesting their backyard patio, a fabulous venue.
From the hostess' initial greeting through to the end, the staff were prompt and nicely attentive.
The menu afforded a good variety. WA Frost, like many other restaurants, prides itself on purchasing locally grown foods. The beef is excellent.
We all fared well with our entrees. Tasty, indeed!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday DelightGreat experience. Went on a Sunday beofre a concert at the Excel Center. The food and service were both great. We liked that the menu wasn't huge and had some wonderful selections. The food we ordered had gert flavors. Would definitey return!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMBlast from the PastThis was a great last minute find for a romantic night out. The menu was adventurous enough for me and conservative enough for my girlfriend, and the waitstaff was great at recommending wine throughout the meal. Serving sizes were great and those mini-desserts that they have are the perfect way to end a meal. Their share-able plates were more than enough to start off with (we had the mussels) and the place was busy enough were you felt like the restaurant was alive but not to overwhelming where service was compromised. I would definitely go again, maybe try something more traditional like the steak (I had the rabbit).4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed a very nice dinnerEnjoyed a very nice dinner in an elegant setting in a relaxed atmosphere.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a great meal. We always enjoy coming here. This time we both had a salmon special and the "Kit-Kat Bar" desert. The salmon was perfectly cooked, and the dessert was an extremely clever "bar" of shortbread, caramel nuts and chocolate with homemade chai ice cream. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, and we were on time for the theater.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife & myself took ourMy wife & myself took our oldest son & his wife to WA Frost for the 1st time for his birthday. Food very good: quality wines with good price range, excellent cheese platter. Korean BBQ chicken wings were tasty but not very Korean: strong Hoisin flavor, more Chinese.
Entrees: scallops, micro-filet mignon, pork shoulder roulade: all tasty and well prepared.
Service: very attentive.
Definitely plan to go again.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful place. WouldWonderful place.
