Diner Reviews
  • "Vue is a lively elegant venue overlooking Asheville and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The cuisine is superbly prepared and the experienced service was most attentive and pleasant."

  • "Very attentive and efficient. Good selection on the menu."

  • "We enjoyed a beautiful evening at Vue 1913 including a beautiful dessert to celebrate my father's 99th birthday. We had the stuffed trout which was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. We thought that the prices were very reasonable considering the atmosphere and quality of the food. Wine prices were definitely on the high side, but we found something that was fine."

  • "The meal was disappointing for the price we paid. The oysters tasted gritty. The potatoes were undercooked and we upgraded to the Kobe filet cooked medium which was cooked medium well and was not very impressive for a $100 steak. I have never ordered Kobe filet before so I can’t compare to anything but I have eaten at nice steak houses such as Fleming an Ruth’s Chris and this was the most disappointing filet eaten compared to other restaurants. I didn’t plan on ordering, the server upsold it to me explaining it would the best filet ever, cutting into it like butter she explained. I did not complain at the restaurant. We were celebrating my 11 year anniversary and it just wasn’t worth getting worked up about it."

  • "The food was great, and the service was too notch too! Beautiful setting as well. Perfect for special occasions!"

  • "Excellent service. Food was outstanding. One of the best fillets I've ever had. Was there for my wife's birthday. She was very happy with the choice."

  • "Food & service were outstanding. Large party were loud and rude. Staff & management addressed and did improve."
    Dined on 8/14/2014
  • "We were received by staff who all were very friendly and gracious. The dinner setting was outstanding with a great view of the trees and mountains. The food was excellent. The beef filet was some of the best we've ever eaten anywhere. The service was impeccable and helpful and prompt. The rose corsage for the Mrsl and the drinks for toasting, all complimentary, were a gracious touch for our 60th wedding anniversary. The experience from start to finish was memorable and worth repeating."

  • "The young ladies acting as Matre d were very friendly. Tim arrived quickly to fill water glasses and then brought bread and periodically ensured everything was to our satisfaction. The real prize was Ralph Lownow, our waiter. A great sense of humor along with a very detailed understanding of how various dishes are prepared answered all of our questions. We learned he is a Sommelier and his recommendation went well with our meals. The food was excellent. It was a wonderful experience"

  • "Not a lot of food for the price. The steak was "best I've ever had" according to my companion. They didn't seat us with a view even though they had tables. Disappointing!! The room was noisy as all get out. They need sound buffers. I couldn't hear my companion right across the table from me."

  • "We went to Vue 1913 for an Anniversary dinner. Everything went well, the food, ambience and service were excellent. However, it was VERY expensive. I think it is the most I ever paid for a meal. And we did not have a bottle of wine."

  • "Had a great time. View was excellent and service was great. Only comment on the service was the food runners had no idea what they were serving. We asked several times what was being served and she said I don't know but it doesn't look like something I would eat. Not the best thing to say to someone eating a meal. We got a good laugh and ate. BTW it was good. We chose the chefs menu to try the different items and got Kobe beef. We also ordered 3 alcoholic drinks and a coke. Total bill with tip $400.00. We knew it before we ordered so no real harm but just a little surprised on the price. BTW Kobe beef is not as tasty as good a rib-eye. Glad we tried it though. Overall great experience."

  • "I brought 9 co-workers to the Vue for dinner and everyone thought it was great. The menu was not extensive but more than enough. Great service."

  • "The grand view is sort of obscured, actually, unless you're sitting right up against the windows and there are only two-tops available along the outside wall. Decor is not particularly inspired, a cookie cutter bistro style. Food was good but considering the price, not nearly impressive enough, particularly considering how many great restaurants there are in Asheville. If you want to experience of really appreciating the Grove Park Inn's view of the mountains, I'd eat at Edison (the pub) or the Terrace Cafe instead."

  • "Everything at the GPI is expensive and Vue 1913 is no exception. Food was good but not exceptional. Service was slow but we were in no hurry. Wait staff were friendly. Pleasant evening but not sure we'll go back."
    Dined on 7/29/2014
  • "The wait staff did their best to manage sub par food that was coming out of the kitchen. The produce was a bit mushy, the dish came different than it appeared on the menu. The unrecognizable hair on the plate was less than charming. They took all of my items off of the tab to their credit, but we would never go back. The price far outweighed the quality. The flax bread was however absolutely delicious! Wish we could have given a better review."

  • "My family certainly did enjoy our dining experience at Vue 1913, the food was great, the service awesome, and the view was wonderful as well."

  • "Brought a business group from out of town for dinner. Service and food was outstanding. My VIP guest, who travels on business and dines out often, stated that it was the best meal he's had this year."

  • "The five courses are priced at $85/person, which is not unreasonable. We were offered a choice of duck or kobe beef as an entree. What we did not know is that the restaurant would charge an extra $50 for selecting the beef. The server also offered us shaved truffles, but neglected to tell us that it would cost an extra $20/person for them. The wine pairings were an additional $40/person, but the 4 wines were not impressive and the pairings were uninspired. Do they even have a sommelier? If so, s/he did not put in an appearance. The new chef is good and his food is quite lovely, but beware of sneaky extra charges. In my case, I paid $100 more than expected. That leaves a bad taste."

  • "Great view. Good service, Very Fu fu. Small portion for the price. Food quality very good. No sides offered, ordered appetizer as side for fish. Truffles disappointing. Air conditioned, sounds as a given, but not all the restaurants are at the Grove Park. Ashville as a whole doesn't believe in air conditioning. Odd but true. Something about history."

  • "Beautiful place for dinner. Located at the Grove Park Inn, it's got everything. The food and dining experience are 5 star for sure, touched by a very friendly service staff. Dinner is a MUST, if you happen to be at Grove Park."
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "Though the atmosphere and service are great, the food vs value isn't too great here. Lots of great dining choices downtown and in west Asheville. Not a bad experience if you happen to be staying in the grove park inn (but ambience on terrace is even more breathtaking at sunset) but didn't knock our socks off for the menu pricing. But you don't typically expect great value at a high end resort;)"

  • "The dining room has a limited menu, and the food was just OK. The portions were small. ( I had seared scallops... three of them. ) The food and service did not match the high cost of dining. The server was robotic. The "bread and water guy", as he called himself, was the only light-hearted server in an otherwise sterile staff. I'd recommend saving your money and dine in any of the other GPI restaurants instead."

  • "My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary at the Vue 1913 and had a wonderful evening! I think every table had a breathtaking view of the mountains which was such a plus for us! Our entire culinary experience was truly amazing! The salad was beautifully plated, the steak was excellently prepared, and we topped it all off with creme brulee (my favorite dessert) with a twist! Then our waiter surprised us with a special anniversary chocolate message!! Our service was exceptional and made the entire evening one we will certainly remember!"

  • "It took almost 30 minutes to get a second glass of wine and our server was not seen often. Food is good, but service is lower than I would have expected for this location at Grove Park Inn."

  • "Above average food, very good waitstaff and spectacular view of the Blue Ridge."

  • "My friend and I dined in the Vue. There was a full tasting menu to which we asked if we could just purchase the entrée the waiter said yes and then proceeded to bring us out the full tasting menu. Neither of us likes seafood and there was a great deal of seafood on the menu. When we explained that there much have been a misunderstanding he became sarcastic and rude. I really don't' understand why because the meal we were charged for was $100 a plate. He continued to be sarcastic throughout the whole meal. I left him a $40 tip which I do not feel he deserved but was giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he had a bad day. I would not dine in this restaurant again with this snobby rude waiter."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "It seems that the large tables overwhelm the staff as our table of two received late courses and declining service. Coffee and dessert took over 30 minutes to arrive and the check nearly as long."
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "First of all the Grove Park Inn is a beautiful place. We would go back just to walk around and look. The decor in Vue 1913 had a very clean look with wood trim and dark red accent walls. It didn't look very art deco to me but then again I am not an interior designer. The bottom line is that it looked very nice. The wait staff was excellent and was able to answer all of our questions about the menu. We started off with the baby baked brie. The bree was melted inside a ball with a thin layer of filo dough on the outside. Along with the chefs own appricot preserves on top of a crostini, the baked brie was a total slam dunk. My wife had the Lobster Agnoloti and I had the Steak Frites. It was all amazing and we will be going back again."

  • "We did the chef's tasting menu. Small bites of fabulous local foods."
    Dined on 5/31/2014
  • "I came here before when it was Horizons, and I thought the food was good then but the atmosphere was a bit stuffy and dated. I like the makeover they've done and think the menu is better at Vue 1913. I had the Lobster Agnolotti and it was excellent. I would skip desert here, though. It was fancy looking but lacked in flavor."

  • "We decided to eat on-site at The Grove Park Inn after a long drive. We chose Vue 1913 after looking over the menu on-line. We were so pleased with the friendliness of the staff, and the quality of the food. Escargot was fantastic, soup, mussels, steak. All treated with care, and subtle flavors. Nicely done."

  • "This dining experience was a standout. The tables were spaced far apart, the service was timely and friendly, and the scene outdoors was spectacular. I highly recommend this venue for anyone staying at the Grove Park Inn."

  • "Excellent experience! Special high marks for the Sommelier. Very extensive wine list. It was our first anniversary and we were delighted to receive a special plate embroidered with chocolate wishing us a happy anniversary for dessert. "

  • "We dined here for my Husband's birthday. Halfway through our meal, we were asked for our room key. When we asked why, we were told "to make sure you can afford the meal", when we spoke to the manager, he was rude and said it's normal practice - really? Halfway through my meal? Food was ok, the bearnaise was curdled - obviously under heat for to long. But was told "that's the way we make it here". I think the pub down the raos would've been a better choice. "

  • "Chose this restaurant for a special occasion birthday dinner, for two. The staff made sure we were seated in the most comfortable spot with a great view. Our server, Amy , was excellent. I had the lobster dish as recommended by Amy and it was excellent. The New York Strip was cooked perfectly. The Omni has done a great job with the hotel and we are anxious to return!"

  • "Dined with a party of 7. Couldn't have asked for better service or lovelier view of the mountains. Everyone enjoyed the food and wine. I especially loved the vichyssoise (surprisingly and deliciously served warm) and the trout entree. We celebrated our friend's 90th birthday with grand flair at Vue 1913."

  • "My husband and I went to the Vue 1913 in the Grove Park Inn for our anniversary dinner. The building itself is historical and amazing. The restaurant is one of their newer ones and has a stunning view of the blue ridge mountains, sunset and in the distance, the town of Asheville. The food was amazing. We love creative, eclectic dishes and they were that as well as properly cooked. The staff was attentive but not overly so. They knew it was our anniversary and brought us a lovely bit of white chocolate with a candle and wishes at the end of our meal. We will be going back again and might even try and stay in the hotel which looks amazing too."

  • "Food was prepared excellent, i was personally disappointed that there wasnt a better fresh fish selection as I dont eat alot of red meat. Sure they have scallops and trout as staples but I was looking for more. I believe the restaurant is now on par with the others at the Omni since changing from Horrizons. "

  • "Our visit at the Vue was great! Our waitress, Kimberly, was the best and very attentive, bubbly and gracious. The food was superb and the view was spectacular! Afterwards we walked around the Inn and enjoyed everything. Definitely want to go back. One thing: with my scallops (that were great) I would have preferred something other than beans as a side dish. I am not much of a bean person."
