Vara was excellent. Sushi was good but Taiwanese market food was outstanding. I had a signature cocktail which was the highlight of the week.Prices are reasonable, food excellent- they even have shabu shabu. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. Can't wait to return and work my way through the menu. I want to keep it to myself but they deserve to do well!

I really like this restaurant it was my first time there. I felt was very good and there was value. My only complaint is the organization. The table sitting next to me did not get their appetizers .She apologized and explained that the kitchen was not well organized. we had to ask for our check a couple times before getting it My friend that I was with told me that he had some issues the previous time. I am not complaining about this restaurant please Mrs. owner fix the situation. you have a great product and a very good looking restaurant. If the service is not there this will put you out of business. Once again I really enjoyed my meal. Please fix this.

Second try what a Shame it's not better. Soup buns so-so, pork belly rice terrible, hot pot not appetizing and service very unhelpful even with Mandarin speaker with us. Need to upgrade the food and service!!! Ambience nice, neighborhood convenience good, but now we'll pass and go to Chinatown for Taiwanese food, esp. hotpot. Sorry.

Almost a bewildering mixture of Taiwanese & Japanese dishes. No matter which dishes one chooses, each will truly excellent. Service is first class. Only criticism is that few outside the Asian-American community seem know of its existence. Yet, albeit its entrance slightly hidden, its location on North Clark opposite Perillo BMW is very good. Truly a hidden treasure in Gold Coast and one not to be missed!

Quality, choice and presentation of food is excellent. We would recommend the Seaside trio, the Seafood Miso soup, the Mongolian Beef, the Lemongrass roll the Vora dynamite and Caterpillar Maki. Service is very good, personable and professional. Menu mix of Taiwanese, Japanese and Chinese is broad and challenging. Chairs are not entirely comfortable. Menu, food and service will bring us back to Vora time and time again.

Love the $6 dim sum items! You can go for shabu shabu (Japanese style hot pot) as well, $19/person with individual pot. I love the pork slice buns, pork belly over rice, etc. The soy milk is Chinese style! Smoothies are great too. It's not very crowded, which makes it a great place for a casual get together with friends.

I had a coupon & gave it a try. My server, Eric gave me several receipts when I got my bill. He pointed to a line with a service charge and amount on it so I thought tip was included. I put an X through the tip line since it was included. Later the amount I SIGNED for was not what I was charged. I called Vora & a was blown off. I called my bank & got the overage refunded. Eric called me & said tip was not included in my bill. The first receipt said what I should tip & since I didn't, he added a tip despite what I SIGNED for. He became verbally abusive so I hung up on him. No one from Vora ever called to apologize. Management acknowledged via email that Eric DID admit to adding a tip regardless of what my SIGNED receipt said. Unacceptable.

Vora would seem like a hip foodie type of restaurant but it is quite the opposite. Although the design is hip and modern, the food and service reminds me of a welcoming, homey place. The food portions are huge and worth every penny... they are delicious as they are satisfying. I hope Vora is around for a very long time.

I was in this restaurant for 40 minutes until I couldn't take it anymore. First, I waited with my date for 20 minutes at the front counter before my name was taken or anyone even spoke with me, despite the reservation which they accepted through OpenTable. Then, when we were finally seated 20 minutes had gone by where our orders were not taken. I knew it was a bad sign when I looked around and NO ONE was eating any food. I decided to leave the restaurant rather than being rude to one of the servers (having served before) and demanding some sort of alcoholic beverage. Instead I decided to leave and go somewhere that wanted my money. This restaurant is poorly run. It was Valentine's day which is obviously busy but this was over the top awful.

We arrived on time for our 8pm reservation and were told that it would be at least 20 minutes for a table. We were warned by other diners to not wait at the bar as others have done that and lost their table. Once seated we waited for the waitress. No water was brought to the table. I had to go back and find some on my own. The patrons seated near us told us that we should make sure we have everything decided before the waitress came. The waiter took my order 5 times. Drinks came finally after being at the table around 1.5 hours later. My wife's food showed up 2 hrs later. I never got my food. Patrons were offering to share what food they got with others. Won't be back.

I cannot comment on the food as I left before I was served. I made reservations for 8:00 for 2 people, my date and myself. When we arrived the lobby was completely full and the hostess avoiding all eye contact with anyone. 20 people were waiting just to check in, some had reservations at 7:15 and had been waiting 45 minutes. I stood by the hostess desk for 30 minutes without a single employee talking to me or any of the other patrons. At 8:30, people with 7:15 reservations still hadn't been seated. The staff was unapologetic and unfriendly when asked any questions . I decided to take my business elsewhere, I will never return and I advise the same to whoever reads this review.

One hour wait for our reserved table, and then the waiter didn't greet us for another 20 minutes. I brought my daughters (ages 9 to 15) who were starving. Thank goodness they loved the food, we ordered the Valentine's special, started with a sushi roll and then the main course was the Japanese hot-pot...shabu-shabu style...I totally recommend for a fun foodie experience. Finished off with the chocolate fondue...good chocolate, but not enough fruit to satisfy my girls. The place was packed, but they just couldn't handle it. I would give it another chance.

What is the point of reservations if they don't keep them? 7:00 reservation on Valentines Day and waited 35 minutes along with 7 other couples. Then waited another 1.5 hours for our food. Two waiters for the entire restauraunt and the service was AWFUL! They didn't clear dirty plates and even brought my boyfriends sushi before mine, so I watched him eat. Very very disappointing for a Valentines Day dinner. They had one guy making sushi and no one asking if we needed drinks, etc. Ended up being a 3 hour dinner. Would NOT recommend to anyone. If they cant get it together for a special night like that, then they don't deserve the business. It should have been anticipated. It was almost comical, like we were being punked.

made reservations for v-day and was quite excited for the dinner for two & $20 champagne. server took order fine but after that was rarely seen. a lot of issues with getting their advertised hot pot started. three different bowls later, it was a success. food was great but not worth the time spent being ignored. flag someone down for waiter to get drinks. 25 min later, flag down another person for drinks. waiter shows up now & then, but never really delivers. he confirmed several people called off that is why lack of attention. as the restaurant manger, he should have been prepared form his promotion. oh and the opentable advertised $20 champagne was really $25 and after the waiter told me he would honor that, still got charge the $25.

Valentines Day. We had a reservation and were seating quickly, although people after us had to wait nearly an hour. The manager was too busy bartending and waiting tables! The staff was not organized at all. It took THREE HOURS for us to complete our meal due to very long waits between the three courses we ordered. This should have been an hour long dinner only. They attempted to over charge me for our champagne by $5 and also added $3 to our bill for no reason. I had to have both of these billing issues corrected by the manager, who again was bartending and waiting tables. The owners of the restaurant need to make some serious changes and get their staff in gear. I will not be returning, and I suggest that you do not go to Vora either.

I was looking for a good sushi restaurant for a dinner date. This popped next to Ra sushi and I'm glad to have picked Vora instead. The ambiance was perfect, we were greeted and seated immediately (I made reservations). Our waiter was patient and friendly, and checked in with us. I had the Smoky Bear, and my date had the Catapillar Maki. Both were delicious! Even the Sake that we ordered (Black River) was good too, and I'm personally not a sake fan. Booked this last minute for large group. Food was good but they seemed totally unprepared for us. I had booked same day and they called several hours before to confirm so it wasn't like we blindsided them. Took long time to even order, they only had one waiter who was awkwardly arguing with his kitchen staff to get them to stay for us.. And minor item but obnoxious nonetheless, all menus were crinkled and had stains on them. Overall, good food but a bad enough service experience that I would not return or recommend.

So, I knew about this restaurant after watching the Hungry Hound review and was taken to the authenticity of the asian cuisine. I thoroughly enjoyed the most excellent balance of all the sauces. Our waiter, Dave, was wonderful. Not shy about letting us know about the recent turnover in front staff and strengths in food, kitchens (more than one), attention to our drinks and turning over our appetizer plates, as well as recommendations for food. We loved the presentation of the pork sliders, and the others that we devoured. Loved, Loved, Loved! I am going to return for another evening out, this time with my family of four. Dave was great!
