A word from VOLT
VOLT offers guests a menu of modern American cuisine. “The focus of our cuisine is based on classic flavor combinations, creating sophisticated dishes that emphasize purity and seasonal flavors that are based on fundamental and innovative cooking techniques.” said Voltaggio. VOLT’s relationship with local artisan farmers ensures availability of products to fulfill the philosophy behind the menu, in a refined, historic venue where classic meets modern. By design, the restaurant follows along the original footprint of the mansions first floor parlors. Both the 38 seat main dining room and the bar/lounge open off the foyer. The original mosaic tile in the foyer was the inspiration behind the warm monochromatic color pallet that adorns the finishes in VOLT. Private dining can be hosted in the conservatory offering views of the expansive courtyard. The 700 square foot kitchen afforded space to include up to 20 guests.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We chose to dine here for our 7 year wedding anniversary. Our overall experience was excellent and the food was AMAZING! We can definitely see ourselves returning to this wonderful place."

  • "My sister, mother and I went for our July birthdays. When I looked online at the menu, I was confused...but they explain it well at the restaurant when you arrive. The food was interesting and beautifully plated. The only items we got that we didn't like: I tried the Waygu beef short ribs and I had never had that and maybe it was just too fatty and not to my liking, and my sister got the rhubarb dessert, it was NOT good. Best items we had: the LOBSTER, oh my goodness! Also loved the chicken, and the green onion macaroon (which was a compliment of the chef item) was very good. Overall it was a unique, wonderful experience that I think is a once in a lifetime kind of thing because of the price."

  • "Cannot say enough good things about VOLT. One of the best meals I've had in the area - the food was excellent and the service was impeccable. It was well worth the drive out to Frederick!"

  • "Nice splurge for a special occasion - tasting menu does take a good amount of time so plan for it. Also, tasting menu is pricing but reasonable for once and awhile special occasion. Really great, friendly service, VERY CLEAN ENVIRONMENT!"

  • "We have been to Volt several times, and it is always a memorable experience. We chose the tasting menu--six courses of perfection. Fluke sashimi, oysters, halibut, squid-ink pasta, beef short rib and chocolate dessert. Each course was beautifully presented and tasted excellent. Service, as always, was spot on. The sommelier, TJ, was very knowledgeable and helped us select the perfect bottle of Pinot Noir to accompany the menu. We will definitely return."

  • "Food was excellent. Service was good and friendly overall, but I'll give it a couple of dings for having a dirty blind and a dirty menu."

  • "Interesting, surprising flavors. Each dish was a painting with a palette of flavors."

  • "On a vacation trip to D.C. from Minneapolis, we made the hour drive to Volt. Yes, the 'Top Chef' connection drew us. We indulged ourselves with a seating at the Chef's Table, Table 21, and experienced a once-in-a-lifetime 21-course tasting menu with a 7-pour wine flight. Everything was exquisitely presented and delicious. Some courses - like the cucumber/buttermilk appetizer and the lobster - I will never forget. The service was truly outstanding (hopefully you'll be lucky enough to get Alex). What a night!"

  • "Wonderful food, comfortable, and an overall great experience. Friendly staff, and we got a chance to meet the chef. How cool is that? :) Excellent venue for our 12th anniversary!"

  • "very diffrent tastes for your palate. extemely amazing service! would go there again... just need to save up some money. we got 4 dishes each from the a la carte and it already cost almost $80/person. wasn't a huge fan on any of the deserts..perferred the free icrecream ball we got for my husband's bday."

  • "Probably my tenth time at Volt. I was disappointed. Service a little less special and two of my three courses very disappointing. Too bad!!"
    Dined on 6/29/2014
  • "We had heard wonderful things about Volt. Dinner, would probably be well worth the price, but seemed a tad out of my reach right now. That's when I thought Brunch at Volt would be a great experience with less of an impact on the pocketbook. I was right. It was a great way to introduce ourselves to Volt for a fraction of the dinner price. We were all (four of us dining) very pleased. Not a complaint here. My only complaint was not with the restaurant itself, but some of the other customers that came in after us. I never understood why someone would come to a fine dining establishment with a well respected and established chef making the menu calls and insist on changing the dishes that he has prepared. Crazy! Enjoy as its designed!"

  • "Taking diners beyond mainstream fare is always laudable and Volt is certainly a worthwile notch above. But the kitchen may in some instances be falling into the trap of novelty-for-the-sake-of-novelty and complexity-for-the-sake-of-complexity without a commensurate pay-off in "oh wow" moments."

  • "I was so looking forward to this restaurant as a Top Chef fan. The food was pretty but not very good. The menu lists all kinds of ingredients but it doesn't tell us what we are eating. We had to ask our waitress (who at the age of 18) didn't seem very sure herself of what we were eating. Volt is too busy making the plate look pretty instead of delicious. The desserts were probably the most disappointing. My husband had the apple dessert and the sweet cream was Inedible. I had the rhubarb and it was anything but a dessert. I bit into a bitter piece of rhubarb and I didn't even want to try the rest. Very disappointing."

  • "Remarkable six-course tasting menu adventure. Wonderful dishes, entertaining presentation and remarkable service. Such a wonderful experience."

  • "It was my third visit to Volt. This one was not quite as memorable as the two previous engagements. Although the staff was rather attentive and proper, the atmosphere serene, and the food elegant, but very small portions. I understand the concept of small portions, but size the plate in proportion to what you are serving. The service was timely between courses ( 4 in all) and the richness of the food left us feeling satisfied. I would only recommend this establishment to people who understand the "small portion" concept of elegant cuisine. I can only give this visit a "good" rating and may not visit there again for a while."

  • "We selected the two tasting menus and shared our tasty morsels! This was a great way to get to know Volt's offerings. Servers were very attentive but need to slow down when describing the ingredients of the dishes esp since the combinations are unique and the menus have been removed. Knowing fully what I was eating would have raised my dining experience."

  • " Service was wonderful and food was very tasty. Outdoor patio very very cozy and nice wine list."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "We had the tasting menu with the paired wines and it was delicious. The pairings were spot on and they adjusted for food restrictions w/o blinking. The service is lovely though sometimes it comes off as a bit too rehearsed. We were tucked in a corner which was fine but we would have preferred to be more in the middle of the action which we should have stated. Next time we'll be sure to ask for the Chef's dining room or the patio and ultimately would love to try Table 21. It was our anniversary and they brought out a special dessert, which was very kind and unexpected. Pricey, yes, but worth it for a great evening."

  • "The meal was good not great, the service was excellent( the staff paid great attention to my wife's peanut allergy). They were also gracious about us celebrating my birthday."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Food was excellent. Unfortunately, I was restricted in what I could order because of the policies of the restaurant. I was looking forward to the tasting menu. However, the restaurant does not like preparing the tasting menu for less than everyone at the table. Unfortunately, members of my party do not eat seafood and therefore would not try the tasting menu. So, if you go you better strategize your dinner plans before dining because the restaurant will put restrictions on what you can get. The food I and my guests had was excellent with the exception of the lobster which was rubbery and difficult to cut. The before and after dinner treats were exceptional. Just remember, have a plan when going to Volt."

  • "My gf and I had a 9pm reservation at Volt during Frederick's arts festival; so, as the weather had cooled some and it was a gorgeous night, we opted to be seated in their garden. The menu has two halves, with basic descriptions of dishes on the left side, as opposed to very detailed descriptions for the dishes on the right side's tasting menu, so that did seem to be a subtle cue to go with one of the two tasting menus, either meat or vegetable. Everyone at the table has to order from the same side of the menu, which was fine, and both of us opted for the meat tasting menu. I thought that there was one standout (clams & mussels) with everything else being very good. The service was excellent and the waiter provided an excellent wine rec."

  • "The food was interesting and a few plates were quite delicious. Also, it the coffee cake gift at the end of the meal was a very nice touch. However, the service was very overbearing. I prefer service that is seamless and disappears in the background. Here, the servers tried to make conversation (ie. what is your favourite dish so far?) and I just felt like I was put on the spot. Also, you see the servers waiting by the entry way while they are receiving instructions or waiting to execute something. I found that very awkward as it felt like they were on edge to do their job and it put me on edge as well. Also, the washroom was dirty and the wastepaper bin was overflowing. I heard from my friend that the men's washroom was the same."

  • "Volt maintains the title of "destination restaurant" as we drove from Saratoga Springs, NY, to enjoy a delicious dinner. It did not disappoint!"
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "I'm always amazed at the new things that come together to make a wonderful sensation in your mouth. Everything was original and delicious. My husband is a greasy diner kind of guy so it wasn't his cup of tea but the other 3 of us LOVED it. Takes the right kind of person to be able to appreciate great food."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "We had an early afternoon brunch. I ordered the 3 course while my partner ordered the 5 course. They brought my 3 courses to coincide with his 1,4 and 5. I would have much preferred having my main dish with his #3, instead of #4. So I think that this could be organized better. Our lunch also took exactly 2 hours, (no wine pairing) which felt a little long, especially since my two dishes did not come until the last 30 minutes of our time there. The food was good overall and the service was friendly. We had to try it, but probably will not return."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "It was very nice, the food was incredible and the service was excellent. The wine list is extensive, but had very few bottles under eighty dollars. The portions are quite small, you will need to order 3-4 courses at least. I would highly recommend Volt for special occasions. Overall it was a great experience."

  • "VOLT is touted as one of the country's best dining experiences, and it surely is that. It rivals such Michelin rated 2 and 3 star spots including Piazza Duomo in Alba, Italy, and Daniel in New York. Cocktails at the bar were hand crafted and superb -- great names and allusions to famous films! (The Johnny Utah). The staff was warm and friendly from the get-go, too. The only critique I have of the entire experience was the lack of elbow room at table 21. It was incredibly difficult to read and select wines from the wine list, and our first 4 "snack" courses were rushed. The best dishes we tasted at table 21 were the nitro foie ball, the lamb, the waygu, the garlic dish, the chowder, and our beets with shaved cured egg. WOW."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "Just wasn't a good experience. Wait staff was awkward, food was just mediocre, and wallet cried. I think if they were a little bit cheaper and portions were more in tune with a meal and not a snacking I would have been more impressed."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "VOLT still features inventive recipes and the staff is still attentive, if not quite as experienced as in past visits. We went for brunch, which for us typically means a 3 course selection for $35 plus drinks. But on this visit, the portion size for the halibut main course was exceptionally small and the omelette did not include any lobster or crab as it typically does. Lobster was available as an addition to the eggs along with some caviar (for a $20 upcharge !). Overall, we felt like the restaurant was trying to economize a bit to hold a price, and that the value wasn't quite there for us this time."

  • "My husband and I went to Volt on Father's Day for Sunday Brunch. We had a great experience from start to finish. The service was excellent, the setting exceptional, and the food delicious--with so many wonderful choices. We had an exceptional experience and we will return!!! We are never disappointed at Volt."

  • "Enjoyed the food but the courses were "uneven". First Course: The "Beets pumpernickel.." were very good; The "Pork Belly..." was not so good - pasta was not very warm and the pork was very dry. Second Course: the "Pork Belly carolina gold rice was very good; the chicken dish that my wife ordered was very small relative to the Pork Belly dish and it too was very dry. The party next to our table was very loud, maybe due to too much alcohol - the wait staff did nothing to quiet the party."

  • "Service is still outstanding. Great ambience Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Food was pretty good. Desserts were terrible. Not nearly as good as previous visits. Disappointing that they've adopted the small plate tiny portion trend. Most likely be our last visit."

  • "Went to Table 21 and it was fantastic. The service was phenomenal and the food was delicious. I would go back here over Mini Bar any day. The server accommodated my wife's dietary restrictions (she's pregnant) and explained every course/wine perfectly. She was marvelous."

  • "Went here for a birthday, and brunch at Volt made it truly memorable. Food was delicious, perfectly proportioned and beautifully presented. Staff was very knowledgeable, professional and attentive without hovering. What a treat!"

  • "I took my Father there for Father's Day. It was something I knew he would not do for himself. I was lucky enough to get Table 21 and explained to my Father, Step-Mother and Husband that trying the wine pairings with the food would be a true experience. It gave them an opportunity to try food and wines that they never would have. The staff was very pleasant and the food timely. I can't believe we were there for almost 3 hours! I did some research before going so I was not completely shocked when I received the bill. My Father, being nosey had to ask what I spent.....he 'took gas' and thanked me/us for the wonderful evening."

  • "I've been twice to this restaurant, the first time was fanstastic, one of the few places that I found was worth the money. We went back for my son's birthday, and the food was not good. Everything was over-salted, and at times hard to swallow. One in our party left most of her food on the plate everytime, and not once was she asked if anything was wrong with the food. This time the food was not worth our very expensive bill. Very disappointed, will probably not return."
