This restaurant is slightly overrated. While the food is good I felt the prices were high for what you received. Our server somewhat "rushed" our meal and when dining in a top quality restaurant I expect the server to take clues from their customers and not push. Our server was pleasant but somewhat spotty. Normally this would be the type of restaurant I would go to for a special occasion or date night. Other than the people I was with, nothing was truly "special".

This just got even better, with a new menu. Lots of little plates and plates for sharing, along with the traditional. We enjoyed a Wagyu appetizer and grilled Caesar salad. Mains were salmon and chicken breasts. Exquisite!

We were celebrating a special occasion and found this to be a very enjoyable experience. The restaurant was cozy and comfortable. The food was nothing shy of fantastic. We shared the caesar salad which was unique and amazing. Then we moved onto sharing mushroom soup that had tiny pieces of chocolate in it which was different but yummy. Next we shared the steak which I will be craving now going forward. We also shared the ravioli. The food, service and atmosphere was perfect.

This was a wonderful dining experience. The server said she was new but you never would have know it by the great service we had. The food was all just wonderful. I went because I had a Groupon and most likely if I hadn't I probably would have never tried it. This is what they are for. It got me to try something different and fall in love with it so I will return time and time again. Loved everything about it.

We were met at the door and ushered to our table immediately after giving our reservation name. The atmosphere was subdued, lightning just dim enough for a romantic setting with enough light to read the menu. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. I went with the peppersteak which was cooked to my liking and the roasted carrots/potatoes had amazing flavor. My date enjoyed his duck breast and also the mustard greens which he had never tried before. We both would recommend this dining spot, and we both want to return to try other menu items.

V Mertz has been one of Omaha's best restaurants for many years. The setting, food and service is superb. Our waiter, David is a native of France and is one of the few Sommelier's in Omaha. His knowledge of wines and the menu items adds to the experience.

Three things I enjoy about V. Mertz. 1. Artfully composed food with impeccable service. 2. Servers who can present each dish with a well crafted and entertaining food story. 3. A creative amuse bouche that sets V Mertz apart from the other nice restaurants. On this visit, there was no amuse bouche. My countenance fell and my mouth was not amused. Although the meal was good, I was a bit disappointed.

Again and again V. Mertz meets and exceeds my expectations every time we come to Omaha. Service is impeccable, food is outstanding! Wine list (if you know and appreciate great wines) is pure poetry. If you are concerned about finding a great, exquisite dining experience thinking that Omaha doesn't offer such establishment, don't waste your time, make your reservation at V.Mertz to guarantee a table. If you appreciate fine-dining, you won't be disappointed, rather expect to be pleasantly surprised! Great restaurant for business or pleasure.

This is our fourth visit in less than a year, and this time we took friends who used to regularly go to V. Mertz but became disenchanted with it and haven't been in several years. As always, the service is impeccable. David, who is frequently our server, is smart and knowledgeable about both the food and the wine. He remembered the exact wine we had the last time we were there! From the housemade butternut squash ravioli topped with shrimp, to the classic pepper steak, every meal at V. Mertz is delicious and memorable! Omaha is a wonderful restaurant town, and V. Mertz is definitely at the top of the list. Classy, elegant, with exquisitely prepared food and an outstanding wine list!

We enjoyed everything about our evening dinner/drinks at V Mertz. We tried a couple of their special cocktails - very tasty. Then shared an appetizer (beef tartare), two first plates (grilled caesar salad and a mushroom soup), two mains (peppercorn steak and salmon) and shared a desert. All the flavors, texture, etc were perfect - THANKS and we will be back!

We've eaten at Mertz a few times, generally special occasions. It is not inexpensive, but a truly outstanding dining experience costs a little more - we always feel we have gotten value for our dollar. The food is wonderful, the ambiance is great, the wine list is actually scary (good) - but the server has always been the factor that put the experience into the truly "Special" category. Give them a try for your next special occasion - I think you'll be glad you did.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience! The menu was inventive and fresh, while retaining some of their traditional offerings like the peppersteak. We no longer live in Omaha and hadn't dined at Mertz for about 15 years. We're so glad we did. We enjoyed several of the craft cocktails and were very impressed. The bartender Alex was very attentive and introduced himself. He gave us a digestif that he made for a festival the previous week. We enjoyed it so much, and he even provided the recipe. Our server Jenn provided the perfect blend of attention and friendliness while allowing us space to enjoy our meal. She made great suggestions based on our comments and answered all of our questions. Our food was delicious as well!

V.Mertz is an unheralded gem of a restaurant. Chef Seymour has brought both insightful and imaginative concepts to his menu with the underpinning of outstanding technique. 4 certified sommeliers are on staff and the wine list is excellent. We had an awesome dinner, as usual, at V Mertz. I don't know our servers name (which is the way we like it), but he was fabulous. Prompt but unobtrusive. We didn't spend a fortune on a bottle of wine, but the sommelier decanted it for us because it was a young vintage. Much appreciate. We had the Korean tacos as an appetizer. We thought it was ok, but wouldn't order again. I had the farm chicken with vegetable that were done perfectly. Very good. My husband had the steak bavette and loved the char on the outside. All in all, a wonderful evening.

I would call my husband and I foodies. We have been to most of the nice restaurants in Omaha. The service and atmosphere at V. Mertz is very nice but the food was not very tasteful and left a lot to be desired. For $100, i expect a pretty delicious meal. I could have made something more tasty at home myself. I had the salmon with apples, bok choy and rice porridge. The salmon and rice porridge was very tasteless. It is sad when the apples were the most flavorful part. My husband got the wagyu beef and the mustard sauce that was on the potatoes and beans overpowered the flavors of everything on the plate and was just ok. The absolute highlight of the meal was the peach soup at the begiining of the meal. Delicious.

I love going here, there isn't a better place in Omaha to take a date for a special occasion or just a fantastic meal. The wine list is top notch, the food is good, creative, and prepared and presented beautifully. What truly sets V. Mertz apart is the service, I have never had a bad service experience, the staff is on point with knowledge and skill. If I had to give it any negative it would be the tables & chairs aren't that comfortable, but that's really being picky. Be prepared to pay for this level of excellence, though it worth it.

We eat out often in Chicago and visited Omaha. V.Mertz is stunning. Even better than many of the top restaurants in Chicago. One of my best culinary experiences ever. Creative menu using the freshest ingredients, serving incredibly delicious and innovative food. Our server brought out the chef to speak with us. He is so intelligent, (again) creative, approachable. A genius. For dessert, which I had not ordered although my husband had, he brought out a tasting menu test dessert for me.. It was amazing. The atmosphere is romantic and candlelit, great for special occasions. A few of the people appeared to be regulars. If I lived there, I would be a regular too. Top-notch wine list. I never write review, but V.Mertz I hugely recommend!

Overpriced food, cramped seating, outdated menu, chef unable to accommodate a simple dietary request, even the silverware was substandard. Get with it V Mertz: even if the food would have been satisfactory, which it was not, your business can't survive with decades old accouterments. And the exposed wiring of your overhead lighting is not cool, it is just plain dangerous!

My fiance and I were looking for a new restaurant in the Old Market and bought a Groupon for V. Mertz. This restaurant transformed me to a french wine cellar right off the bat. Our server, David, was knowledgeable and friendly. He offered wonderful suggestions and informed us that the menu changes often to reflect seasonal foods. Matthew the manager stopped over several times to see how our experience was and helped us with future reservations. Finally when you go you must end your meal with their candy bar crunch chocolate masterpiece (and a Hennessy). We will be back!

There were 3 in our party and we had a variety of food, all very good. Started off with specialty cocktails. One wasn't to our liking so they replaced it with a different drink. One of our party had the price fix menu with wine pairing. The appetizers, duck, wagyu beef and supporting cast of food along with the desert made an enjoyable meal for everyone. The roasted ceasar salad was a different approach. Our waitress was exceptional in her service.
