A word from Vivolo
Vivolo, the family name, long associated with fine dining and Italian cuisine, is located at 140 east 74th street, New York. Vivolo, established in 1977 by owner Angelo Vivolo, is nestled in a charming 1875 townhouse occupying two floors.

You enter into a rich English redwood paneled dining room and antique oak bar with a working fireplace. Ceilings beamed with dark wood create an overall intimate, friendly and romantic atmosphere. A "café" alcove offers several secluded tables or the perfect setting for dinners for 10.

The second floor of Vivolo has the look of a turn-of-the-century parlor with a gold leaf trimmed ceiling and working fireplace. The parlor floor is also a favorite for private parties.

We reserved a table to celebrate a 60th birthday. Everything was wonderful: the service, the food, the table. The three of us ordered off of the prix fixe menu. The trout was wonderful, as was the pork chop, and the grouper. A wonderful time was had by all. A friend commented on the fabulous Bolognese sauce. It was really delicious.

After spending the day at the Met , my brother and I did what anyone else would do - we googled/yelped the best restaurants in the area. Go figure, reservations on the UES are hard to find on a Saturday evening before 10:00pm. So after having a drink at Bar Boulud and contemplating eating there , we perused the menu and were underwhelmed. Along came Vivolo. Everything from the moment we walked in and were greeted by the owner and had out coats checked to the cute table upstairs that we dined at. Its a homey feel. The service and food both amazing and delicious. We enjoyed a warm octopus salad, and pasta. Then the specials of the day with salmon and cornish hen with polenta. Delicious. Chocolate cake and lemon cake for desert . Very happy rolling out of here.

the salmon was not well done as requested..the veal scallopini was so tough I could not cut it --it was so salty I sent it back and ordered a half order of spaghetti with meat sauce and Prago would have been better--when I got the bill they had charged me for the veal I could not eat--they fixed the bill.

Needed a good neighborhood restaurant (UES) that didn't require taking a second mortgage to pay for dinner. Decided that Vivolo would be a good choice for a business dinner. Our food was excellent, all three of us totally enjoyed our meal, service very attentive and noise level moderate enough to be able to engage in conversation without yelling or straining. I will definitely go back. Prices for the quality of food and service were very reasonable, especially given the neighborhood. Highly recommend.

Generally we go during weekdays when it's quiet, but this was a birthday so we reserved for a Friday. I asked for upstairs or a window. In front. Got neither. First seated next to bathroom hall. Finally asked to move and got an ok dinner with no apologies or complimentary drink. I'll go back, but not as often. I'll also look for a more accommodating place.

Good not great. Authentic and classic Italian dishes with a nice wine list. We were seated in a porch booth away from the rest of the dining room, odd. I wanted pasta and was pushed into ordering fish with a side of pasta. My appetizer was 4 delicious pork meatballs. But then my recommended pasta side($14.50 extra) also had 3 pork meatballs and a little bit of pasta. Bad recommendation, no follow up after the entrees were delivered for feedback. The Branzino was nothing to write home about and was too "wet" for my taste. Soggy julienne veggies hidden underneath the fish. It was supposed have been substituted. Oh well, so I didn’t like my meal. My experience doesn’t warrant a bad review as my husband loved his food. Maybe next time.

Hi to all, I had recently met a lady on March. Com. We made a reservation at this restaurant for 7:45 pm. I arrived early and wasn't sure if I should wait outside or inside for my date to arrive. I asked the kind maitre 'd where I should wait. We started to talk and I shared a photo of my date who would be arriving soon. He remarked she was pretty. Well when she arrived he escorted her to my side and then she promptly thanked me for the compliments the Maitre'd said to her. The entire staff was very kind to us. So much that we were the last ones to leave our first meeting place. Loved the place.....

I have been to Vivolo several times for lunch and the food and service were always excellent. Waiter seemed stressed and there was a gap of about 45 minutes for main course and when we asked what was the delay, we were told "we thought you were busy chatting" and it still took another 10 minutes to get our main course. Usually the waiter checks several times to ensure service is good, but not this time.
