A word from Vivo Ristorante
vivo is where Italian comes alive. We relish the enthusiasm and joy with which the traditional Italian meal is prepared and delivered, and seek to recreate that experience for every guest. Our open kitchen showcases our chefs preparing fresh and local ingredients.

When you join us for dinner, expect it to be a relaxing evening lasting a couple hours over several piatti (courses). Your table comes alive when we present a variety of large offerings on platters or bowls within easy reach of all.

A classic Italian pranzo (dinner) usually beings with a variety of antipasti (hot and cold appetizers), followed by one or two primi (usually a hot pasta, risotto, gnocchi or zuppa). Next your table will share a secondi (entrees) served on a platter combined with your choice of contorni (vegetable side dishes). Italians often complete their meal with un dolce, un caffe, or un digestivo (dessert, espresso, liqueur or grappa).

Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening at VIVO !! We chose this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary, as we knew how special the evening would be, there. Everything was perfect (except they didn't have a White Zinfandel wine) and we had a table right next to the romantic fireplace setting. We were delighted with each course of our meal, and couldn't have asked for better service. The only negative element for us was that it was quite loud in the restaurant. Each table seemed to be talking over another. We felt that perhaps some sound-dampening curtains hung in strategic areas might curtail the need to compete for sound levels. We will certainly return to VIVO for another special dinner outing."

  • "The food at Vivo is beyond good! We shared the caesar salad and Fettuccine and my husband got an order of meatballs. All was delicious (I am told if I want to start eating meat again I should start with the meatballs :) )"

  • "Great little restaurant, the food was excellent and for what you pay you get more than enough even maybe a little too much for 2 people. Great staff, very professional and our server was wonderful and really added to our experience. I really enjoyed the family style service but I think next time go back we will bring a few extra people. All in all great restaurant and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes italian cuisine."

  • "heard about this fantastic Italian restaurant at the beginning of the year and when we went to try it meet the high expectative that we had about it. The staff was awesome and explained us how the menu worked and its very different since the portions are all for being shared, they are big and if you are two I recommend you to ask for just salad, app and the main dish since we ordered salad, antipasto and main and oh my we couldn’t finish it, we didn’t have room for dessert and they looked awesome. The wine list is impressive and the ambiance is very nice too. VIVO restaurant is such a good italian restaurant in the middle of a new residential area and even better if you live close by"

  • "Wonderful food served family style from the open kitchen. We appreciated the seemingly effortless attention to detail. A delicious blend of high quality fresh locally sourced and imported food. Helpful in supporting changes to dishes so we could manage gluten and dairy sensitivities at our table. We look forward to our next visit."

  • "Fantastic food. Fabulous service. Great wine selection. I loved that the breads and pastas were made fresh in house. You must try the homemade cookies.... amazing! We will definitely be back again."

  • "Pasta is ok. Not the best I had in the past Very noise Food doesn't come in small portion, a tiramisu is a huge fishbowl that costs $16, is two only can eat 1/4 and not sure what to do with the rest Waiter provides good service"

  • "We had a great experience. We had a wonderful meal, amazing service and the food came out so fast. A nice touch from a ladies perspective was good toilet paper in the ladies washroom :)"

  • "I did not expect the decor in this restaurant, very plush, outstanding wine selection, warm and comfortable seating arrangement. The Caesar salad was uniquely presented and very tasty. We loved the beet side dish, who knew there were that may types of beets!. The lamb was delicious although we should have asked for it to be cooked a little longer - some of it was a tad "raw" for our palates. The waiter was attentive, knowledgeable and correctly gauged our appetites and recommended smaller portions when he noted our indecision. Looking forward to our next visit!"

  • "I have gone to Vivo a number of times, however the service last time was horrible. Supper took way too long 2.5 + hours and our entree came out after the balance of the table was finished eating. Also, another one in our party did not receive their dessert till everyone got up to leave. Food quality was very good, but the duration for supper and spacing between courses was too long. If you want a prompt meal skip this place. The other 6 people in our party have gone to vivo before and all felt the service was painfully slow as well. Hopefully this was just an anomaly."

  • "What a fantastic evening. The cesear salad was amazing, the pasta was delicious and the tiramisu was divine. Reservations were seemless with Open Table. We thought we would make it our once a year location but it will just have to be more often."

  • "The decor- modern, but comfortable. As an appetizer, we enjoyed the charcuterie platter- cured meats, cheese, and pickles, with artisan bread. Most of it was sourced locally (a point of pride for the restaurant- the bulk of what they serve is locally grown/produced). We then had a smoked salmon risotto which was fantastic- a huge hit. Our secondi was the rack of lamb, which was done exactly to our specifications. The wine (from a comprehensive selection) complimented the meal very well. Our server was most welcoming- friendly, cheerful, and helpful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys fine dining. The family-style servings mean that everyone can take what they want, so nobody leaves hungry or too stuffed!"

  • "probably my 5th or 6th time at Vivo, my fav spot in Edmonton. while we were eating 6 of the Edmonton Oilers came in for dinner and sat a couple tables away. I'm not from Edmonton and don't follow hockey so i didnt know who they were but apparently it was all of their top players. Hall, Eberle, Yakupov etc. nice to know some of the local starts dine at Vivo"

  • "A special occasion at VIVO to use $200 in gift cards. Menu is unique, reflects fine dining with high quality ingredients; that quality brings higher price. This "ristorante" caters to special occasions, fine gourmet and extravagant tastes, and dining at approx. $80 to $100 per person, with one drink each. Service and Plating of the food is exceptional. VIVO supports local growers of produce and meat; this quality is reflected in the higher cost. The grilling of all veggies, onion jam, capers, and unique condiments greatly enhance all of the dishes. Dining with a FLARE, with seating available for those who wish to watch the Chefs prepare the dishes."

  • "Food at Vivo was very good, tasty. The family style approach was super even though we were only two people. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable and the chef even served our entree....I'd recommend it and I'm sure we'll be back. Only disappointment was the tiramisu, not very good. Everything else was great."

  • "The grilled ceaser salad was excellent, smoked salmon risotto was good and service was amazing. Will be back to try other menu items."

  • "We found the service at this restaurant to be very good, but that's all that was very good. The food was just "okay", and the prices were very high. We had 2 adults and 3 teenagers in our party and the price was $400 - OUCH!! For that price, I would expect much more ambiance and much better food. We will NOT return to this restaurant."
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "The Ceasar Salad was quite unique and amazingly. The flavour was rich and full. Was not impressed with the pasta dish. The main course was outstanding. The desert was great but too big"

  • "If you go to this restaurant, you need to remember that the food is served in large quantities family style. It's better with six to eight people. Two or four means you have to make really good selections from the menu. Expensive, but well worth the money. Highly recommended."

  • "Very rich but very good. Special occasion kind of place."

  • "We've enjoyed meals at Vivo on a few different occasions: quiet dinner for 2, small family birthday get together, multi-birthday celebration in the 'party room'. The food is superb, the staff make you feel truly valued and special, it's an excellent experience from start to finish. The restaurant is deceiving from the outside: seems small and ultra-casual & is a worldly eatery in the heart of a family community. It's easy to get to off the Henday and while costlier than your average 'bistro/bar' type place, you get what you pay for! Quality like this needs to be experienced & how lucky are we to have such an excellent restaurant that you don't have to drive downtown to get to! The prepare everything fresh and use local foods/suppliers."

  • "We enjoyed our evening at VIVO. Very attentive service. Food was very good. On the pricey side, but perfect for a special occasion. The noise level could have been less and would have allowed for more conversation. The restaurant is very open, and therefore quite loud."

  • "Very authentic Italian style restaurant with good food and a unique experience with a family style type of service. The caesar salad is a unique and wonderful taste experience. Each course was well seasoned and presented. We did not find it an exceptional experience but it was a good experience. We felt that the cost did not match the expectation and actual experience. The restaurant was full all evening which is a good sign for a restaurant to be busy but it also made it very loud and we had to speak loudly to compete with the noise. We asked for a quiet table but I don't think any exist as it is a very open format. We recommend this restaurant as it was a good experience and we enjoyed our evening."

  • "This restaurant is a must for a special occasion. It is unique in its concept about sharing all of the plates. It makes dining out more than just about eating. The food is delicious and the presentation is incredible. It's not an inexpensive dining experience, but well worth the price!"

  • "What an awesome restaurant! Family style dining, modern open atmosphere, extremely friendly, professional, and accommodating staff, locally sourced ingredients, and amazing food. Dinner for 2 and drinks cost us about $200 but totally worth it. Would be an awesome place to go with a group of people."

  • "Best service I've ever had! Staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. Food was great, but a little too salty. The lamb was too gamey for my liking. Would definitely recommend all the salads, the chicken, and tiramisu. Will be coming here again because of the staff."

  • "Vivo is a restaurant that we go to for special occasions or a special night out. We always have great service and have found many favorites on the menu. We tried something new last time that did not grab us (our fault not theirs) and they replaced it no questions asked with something else right away. Have never had a bad experience there."
