Diner Reviews
  • "I took my boyfriend here after cocktails at the Aviary and the food, service, and atmosphere were all amazing! We loved everything we ordered at Vivo, especially the phenomenal gnocchi. We have been talking about it all weekend and have already told our families and friends about Vivo. We cannot wait to go back!"

  • "The food was all very good-not great-but very good. The atmosphere and service were excellent. I would go back for sure but next time I do, I'll order a more traditional entree. Over all, I recommend you try Vivo."

  • "I haven't been to Vivo in over a year, my husband and I went last night & the place was as good as ever! Lively & energetic.. The service was exceptional. They have a new & notable wine list. I ordered the risotto which was heavenly & my husband had the ribeye with horseradish mashed potatoes. Overall, the scene, service & food were all excellent!"

  • "I was looking for a restaurant open late night and found Vivo. The service was fantastic and the food was amazing. They had a special ravioli filled with prosciutto in a pecorino cream sauce that was the most delicious thing I have had in awhile. All the pasta is homemade and wonderful. My friend enjoyed her pasta too, but my other friend (a vegetarian) didn't fair as well. She got the eggplant Parmesan and said it tasted like it was microwaved. My experience however was spectacular, and I will be back!"

  • "We went to Vivo for dinner before the Blackhawks game. Service was excellent. The food was great. We had plenty of time to still make it to the game. Ambience was romantic. We will definitely be back."

  • "This is my 3rd time at Vivo, and it has been good every time. I absolutely recommend this place. There was a group of 4 of us and we all liked it. We actually even showed up an hour early for our reservation, my mistake, and they were able to accommodate us in about 20 minutes. In short, a good place for a date, a good place for groups, a good place to bring your parents, just really versatile."

  • "I love to go to Vivo when there is no event at the United Center. Food and services is always great, but with a slower pace you can actually have a conversation. The bartender makes great drinks, knows her stuff and is very pleasant...have a drink before sitting at your table."

  • "The beet salad, black pasta seafood marinara, steak and veal piccata were all excellent. The service and atmosphere made for a lively evening!"

  • "My wife and I got married here back in 2011. The ambiance is the same, as is the service (which are incredible compliments). However, we couldn't help but feel like the food had become average at best. I ordered the duck, which was actually pretty good, but the dessert, soup, appetizer-it was all either too bland or too salty. Maybe it was just because it was a "set' Valentines menu. But compared to our wedding, or the other half dozen times we have been there, eh... not too good by comparison."

  • "Made reservations, no wait, great service, good wine, delicious food, but a little tight with seating."

  • "It was absolutely the worse food I have ever had in Chicago. The wine pairings were bad - cheap wine and the tomato soup aw watery and no flavor. The entree was comparable to what my college form served."

  • "This was not the first time we have been to Vivo, but it was the first time we sat upstairs. Overall, it was a great dinner. Food was awesome from start to finish. Was torn between a few things but ended up splitting a 1/2 portion of the gnocchi prior to main course. Was a perfect amount. Drinks were great. Server did a nice job and was personable even though he had the entire upstairs section. Quiet, cozy and romantic spot. Prices are very reasonable."

  • "Vivo has always been one of my favorites, but I was disappointed on this visit to find that they changed their menu. Only 3 pasta choices on the unch menu + a special pasta of the day...but the pasta I was looking forward to having was no on the menu and they said the grill wasn't on so they couldn't make it. The dish I had was fine...but again, just left feeling disappointed."

  • "On Randolph there are plenty of restaurants so it is easy to get lost in the shuffle. Vivo was surprisingly good. Went for restaurant week but decided to just order off the menu. The spinach and cheese ravioli was my favorite followed by the Salmon."

  • "I brought a group of five of us from work to Vivo for dinner in late January 2014; it was fantastic. Everyone loved their food and the appetizers. The service was excellent--attentive without being overbearing--and we got some good wine recommendations. We did not have dessert, so I cannot rate that, but the eggplant parm appetizer was great, the gnocchi is fantastic. We couldn't do the restaurant week option, because one person at our table was vegetarian (which wouldn't have worked with the fixed price menu) and they wouldn't let the table split. So, that was disappointing, but otherwise, it was great..."

  • "Everything, from the smells coming from their open kitchen when you first walk in the door to the service, was amazing! If you like gnocchi, try theirs with truffle oil and parmesan. Incredibly rich, but so, so good! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Ate in the elevator shaft of the restaurant, celebrating our anniversary. Room was nestled about a floor up overlooking the rest of the restaurant. Ambiance was spectacular, romantic and private. Staff was very welcoming and attentive to every detail of our order. Food was tremendous and cooked just right. Wine list was suburb. A wonderful experience and recommend to all, especially for a special occasion."

  • "it is a nice place, slightly loud. food is nice but portions are very very very small. you will certainly need a primo platti and a secondi platti"

  • "The food was good, and the serrvice was excellent. When I couldn't decide on wine, the waiter seemed to kind of be pushing a particular one, so I went with it, but was disappointed when I tasted it. Soon he checked back on whether I liked it, and when I said "I'm still deciding," he encouraged me to switch it out for a different one. The service was perfect--attentive but not intrusive. They let us share courses, and always asked "Should we divide it in the kitchen?" It's great when a restaurant doesn't mind sharing--it makes it possible for us to try places that would be a little over-budget otherwise. The music gave a lively atmostphere without being obnoxious."

  • "So embarrassed brought clients we all said how it had been years service was horrific and the food was even worse. They should close their doors. My salmon was fishy and I couldn't even eat it."

  • "Loved this place. Great food, service and style...loved every thing about it"

  • "Really disappointed with the quality and taste of the food - the food was tasteless and the sloppy in appearance. After reading reviews, we were anxious to try it, but we were sorely disappointed. I am not sure if it was due to the fact that we had a late reservation (11:30 pm), but we would not recommend it."

  • "We did the five-course pre-fixe menu for NYE. The restaurant was decorated beautifully -- festive, but not tacky. The food was delicious.... (one of the best filets I've eaten in a while and cooked to the perfect temperature!) Great gnocchi too! I'd say the desserts were mediocre... bland cannolis and cream puffs, but the entrees and appetizers made it worth the visit. My husband was surprised by the very limited wine list, which featured only blended reds. We went upstairs to the lounge after the ball dropped. The DJ played mostly Top 40's pop music which was fine, but the place was half-empty and never really picked up, so we left soon after. Overall, we had a really nice NYE, but if you're looking for a party, I'd go elsewhere."

  • "We had a Pre new years dinner and the restaurant was great. Sometimes the food or service can be off on holidays, but not here. Great food and helpful friendly staff"

  • "I wasn't very happy with the host. He said our table wasn't ready and we could wait for one in the back or take one in the front near the door. He pushed the tables close together and tried to put us closer to the door than the wall. He said he was saving it for another party. When I said we would then wait for the table in the back, he decided to give us the front table near the door closer to the wall than the actual door itself. Very disappointed in his attitude."

  • "We've gone to Vivo many times and this has been the best time so far. They always have excellent drinks and dinner options. The Gnocchi dinner (which we always order as an appetizer) is spectacular. This time it was paired with the best entree options we've seen to date. The filet, veal, and pork chops, were all delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "We had dined there before. They had changed the menu and removed the veal chop and the black ink pasta. The food was good but not the standard we had previously expected. My ragout was distinctive but I didn't like the taste. The caesar salad does not taste like a traditional one. Will not return."

  • "We are new to the area and decided to try this place out on a Friday night. The food was incredible! I had the black truffle gnocchi and my boyfriend has the seared scallops risotto special. Both were on the top of our "best foods ever ordered" lists. The ambiance was very cozy and not too loud. The service was great as well! We will definitely be dining here again!"
