Diner Reviews
  • "There are many better and more interesting places for brunch. My truffle frittata did not haver even a hint of truffle flavor. It was a lovely place with good service, but was very expensive for food that was just OK. The brunch menu did not offer enough choices and the toast was ordinary."

  • "great food, great location. located in the metreon complex. has indoor and outdoor patio dining. simple yet detailed menu. iwhen in doubt, i always order the bento box. it has a little of everything,; salad, miso soup, main course (usually a teriyaki or grilled fish item) side item (i.d. gyoza, croquette, etc..) and 3pc cali roll. i love the daily change in the bento box. a fun surprise every time!"

  • "Outstanding service - every staff person greeted me by name and offered birthday wishes to my friend. Food was very, very good. Prices are what you'd expect of the St. Regis."

  • "Delicious food serviced by an experienced staff in a room that is void of interest. DULL, static decor, it takes more than good and service."

  • "All I can say is this is a fantastic location and venue for anyone going to a conference at Moscone."

  • "Always a great place during the chaos of RSA. Away from the crowds and an excellent venue to have lunch."

  • "Service was exceptional as was the food. We had brunch before a show, wanted something special, this was it. Potatoes a little spicy for some in group, I thought perfect but other than that, we totally enjoyed the dining experience."

  • "For eggs, potatoes, and OJ, including parking, tax, and tips... We paid a little less than a $100, which is even high for SF standards. The space felt very cramped because the room is small and the ceiling are very low. This is our first and last time at this restaurant. If you happen to be staying at this hotel, stay in your room and order room service. Everyone else, there is no intelligent reason to eat at this place."

  • "Vitrine is off the street - way off the street on the 4th floor of the St. Regis Hotel. I have had lunch and brunch and have not had a bad meal yet. The chef is a very talented. Diners should pay attention to the subtle flavors of the meal. The dining room is decorated in mostly white. Chairs are covered in a luxuriously soft fabric. Tables are spaced well apart. The staff is very friendly and makes guests feel welcome. My only complaint is service which sometimes tends to be slow. We were puzzled by the staff's absence at times. Vitrine is highly recommended by me!"

  • "Went there for brunch. Food and service was good and solid as expected from St. Regis. The restaurant has very low ceiling which contributed to claustrophobic feel to restaurant. Good for business lunch."

  • "Enjoyed the brunch at Vitrine. It was quiet, service was excellent, great food and presentation. However, it is very expensive, especially the tea and coffee at $7 per pot. You definitely pay a premium for dining in the St Regis. We ordered the black truffle frittata and the Russian version of eggs benedict (with caviar), as well as a basket of pastries. All delicious and a lot of it so we enjoyed some of the pastries at home later. Recommended, but only when you're feeling flush."

  • "We had a pleasant and quiet conversation with healthy and tasty breakfast food and endless streams of coffee. And even though the meeting took quite some time we never felt hassled and were presented with the check only after our request. Any time again."

  • "I ordered the organic burger, which looked great until I noticed three dead gnats stuck on the lettuce leaf placed on the toasted bun. Since three of my guests were eating salads at this business lunch, I did not say anything immediately, but placed the lettuce leaves on my bread plate. When the waiter came by, I whispered that there were bugs on the lettuce. It appeared to me the lettuce was not washed properly. The waiter said he would inform the manager. No manager ever showed up. I decided to only eat the meat on the bun and the fries which were in the side. When I left, I told the hostess about the bugs and she seemed shocked but did not say she would inform the manager or the kitchen. The response to this situation was very poor."

  • "This was a very good venue for an important business meeting/breakfast, party of 8. It's location close to the Moscone was ideal, and the setting was conducive to a successful discussion between all parties."

  • "Very enjoyable Sunday brunch with a group of old friends getting together. The room is charming, the service impeccable, and we could actually all hear each other. We loved it!"

  • "We needed a brunch place before the theater where our family would be well accommodated and this restaurant fit the bill perfectly. The staff accommodated all our diverse requirements which we really appreciated. Good food and beautiful setting"

  • "Expected great things based on previous reviews. Vitrine is a nice respite from the downtown scene. Service wasn't as attentive as other diners had reported. Maybe because we were there Christmas day? Chef's tasting menu selection was OK. Overall unimpressed for the effort to drive, park, and walk there for what I was hoping would have been a superb holiday meal."

  • "The food and service were excellent but prices very high. They told us it was a brunch so we thought we would have a buffet type breakfast for Xmas but it was off the menue. $7 for a pot of tea seems excessive to me and I have eaten at many fine restuarants."

  • "We were there for brunch. It was very quiet and the service was soooo nice. The food was very good. I had the brioche French toast and it was delicious."

  • "Stopped for lunch - amazing burger. Probably in my top 5 all time burger experiences. Ambiance is boring. Staff attentive."

  • "Decent brunch for SF but on the expensive side. A glass of OJ for $9 is a bit crazy. One in my party (of 5) ordered the eggs benedict in which the egg was overcooked. The yoke was solid hard as opposed to "oozy" which is a big deal if Vitrine is trying to be a higher end brunch/breakfast place. That's the only food complaint as the other entrees were pretty good. Service was good at the start, but has room for improvement. After the waiter took my credit card to charge, the wait was a bit long considering it was not a packed house (over 5 minutes). If you can afford to pay $20+ per person for an above average breakfast + 2 times what you normally should pay for drinks, go for it."

  • "In a city full of noisy and energetic restaurants, Vitrine stands out as a place for a quiet rendezvous with attentive service and excellent food."

  • "Very nice - even the person among us that didn't like fish, enjoyed his fish meal!"

  • "As it was a business brunch that we were having, we appreciated that the service staff was discreet, non-intrusive when serving & still paid us sufficient attention during our time there."

  • "I am a very commited boozy lunch person, and, previously my favorite spot for a mid-day drink (or two) and a great lunch was the Rotunda. Now, I have to replace it with Vitrine. The ambiance in the quite, smallish dining room is perfect for a mid-day respite. The menu was packed with lunch items I love - chopped salad, club sandwich, a good burger, innovative salads & a decent wine list (where the mark up was pretty outlandish, but, it is the St. Regis). We both had the burger, and, honestly, the burger was one of my favorite in San Francisco - definitely on par wih Marlowe. The deserts were equally impressive - apricot upside down cake and a charlotte were perfectly sized and blissfully delicious. The service was slightly overdone, tho"

  • "Elegant - but not stuffy or pretentious. From the amuse bouche to the final sip of (excellent) coffee everything was lovely. The food is delicious, beautifully plated. A bit pricey, but all things considered, well worth it."

  • "I've visited Vitine twice and each time the waiters made me feel at home. The food is remarkable."

  • "They have great customer service. No matter how picky you might be, they are very concerned about your enjoyment of your meal. We enjoyed ourselves a lot on that morning."

  • "I love the ambiance: so peaceful, quiet, serene above the chaos of 3rd Street. We just enter and immediately feel our pulse rate slow down causing us to enjoy the food and wine just that much more. Very sophisticated but still friendly."

  • "Vitrine is a hidden gem being that it is on the fourth floor of the St. Regis Hotel. The food was very good and the wait staff attentive and friendly. A keeper."

  • "i've been to vitrine a few times before so i know that the service can and has been so much better -- our waiter this time was fine at first but then he became absentee and neglectful. in fact at some point my friend had to get up herself to grab a pitcher of water because we had none left at all for over 15 minutes! the food was spectacular (the fare is light so don't go too hungry!) but what kind of restaurant doesn't offer a dessert menu after a meal or ask if you want any other drinks or anything? if i hadn't been there before and know how good it can be i wouldn't bother to go back. i was incredibly disappointed this time and hope that this was just a case of one bad server vs. a new level of service."

  • "Slow service -- took about 5 minutes to get our first visit in a mostly empty restaurant during normal hours. $23 burger (or was it $26?) that just wasn't that much better than a decent chain restaurant. I've paid $50 for an amazing burger and would do it again, but this made me wish I'd gone to In-n-out."

  • "Enjoyed another outstanding breakfast at the hotel. No one knows French Toast like the chefs at St. Regis!"

  • "The usual St Regis high quality. The room itself is a little odd - almost like you are in a high-end conference room"

  • "A great place with great food. Ideal for a business lunch."
    Dined on 12/6/2011
  • "Chop salad for lunch was very disappointing ... basically just shredded lettuce with a couple tid-bits of chicken -- all for the bargain price of $20. Very poor representation of what seemed to be a nice restaurant. Service was also marginal -- expect more from St Regis and the price they charge."
    Dined on 10/3/2011
  • "The food was not quite as sophisticated or as high quality in terms of preparation as I would have expected given the reputation of St Regis as well as the significantly superior Ame restaurant, also on site (but only open for dinner). Prices are high and service is very professional but there is a lot of competition for lunch in the area when you are spending nearly $50/person."

  • "I had read so much about Vitrine that we went there for Sunday brunch and were frankly disappointed. The breakfast was good, but nothing special. The hostess was horrible...kept us waiting almost 10 minutes for our table even though we had reservations and the dining room was empty. When we complained to the manager she just said, "Sorry about that, I'll talk to her"! (The server made up for it, which is why i rated them fair, between poor and good.)"
