Diner Reviews
  • "Vito has an old-fashioned vibe with excellent traditional Italian food. The service is constant and unobtrusive. Highly recommended."

  • "I had heard that Vito's was good so finally decided to stop by. Got the Spaghetti Della Casa and was unimpressed. It was not bad, but very average. The desserts were an improvement, though a bit overly sweet which at times can tend to mask a subpar dessert. At the end, after waiting for 10 minutes, we had to go and find a waiter to get our check. Up till then the service had been just fine."

  • "Like jumping into a time machine and finding yourself in a New Jersey Italian Mafioso hangout. Waiters with tuxedos and faux Italian accents. Great service. Homestyle food. Classy joint."

  • "Really can't say enough good things about Vitos. they have the dining experience down to a tee. Super attentive staff that has been there over a decade. Food is really off the charts, specials every night. The thing we really love is the atmosphere, very mid centrury modern dining room with frank playing in the background, authentic without being overstated. Would recommend trying for lunch first better prices and the portion size about the same."

  • "Absolutely love this place. Food is phenomenal. Location is easy to get to. Valet parking is easy and very reasonably priced. Great wine selection at an affordable price. Delicious desserts. You cant go wrong with anything here."

  • "Returning to Vito after a decade convinces me that it is possible for a restaurant to remain at the top of its form. On past visits to Vito, I had been impressed with both the food and the service - in many ways very close to the experiences I've had in top European restaurants. On my return, I found the same amazing service and wine list that I remembered, and food that was even more impressive. The three course meal that the waiter defined with us combined a lovely puttanesca with perfectly cooked fish and memorable short ribs. One of the very few times that I wasn't left thinking "this is almost as good as ________." The staff and kitchen should be proud of keeping such standards and so ably serving a happy house of diners."

  • "This was our third time at this restaurant, although it is located near our house, where we have lived for 16 years. We will never go back. It was crowded at 6 pm on a Friday (mostly old people, early diners). The restraurant is very dark. The booth we were in (in the very back of the place) was tight and the seats uncomfortable. The service was "sluggish"; the waiter hat a strong accent and was difficult to understand. Waiters were constantly stepping over each other. Most importantly though, the food is way overprized and medicore. Simple pasta dishes for $18+! Simple Cesar salad for two $17.95. You don't have to have wine or dessert but still walk out with a substantial bill here. I do not know what the attraction is of this place."

  • "Vito's is a neighborhood, Santa Monica favorite. A very upscale, old-school Italian restaurant with impeccable food and service."

  • "This was our first time at Vito's. We were a party of 6, of which one couple are regulars ... which we could tell why immediately! Great wine and food, waiters were friendly and helpful w/ suggestions! Keep doing what you are doing ;-)"

  • "Food was delicious . I had short ribs with a gravy that tasted great on the way in and lingered afterward. My guest had the shrimp scampi that also was an A plus. Leftovers were still tasty 3 days later . Nikolas was our waiter and he was professional , knowledgeable and makes a mean Caesar salad. We will be back!!!!"

  • "Can't go wrong for a date night or special occasion. Even group settings this would be a nice environment."

  • "Came here after driving past it every night on my way home from work. We had the spaghetti a la Casa and the gnocchi for mains, caprese for an appetizer and cheesecake for dessert. We were pleased with the service and quality of the food. The prices are a bit higher than I'd expected so minus one star for value."

  • "I just went to Vito's for the first time this weekend. It is truly old school Italian. The wine list was vast. The service was so above and beyond what you find at a typical LA place. Food was delicious. We will definitely return!"

  • "decent food served by a friendly and professional staff in comfy, yesteryear surroundings. and they pour a good drink. all at moderate prices. hard combination to beat."

  • "I love Italian food and this is by far one of the best places I have been to. Portions are very filling and the pricing is just right. The food is rich in flavor and very delicious. Everything we had at the table was amazing. Highly recommend the house spaghetti with shrimp and the pasta arbiatta Good spot for a date or anniversary. Good for groups probably no larger than 8-10."

  • "Vito was as it always is - rock-solid, with an Italian twist. Good food; good drinks; good people and good conversation are the recipe for good times. Vito holds up its end by providing the wonderful food and booze. When you supply the other two ingredients, and mix in Vito's impeccable service, it all adds up to a memorable evening.!There is a reason why a specialty restaurant lasts for over thirty years in an ultra-competitive market like Santa Monica/West Los Angeles. One bite is all the explanation you will need, but save some room for the best cannoli this side of Brooklyn!"

  • "There are so many things to love about this old school gem. But the price is just ridiculous for what you get. Even with the neighborhood VIP card which gives you 30% off, a plate of pasta with red sauce and melted cheese is still $20. Food here is good, but honestly not too much better than the Olive Garden on a really good night. The cozy old school vibe and the awesome waiters and killer dessert cart are the real draw."

  • "This restaurant had very good reviews on Yelp. When we arrived at 6 pm, the place was practically empty which was a good thing as I thought the waiters wouldn't be rushed. Contrary to what I thought, just 2 minutes after we were handed the menu, the waiter wanted our order. He seemed impatient and not particularly happy about answering any questions. I think I asked one question but that was enough. I ordered the scampi but I wouldn't say it was phenomenal. The caesar salad tasted like 100% vinegar. My husband like his pasta dish."

  • "Old school Italian. Great service. Quiet ambiance. You almost feel like you're in a tiny Chicago Italian place, with snow outside. All sense of time is lost. The food isn't great; not terrible, but not the main attraction. The ambiance and the service makes up for mediocre food. Good for groups where you are the entertainment."

  • "The penne arrabbiata was the best I've tasted. Food was generally very good as it has been for the last 25 years. Standard prices are on the high side, but discounts are often available."

  • "Caprese salad with put your own olive oil/ balsamic vinegar to taste, plus the great tasting pizza rolls...... Specials sounded good, but the veal dishes won out for both of us and great desserts with their house blend coffee and we were happy............"

  • "Whenever we want a quiet diner with good food and ambience we go to Vito's. We have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and various other special events there."

  • "As always, everything was outstanding. Sauteed sand dabs done to perfection; friend's veal meatballs were HUGE; Veal picatta done beautifully. LOVE Vito's caesar salad prepared table-side. Although spaghetti and meat sauce was $3.00 extra in substitution for vegetable it was well-worth it, per Hubby!"

  • "When our daughter came to town on 10/4 we decided to take her here for dinner, and made reservations for that evening. We must have gotten the last table available, as we were seated next to the kitchen door, which was not ideal. Although the food was outstanding, as usual, the traffic in and out of the kitchen in a narrow aisle between tables was disconcerting! Service, as always was good. We are regulars here since we discovered it a few months ago."

  • "Service was wonderful, as was the food! We LOVE the caesar salad made table-side, and this seems to be a dying art which they preserve and perfect here."
