Diner Reviews
  • "Would recommand for the view, but food was OK (no more) and service pretty mich inexistant. "

  • "Most entertaining drink list I have ever seen. The drink names are all famous quotes from movies. I ordered extra drinks just based off the names."

  • "We had the before 6:30 specials and felt we had enjoyed the rich atmosphere and been treated to a fine dining experience for under $50 for 2. I've never tipped so well for such deserved service. No regrets only praise for service and food quality,"

  • "The views here are outstanding. This was a great spot for a gathering of some friends in from Vancouver for the weekend. The menu provides plenty of variety and the prices are very reasonable. Food was fantastic. Highly recommend the West Coast Benny. Service was great. This was the perfect Sunday brunch."

  • "We dined for the first time at Vista 18 to celebrate a birthday. They gave us a great view table and comped the dessert! The meal was delicious, generous portions and excellent service. We'll be back for sure."

  • "Food was average and portions small. But great ambience and very attentive and knowledgeable serving staff."

  • "If there was not the spectacular view I would not return. The food was ok; most of us had brunch egg dishes which were fine but my 'salad' was bizarre...I had the Cobb Salad and it was very plain, tasteless and it was missing ingredients. The only reason I didn't complain was because I figured maybe my meal choice was odd for them. The view is worth a visit; just stick to the basics food-wise."

  • "I always love going to Vista 18. The service is always good, it is quiet enough to have a conversation, and watching the lights come up over the harbour is very soothing. You can sit facing 3 directions with different views. They have live music sometimes that is very enjoyable, as well. It is among my favourite 3 restaurants in Victoria."

  • "We didn't know what we were walking into when we booked on OT. We got giddy taking the elevator to the top floor of the hotel, walked out to find live jazz music. We sat in what I'd consider the best seat in the house, corner table with a full view of the water and downtown Victoria. Our service was hands down some of the best we'd ever received (thank you Jason). Excellent cocktails, creative menu, wine pairing was on point, and great conversation with our server. He recommended some excellent cocktail bars and breakfast spots for us to visit during the rest of our stay in Victoria. We not only want to dine here on our stay, but want to stay in the hotel as well! Thank you!"

  • "The 3 course dine around menu was great food for a decent price."
    Dined on 3/1/2014
  • "We had an excellent evening and everyone enjoyed the food, the service and not least the view. We perhaps made a mistake in ordering the coupon $30.00 three course meal, as although the three courses were beautifully done and titillated the taste buds, on returning home everyone felt the need of a snack!"

  • "The location and service was great as no problems with that. BUT the portions for the price was shocking. For example, order scallops expect a few for $18, But no only 3 pieces for that price. Next visit to Victoria not be going back to this restaurant"

  • "We've been to Vista 18 many times for a variety of occasions. As always, the service and food were excellent. We requested a window table when emailed our reservation and were seated at an incredible corner window table - lots of room - not too close to the table next to us. We'll be back!"

  • "We couldn't help but laugh when our dinner came out. The portion size were ridiculously small. We spent $300 on dinner and ended up going out to eat after we left there as we were starving."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Very good food ambiance and service. A little pricey considering the portion sizes."

  • "This place is great for a romantic night or business brunch. Brunch menu is fairly affordable. The view is the best in town. Great drinks, amazing food, and casual but respectful service."

  • "It was a group of 6 of us that dined. The service was was very good. Responsive but not overbearing. Food was great and they sure know how to make martini's! I would recommend this place for couples and for groups."

  • "Great view, atmosphere, and service, but very very poor execution on the food. Even after a replacement entrée was provided, it was evident that the kitchen was unable to execute even the most basic fare. Very very disappointed here (again)."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Service was excellent, server was quick and knowledgeable about the dishes she recommends. Food was good but could be better. Had the linguine and cornbread. Linguine was very salty and cornbread was more burnt than usual. Cornbread was completely black on one side. Seems like the cook drop the ball this time. Ambience: Nice view of the harbour and down town Victoria Great for: Dinner dates, company function, business lunch/dinner. Will come back but skipping the Linguine and cornbread next time...even though waiter was adamant it was to die for..."

  • "What a great vantage point for dining experience in one of Canada's most beautiful cities. Unique entrees along with a reasonable wine list and friendly staff combine to make this a sure winner."

  • "The menu looked pretty good. I ordered the Fois Gras Brulee. It looked like a creme brulee as you would expect. But it was just a bowl of fois gras. FIVE minutes later the brioche toast arrived. It took about an hour to get appetizers. The filet arrived after another hour. It was about 3oz. - the smallest I have ever seen. It was luke warm. The side of mushrooms varied from cold to warm in different places on the plate. The corn bread was pretty tasty. It seemed like the kitchen was the killer, not the waitress. Would not repeat."

  • "This was my first visit to Vista 18. I really like the views and overall athmosphere of the restaurant. The servers were very nice and friendly, but we had to wait way too long for our food to arrive. The food was very tasty but I find that people who opt for a chicken breast without butter and sauce, don't expect the breast to be greesy and have skin. This is my fault, i should have asked. I will definnitely visit the restaurant again. Should the service prove to be slow again, I will hesitate to make subsequent visits. Sincerely, Zana"

  • "I am very hard to please when it comes to restaurants, but discovering Vista 18 was a joy. I first went with a group of ladies for lunch and was so impressed that I took a friend for a birthday lunch a week later. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in shades of blue, beige and brown. The view is dazzling, high over Victoria, and there are no bad seats because you either sit next to the window or on a raised banquette on the other side. Service is prompt, professional and efficient. The lunch menu was varied. We had: crab and shrimp on focaccia, pear and Brie pizza, crispy oysters on a soft bun and other salads and soups. The yam fries are excellent and you get a dish of yam crisps as soon as you sit down. I will be going back."

  • "Vista 18 was a wonderful place for our group lunch. We dined at 1 pm hopefully after most of their lunch crowd as our group of ladies is enthusiastic. Great food, great atmosphere, just right service."

  • "I had previously been to Vista 18 for dinner and it was fantastic! A group of us went to Vista 18 for brunch on Sunday to celebrate my birthday. The food was mediocre: eggs were overcooked and the plates looked horrible with a dried kiwi smear on them. The service was poor as well. Our server didn't smile once, when a member of our party asked for more coffee her response was that she had just filled it and we never once were given a drink menu despite asking for one. While I would definitely return to Vista 18 for dinner I will not return for brunch."

  • "Had a lovely evening out with the girlfriends. Vista 18 was perfect spot for catching up, great food and fantastic wine. Our waitress was knowledgeable and friendly an all around perfect evening Although my meal (mushroom philo tart and chicken) and 2 of my other girlfriends (ravioli and lamb dishes) were excellent; the seafood pot didn't have much substance to it and felt the flavor lacked. Not bad, just not exactly what 2 of my girlfriends were expecting. Desserts, coffee - two thumbs up :) I will definitely come again"

  • "Food was warm only - not very tasty. Coffee and tea cold. View good. Even a family restaurant provides better food."

  • "Quiet night, food excellent, chicken liver appie outstanding, wish we sat on harbour side, better view."

  • "I have dined here several times and have not been disappointed. I love the view! two in our party of 10 had the lamb two ways. The lamb shepherds pie was delicious, however the lamb on it's own was overcooked. My sister sent hers back with no trouble and it was corrected. Another in our party had the sampler menu, he said it was all delicious (the salmon brule was a bit odd) . My sons steak was a bit overdone from the medium rare requested. The potato leek soup was very good. The beat side salad was excellent."

  • "My girlfriend and I recently visited the restaurant for our 6 year anniversary. The atmosphere was perfect, quite and romantic. The view is amazing all around the restaurant, but I am pretty sure they sat us in the best seats. We both had a good view of the parliament building lit up for Christmas. Our food was amazing and the server had an extensive knowledge of both the menu and wine list. We both felt the portion sizes were perfect for the price, you don't get the feeling that you should have ordered more after you left. I had the sable fish, which was prepared perfectly and the market price for the day was fair. We were both very impressed and we will be back in the future."

  • "I recently took my sister there for her birthday. Although the view is stunning, the food wasn't as good as it used to be and our server wasn't very friendly. It seemed as though she didn't really want to be working there and the service was slow."

  • "Choice of a 3 course tasting menu or "Simplicity" entrees with a range of sauces to add or "Chef specials" - wow, something for everyone. An excellent choice for the "foodie" crowd. Service was pleasant and informative."

  • "Great job definitely some of the best food in Victorialove the view"

  • "I have been popping into Vista 18 at least annually for the past 10 years or so. The menu continues changes subtly and the view is the best in the city. Was able to sit in my favorite romantic corner table and bask in the lights of the city at night. My date loved it too. Neither of us were very hungry and we forwent appy's to order from the simplicity menu. She had the Arctic Char and I had The Beef Tenderloin. Both were fantastic, so good in fact that I convinced her to try my beef and she doesn't normally eat red meat.. Her mouthwatering bite convinced her to at least reconsider red meat in the future. The only thing missing is modern style, Vista 18 still feels like it's t in the late 80's. Time to remodel, at least lights."

  • "Service was excellent but a tad slow. This is the only knock against this restaurant. Amazing seafood dishes that were presented beautifully. The view of the inner harbour and Parliament were the best I've seen. If you ever want to impress a date or just get out of the dog house this is the place."

  • "A booth (as I prefer booths) and seating on the other side of the building towards the harbour and Empress/Parliament buildings. It was a special occasion and since I booked well enough ahead of time I would have thought a great table would have been a given. I'll know better next time."

  • "Our party of 8 arrived for our 11:00 brunch booking last Sunday. Only one elevator was working, which made us a bit late getting to level 18. Then we had to wait about 12 minutes while our table was being prepared. Service was very slow - took about 40 minutes for our simple breakfast orders to arrive from the time we were seated - and all of the food (supposed to be hot) was on the lukewarm side. Service was friendly enough, but barely competent. It must be better than this usually or the restaurant wouldn't still be in business. But we had no explanation as to what the problem was. We may try it again some time, but not in a hurry."

  • "Excellent view of the city, mountains and sea. Dinner with group of 12, seating was comfortable and quiet. Appetizers and small plates wowed everyone, Roasted Yam soup and Bison Tenderloin Carpaccio very good. Cocktails are great, wine list OK but not extensive. Some main courses not up to par, beef tenderloin had gristle. Side of wild mushrooms were woody and cold. Kitchen had trouble keeping up with 2 large groups, our entrees took too long after starters and not hot when they arrived. One entree was missed, diner waited another 5 minutes after others served. Disappointed as I recommended we choose Vista 18. In past has always been excellent for 2 or 4 people. Hopefully just an off night."

  • "We had three dishes. For all three, the quantities were small for the price charged. Started with Lettuce wraps, they tasted like lemon cleaner and did not have enough shrimp and sauce to fill the wrap, so my first few bites were just lettuce. I had spinach pesto spaghetti, I found it very good, but like I said the quantity was small so I was left wanting more. Girlfriend had the seafood hotpot, also tasted good. Service was good. Restaurant was beautiful, as well as the view."

  • "My husband and I wanted a lovely dinner and a warm atmosphere. Smart-casual was the norm and we felt well at ease dressed up and sparkly! The service was impeccable. Attention to details prominent. The service team was ever present and we never wanted for anything! Dinner was delicious. Although we were full by dessert we tried the lime coconut ice-cream which was a perfect end to our meal !We would recommend this dining experience to anyone looking for an unforgettable dinner experience! We look forward to dinning there again."
