  • "We had a reservation but arrived 1/2 hr early. We were seated right away. Our server; Elvis was attentive and the food was great."

  • "It was quick seating, service and wonderful food! Great prices as well"

  • "We like Virgil's because it reminds of of our trips down South. Love to start out with Hush Puppies and Sweet Tea. Have some Pulled Pork, Cole Slaw, and Corn Bread. Never have room for dessert but that's ok! Would recommend."

  • "Nice place, good food. Had the rib special but didn't love the sauce. Quick service and decent prices for a NYC restaurant."

  • "I work in the area and Virgil's is my favorite local spot for great food....."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "Been a regular customer since they opened the joint. Been to many of the places listed on the placemats; Virgils's keeps up the traditions of those great restaurants."

  • "We were not impressed with the food or the service. It did not up to the hype."

  • "I've been going here for nearly 10 years now. Times, they have a'changed...though in some really good ways! The pulled chicken is leaps and bounds better than before, the ribs are more succulent and flavorful, and those hush puppies and that mac & cheese just keep being spectacular. The biscuit wasn't so great this time (rather dry), but they went back to letting you sub out said biscuit for cornbread. The Pig Out is now only four of the meats, but very healthy portions of each, opposed to smaller versions of all. The cheese pie is a bigger slice. They still let you order the Ultimate Lemonade off the menu. And downstairs has more seating."

  • "Only one style of the BBQ , no good customer service at the end, it was raining in NYC and the hosted did not help anybody to call for a taxi."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "Perhaps the staff were distracted by world cup soccer on TV. The upstairs room was not exceptionally full and it was early, but my order was incomplete and the staff unresponsive."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "The food came out quickly and the portions were HUGE (which is always a good thing). The BBQ food was good but nothing outstanding. Atmosphere was casual, lively and fun. Our server was not very attentive or friendly so the service could use some improvement."

  • "Haven't been to Virgil's for at least a year. Based on our past experiences, we expected a very good meal. My meal was not good. The Brisket was dry and I did not eat it. The ribs were either very fatty or very dry, and also not edible. The only part of the meal I enjoyed was the Macaroni & Cheese and the Corn Bread. I will not be returning to Virgil's. Check out Time Out New York or The New Yorker for better barbecue places in the city."

  • "This has grea proximity to Times Square and Broadway, yet isn't too expensive. Consider it normal city expensive. The kids meals were very generous. Our server was very prompt. The quantity and quality of the food made us feel we got our money's worth."

  • "HAVE TO GET THE BBQ NACHO. The combination of jalpeno peppers with the pulled pork/chicken and brisket is amazing!"
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "If you crave BBQ and you are visiting Times Square. You can't Go wrong here. The menu is large and varied. So it's not just BBQ. But if BBQ is what you want, there are many styles to choose from and they all taste great."

  • "Didn't think food was anything special. Large portions of meat entree though."

  • "Staff was friendly at first but when the tables starting filling up we constantly needed to remind the staff we were there. At a BBQ restaurant why didn't they just leave a pitcher of water on the table so your guest can wash down the salty rubbed food. Extremely fatty meat - ribs has more fat than meat, chicken was just ok nothing different from Kentucky Fried Chicken! Disappointed"

  • "This is a great barbecue place for a quick bite to eat in the city. It's very reasonable for New York, great service, and tasty"
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "If you want good BBQ, served fast, for a moderate price, with enormous portions, Virgil's is the place. I had the Virgil's BBQ salad, and could only manage half of it -- the portions are so large. So, plan to share. Tables are small, so those patrons that ordered many plates find there is no room for the dolly of sauces. Neighboring table(s) had both appetizers and mains delivered at the same time. Overall, it is a bargain."

  • "Since Virgil's was a barbeque restaurant, I thought the food would be much better than it was. I have had much better barbeque. It was OK, but I don't think I would go back."

  • "Surprised a friend for her birthday and took her to Virgil's. Everything was great, food atmosphere and service. I will return"
    Dined on 6/24/2014
  • "I've heard (though I don't know for sure) that Virgil's barbecue isn't 100% authentic (i.e., they supposedly do some cooking over gas flames rather than cooking exclusively with wood), but I can't argue with the results. Preferences in barbecue seem to be very personal -- you love whatever you grew up with. Well, Virgil's hits the spot for me. Service was fine except for one error (they delivered the wrong side dishes for two of three people at our table), but they corrected it immediately. I'd be happier if they would turn down the volume on the music, but that's a personal quirk. Most people probably wouldn't be bothered."

  • "Huge portions, great beers, good solid bbq food and fried chicken... noisy, but in a good way!"

  • "Southern cooking in NYC. The most succulent ribs with the perfect rub. Only ever get the ribs, but the other food looks good too. Really creamy cheesy grits, tangy slaw. Just perfect after a show!"
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "Made reservations here because I ate at Virgil's the first time I visited NYC. We were seated quickly, service was good, and food came out promptly. The ribs were not very good this time. They were tough and not very juicy. The roasted chicken was delicious and side dishes were good. Overall, our experience was good, but most in my group were disappointed in the ribs."

  • "Enjoy the delicious meats-pulled pork, pulled chicken and sliced brisket over a large salad. They were very nice and accommodating when a friend joined us and the gave us a larger table"
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "I was very disappointed by my recent visit to Virgil's this past week. The food was not up to their standard. I wanted to impress my daughter and granddaughter as I have always spoke so highly about the food. The entire orders (ribs, chicken, pulled pork and brisket) were very dry. None of the meat was chewable. Appears that the food was either left out for a long time or was simply over cooked. As we exited Virgil's I heard other customers complain about the same. Very dissapointed!!"

  • "You must make a reservation before you go. There are always people waiting to be seated. I always make my reservation and I never have to wait for our table. Bathrooms are clean and I like the hot wet towels given after you eat, which are needed if you eat ribs and wings. Love the cornbread, too. Prices are reasonable."

  • "We had early dinner after a Wednesday Broadway matinee - could not have been timed better, we we were seated right away, and the wait staff was attentive throughout, even though it started to get crowded shortly after we arrived. We were also celebrating a birthday, and did not feel at all rushed. The fries and nachos were to die for.... more than enough for five, we took some home! Then dinner came- delicious huge portions also! Yup, more leftovers! Probably some of the best BBQ we have ever had, and great value for what you get. I will definitely be back when in the theater district. Should have expected nothing less, same ownership as Carmine's, the go-to family style Italian restaurant in the theatre district."

  • "Fast and courteous service and we were all very happy with our meals! I recommend the Georgia Chicken Fried Steak and the Baby Back Ribs!"
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "Virgil's is always a safe bet when hosting out of town guests. The BBQ is decent and the servers seem to be skilled in handling large groups. Half of the dinner party was from Dallas and they said the BBQ was better than their last BBQ dinner in Texas!"

  • "Convenient to Broadway shows and Times Square. Friendly staff that was very helpful and patient with the five children at our table. Good barbecue ribs with a rub, smoky brisket and great mac and cheese. Accommodated our crowd of 9 without difficutly."

  • "Took my husband for father's day dinner. Was able to make reservations, food was awesome and we all enjoyed our time together!"
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "I enjoyed dining there on Father's Day. The ribs were tender and juicy; nice sized plates with plenty of food. The essence of the restaurant was calming and inviting yet it gave one the comfort of Big Mama's kitchen. The busboy and waitress were very attentive and when I was served dark meat chickenl the waitress immediately corrected such. It was the finisihing touch to a good day ."

  • "The person who took my reservation was competent, even though we got stuck in traffic p she held our table. The wait staff was prompt and helpful. We were pleased with the food menu. Cannot complain about anything I expected the BBQ to be outstanding...it was just average."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "The food lived up to the reputation. Portions were huge. Had leftovers for a full meal the next day. The wait-staff were attentive but not intrusive."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "That was my third time at Virgils. I recommend the restaurant to all my foodie friends that are going to see a play. The portions are always generous, there is something on the menu for everyone. If you like barbecue this is one you won't want to miss."
