  • "Good food. Good value. BBQ chicken and ff were not hot and when crowded the noise level was high but good overall experience and I would recommend."

  • "I should have known but was looking for a reasonable place in theater district. Pulled pork was over salty; cheesy grits had a skin from sitting around, etc. Order was incorrect although didn't try to change because of time constraints. Server was sweet but didn't bring salad early as requested and had to be waved down after food delivery."

  • "Decent bbq food. Gd portiin size. Waiter just didmt want to be there. No personality, no patience. A bit awkward for a myc yourist spot."

  • "I had the brisket and I wasn't impressed. My date choice catfish he loved it. The server was great, but I didn't find the food memorable"

  • "Went there to meet my sister and future brother in law. Good relaxed atmoshphere, good food and portions, good prices. Really homey spot despite being in Times Square and all that craziness."
    Dined on 7/20/2014
  • "Hush Puppies were awesome - crisp, moist, flavorful (hint of sweet onion?). The Wings were really good - nice rub flavor, plenty of smoke, and crisp skin. Got the Pig Out and liked it all, with the brisket being the best part. Mac and Cheese was so good the wife was still talking about it the next day."

  • "I've been going to Virgil's for over 15 years and the food is consistently fantastic, even for picky BBQ eaters. I love the Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Memphis ribs are a great choice. The beer list is also good with a decent range of choices, including an old Louisiana favorite, Blackened Voodoo. I'm so glad that you can make reservations there now."

  • "We had a reservation for 6 pm on a busy Saturday and were seated within a few minutes of our arrival. If you love BBQ you will love Virgil's. I ordered the Shrimp and Trash Ribs. Very tasty! The Hush Puppies appetizer were great too. Be prepared...the portions are large. Service was excellent. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely go back."

  • "This was the perfect place to eat before our show (Motown). We all had the Pick Two with various sides. Everything was absolutely delicious ! Portions were huge. We could not eat it all in one sitting,so we took the rest with us. We were stuffed when we left. The service was great, and they gave us warm towels for our hands when we were done. Please go. You will be glad you did."

  • "I used open table and was simple with Virgil's confirming our reservation. We were running late because of traffic, called them and were very obliging to move our reservation 30 minutes later. The waiter was helpful and service and food were terrific. The hush puppies and nacho BBQ style very tasty!!! Meal great as usual!! Try the lemonade!!"

  • "After a great week of dining in NYC we were looking forward to another memorable meal here - we couldn't wait for some fabulous bbq - but we were disappointed. We ordered the pulled pork, brisket, ribs, hamburger and bbq chicken. In the end, about 75% of our food remained uneaten. When the waitress came by, she didn't ask if anything was wrong, she just started clearing the plates. This place is clearly a tourist trap. The ribs were dry and meatless, the pork greasy, the chicken slimy, the brisket was too fatty and the hamburger was burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. There are much better places in NYC to eat."

  • " i was disappointed otherwise the rating would have been higher. The wings & hush puppies are a must for appetizers (i can live on these alone) but i also had the special catch of the day (deep fried Alaskan Cod with waffle chips). it was exceedingly salty & greasy & the bottom of the plate had a layer of oil on it. Having been here on other occasions i found this a bit surprising. The waiter never asked how my entree was considering i didn't eat it. i don't like making a fuss so i paid for it but didn't even bother having it bagged to take with me as it was inedible by any standards. everything else was delicious. Hopefully this was an aberration and it won't stop me from going there again"

  • "We like Virgil's because it reminds of of our trips down South. Love to start out with Hush Puppies and Sweet Tea. Have some Pulled Pork, Cole Slaw, and Corn Bread. Never have room for dessert but that's ok! Would recommend."

  • "Nice place, good food. Had the rib special but didn't love the sauce. Quick service and decent prices for a NYC restaurant."

  • "I've been going here for nearly 10 years now. Times, they have a'changed...though in some really good ways! The pulled chicken is leaps and bounds better than before, the ribs are more succulent and flavorful, and those hush puppies and that mac & cheese just keep being spectacular. The biscuit wasn't so great this time (rather dry), but they went back to letting you sub out said biscuit for cornbread. The Pig Out is now only four of the meats, but very healthy portions of each, opposed to smaller versions of all. The cheese pie is a bigger slice. They still let you order the Ultimate Lemonade off the menu. And downstairs has more seating."

  • "Been a regular customer since they opened the joint. Been to many of the places listed on the placemats; Virgils's keeps up the traditions of those great restaurants."

  • "The food came out quickly and the portions were HUGE (which is always a good thing). The BBQ food was good but nothing outstanding. Atmosphere was casual, lively and fun. Our server was not very attentive or friendly so the service could use some improvement."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "Perhaps the staff were distracted by world cup soccer on TV. The upstairs room was not exceptionally full and it was early, but my order was incomplete and the staff unresponsive."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "Only one style of the BBQ , no good customer service at the end, it was raining in NYC and the hosted did not help anybody to call for a taxi."

  • "This has grea proximity to Times Square and Broadway, yet isn't too expensive. Consider it normal city expensive. The kids meals were very generous. Our server was very prompt. The quantity and quality of the food made us feel we got our money's worth."

  • "Haven't been to Virgil's for at least a year. Based on our past experiences, we expected a very good meal. My meal was not good. The Brisket was dry and I did not eat it. The ribs were either very fatty or very dry, and also not edible. The only part of the meal I enjoyed was the Macaroni & Cheese and the Corn Bread. I will not be returning to Virgil's. Check out Time Out New York or The New Yorker for better barbecue places in the city."
