Violino's never disappoints. Everybody ordered something different and we were all VERY pleased with our meals. From the melt in your mouth braised short ribs to the moist Alaskan halibut. Every special request was handled deftly by our waiter. My only caution would be to first time diners, the portion sizes are generous! Great way to start out our evening with our friends.

In fairness the Waiter comp'd my entree - which he had personally recommended - the short ribs were a disaster - chewy not fall apart like I expected. They certainly were not cooked for 8 hrs as was explained to me. Our Waiter also comp'd us a glass of sherry each and a shared dessert com'd for my disappointment. Our bread platter was left empty which we had finished after the appetizer was finished - and left empty on our table throughout the entire meal - even the Owner/Manager? who came over for a chit chat never removed it. My spouse's entree was good - he enjoyed the special of the day - a steak with crab. Our appetizer, which I was looking forward to - the Calamari - was chewy - and overcooked. Overall though, a disaster! We were given a beautiful table by the fire. We will try them again and see how it goes in the near future. Perhaps their head Chef wasn't in attendance the evening we were there.

This is the second time I have been to Violino and both times it didn't impress. The setting has a unique 'rustiqueness' about that is very warming, not too busy or loud. The service is also excellent and is a notable strength. Unfortunately the food lets the place down. There is a sense of anticipation when the food arrives, but on almost very occasion is let down by the lack of invention. The food is not 'special', its just 'OK'. Flavours are bland and presentation is average to good. The veal can be dry or too fatty, the seafood seemed straight out of the freezer and the salads a bit lifeless. Nothing exciting. Leaves you with a sense of I can do better in my own kitchen.

5 star food quality with good service. Varied menu with great food presentation. Atmosphere in restaurant seems to have changed from formal dining to more casual. Beautiful room, tables spaced far apart.Look like 100 years for the mansion,Highly Recommended this place.

Dinner for two was $120 not including tip. Would go back but it's one of those places to save for a special occasion! Hubby loved the osso Bucco. I'm a vegetarian. Would love to have had more choices for myself. Even the pasta dishes had meat or seafood and the waiter did not even offer to try to make something without meat so I had the risotto of the day (primavera) which was so-so and $24!!

My dining companion and I each ordered a pizza on our recent outing to Violino. They did not disappoint - two large fragrant pies were presented to us on huge wooden serving board. We valiantly consumed half of our pizzas - portions so generous that we had leftovers for snacks later. Two huge groups were there and they detracted somewhat from the atmosphere but good for the restaurant to be getting noticed and booked like this.

We love Violino. There is a lot of history with this place and we don't want to abandon independent restaurants in our community that are clearly making a big effort as Violino does. Our service was hampered by the surprisingly large turnout on Friday evening. The lovely and very comfortable dining room was buzzing and there were only two servers, so we applaud their efforts to provide attentive and customized attention to the many tables in the room. One of our dining companions ordered the shrimp pasta dish with Sambuca cream sauce and this was the standout dish of the evening. Adding a third server for the Friday evening rush would not seem too outlandish an idea, in our opinion. We'll keep coming back.

We were looking forward to an evening out with old friends - somewhere with a great ambience to be able to visit but more importantly we were looking for great food. This was our first time to Violino and we were impressed !! From the moment that you walk into the restaurant, it has a good vibe about it and smells heavenly. Service was professional and at the proper pace. The menu was unique without being to fancy and the presentation of the plates was beautiful. What a treasure to find this neighbourhood gem - perfect evening out for all of us !!

I would not rate our Experience at Violino Gastronomia as very good. We booked well in advance we were seated at a table for 4, which would of been nice if you did'nt want to sit near your guest. It was our First Time there, there was only 1 Waiter for the entire area and I'm not sure if he was also the manager ??? Needless to stay the atomshere was lacking. The food was o'k. Maybe a second chance is in the Future can't say for sure. Will try the Manor next door next time.

We were celebrating a lot of milestones in our relationship and the server made our night exceptional. The food was fantastic and we were greatly impressed. Ambiance was quiet and comfortable. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good night out with great food. For apps we ordered the bruschetta and olive tapenade; I really enjoyed the tapenade and he thought the bruschetta was one of the best things he'd ever eaten. I ordered the special pasta, black and white linguini with seafood in tomato sauce. The pasta sauce was a little on the sweet side but still really delicious. He had the lamb shank with wild mushroom risotto. The lamb shank and risotto were absolutely wonderful. The texture on the risotto and cook on the lamb was perfect.

This is second time I have visited in a week. Still love the calamari and the oil dip for the bread. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and it was such a huge serving - it could have fed 4 persons . I find that when I see that much food on a plate, it completely takes my appetite away!!! We had leftovers the next night- I added more cheese and sauce and it was delicious!! My husband had the veal chop and he said it was delicious!

We dined at Violino's for my fiance's birthday on the 20th of September. Our server was fantastic, and the food was delicious. We split the crab cakes and starter caesar salad for an appetizer, both phenomenal. He had the bacon wrapped filet for his entre which he said was the best steak he ever had. I had the penne papperdelle which was so fresh and full of flavor. For dessert, they brought out the tiramisu cake on the house for my fiance's birthday, to die for! Overall great experience and we will definitely return.

Violino is a great spot. I love the level of comfort and sophistication in this dining room. Richly upholstered hairs and real linens for lunch is a treat. The lunch specials are uniformly delicious and the server, James, was attentive, pleasant and efficient. The food was absolutely delicious - even decadent - to the point that I could have skipped dinner. This is one of the best value restaurants in the city, particularly when one considers the setting and generosity of the place.

The service was slow and a tad too casual. Waiters needed grooming. Food was fine but way overpriced for what it was, particularly the seafood starter. I had a $20 discount coupon which when I initially presented it appeared to be valid but when the bill came, it was not. This place needs a real professional uplift if they intend on marketing it as an upscale Italian restaurant.

We had a pleasant evening here. I would definitely go back for the calamari. It was delicious. Probably one of the tastiest I have ever had. Our waiter raved about the short ribs, so I ordered them. They were very tough and "not fall off the bone tender". I had difficulty cutting them. However, there were a lot of things on the menu that I would go back and try. Their dip for bread was amazing. Ambience was very nice.

This was my second visit to Violino- the first 2 years ago. The food was still very good with generous portions. The noise level seemed quite high and unfortunately I was seated beside the door to the outdoor patio and was hit frequently by severs and patrons and was very cool as the door was often left open. The only downside to a lovely evening.

Had the occassion to celebrate 26th wedding anniversary with my wife & adult children... the food was impeccable and ambiance of the patio spectacular. Our server was James, and from start to finish, he was extremely competent, frliendly and welcoming. After dining (I will say my "short rib" diinner was fantastic) we did not order dessert, however James saw to the delivery of a delicious tiramasu platter decorated with the message "Happy Anniversary" & accompanied by ice-wine to finish. All combined, server to kitchen well deserving and so tipped at 20%. Thank you Violino for wonderful dining experience.

They have a lot of choice in menu. We started with sea scallops topped with a pomegranate absolutely delicious. Our second course was Fettuccine there signature dish with flambe on table side, great flavour & great presentation. Upon the waiter advice we chose another appetizer, meatballs in a tomatoe sauce as an accompaniment rather than ordering a Secondi.Food was perfect for the evening, Excellent choice. We were than treated to a complimentary deserts. And to top it off the wine choice was excellent. Highly recommended!

This was an utter disappointment, service was terrible (non-attentive and at the end of service just dropped off the debit machine and walked away), steak was well done when medium rare was ordered (this should not happen on a $40 entre), pasta sauce (red pepper with boar bacon) was so heavy and strong that it as almost inedible and there was no reason for the boars bacon as you could not even taste it due to the base sauce, as well barely blanched, raw chopped asparagus stalks was a very bad choice in this sauce. Will not go back
