Diner Reviews
  • "We brought another couple with us to share with them our love for the Vintage Tavern. It was a nice quiet evening and the service was excellent. The menu this night was nice, but my wife and I both agreed the food was not on par with our previous visits. All combined it was still an wonderful evening."

  • "Our server was great but feel the restaurant was understaffed during our visit. The food was absolutely delicious....but the Creme Brulee portion was a little on the scant side for the charge. All in all was a relaxing evening."

  • "My favorite restaurant---the Southern Sampler appetizer is a must have, extensive drink list, terrific entrees, and homemade ice cream to die for!!"

  • "Vintage Tavern was well worth the trip! We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The service was great and the food was delicious. It was well-prepared. Kudos to the chef!"

  • "This place was snuggled in at the entrance of a nice quiet neighborhood. From the moment we walked in to the time we left, we were impressed with the decor(even all of the trophies in the bar area) The food was very delicious. The monkfish was awesome and the pork chop was one of the best I ever had. The only possible down side I could think of was the drive. We had to drive 45 minutes to get there, but trust me, I have driven further for much worse."

  • "Thank you for everything! The food & ambience was outstanding! Can't wait to come back again soon!"

  • "While the entrees aren't numerous, each is a chef's special preparation."

  • "Dined with a party of 8 on 21 March 2014 for Suffolk Restaurant Week. I've heard a ton about Vintage Tavern and I was not disappointed. Vintage Tavern's service is impeccable. Request to sit in Deanna's section. She anticipated all of our needs and was wonderfully attentive. I loved the dishes most of course! I recommend the seared rare tuna to start and the rockfish for your primary plate. Homemade ice cream is a treat! I hope to dine again soon. Thank you Vintage Tavern!"

  • "My husband and I tried this restaurant b/c it was Suffolk's Restaurant Week. We were very pleased with the entire experience. The hostesses were very friendly and greeted us immediately upon walking in the door. Our table wasn't quite ready (we were a little early for our reservation), so she told us we could go into the Tavern, have a drink and she'd come get us. We did just that and the bartender was very nice as well. Our waiter was awesome as well. The food was great and plentiful. Overall, this was a great restaurant and we will definitely return."

  • "I must say the food was not as good as the last time I eat dinner there. It was eatable but the mash potatoes did not have as much flavor and runny. Also the spinach was bitter. The flat iron steak was delicious. I was a little disappointed because that was the first time I had a complaint. Creme brulee was delicious also."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "All members of our party enjoyed the last evening of Suffolk Restaurant Week. The food was wonderful. The member of our party that had the Caesar salad was not happy with the dressing. But that was because he did not ask prior to meal."

  • "For this restaurant, we did what we've done at the last couple of restaurants we've selected; we went to OpenTable and selected a restaurant with great reviews that we've never dined at before. I think we were both pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was great, with dimly-lit rooms and an interesting English hunting lodge feel. The service was fantastic, and we were visited by the night manager and the chef during the course of the night. The food selection was an interesting array of "fancy" southern fare. We went with the "Taste of the South" appetizer which consisted of biscuits, ham, sage sausage, deviled eggs, pickles, and pickled beets. It also came with smoked apple preserves, which was delicious with the ham and biscuits!"

  • "I took my mother and a friend took hers, and we all had an excellent time. The rockfish dinner was the best I ever had, and everyone else enjoyed theirs also. This was our second Mother's Celebration for us both, and there will be a third."

  • "Everything is wonderful. Food, service, wine list. High end, at least for this area."

  • "My 2nd time at VT. The first was a wonderful mother's day brunch, which I highly recommend. For my second visit I made reservations for our 27th wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived we were treated as valued guests. Our table was a roomy booth, our server was attentive & pleasant. She did not rush us & answered all our questions about the specials & menu options easily. We ordered ribs (which I saw being delivered to several other tables that night) and the cider pork chop. Both dinners were delicious. The macaroni & cheese that accompanied the ribs was divine. A cheesy & dense center with a crispy top. The spoon bread was awesome, the best I've had out! Too bad we didn't save room for dessert, but we WILL be back soon."

  • "This place exceeded my expectation from the moment I walked in. The hostess was very pleasant and the ambience was amazing. The food was out of this world. I had the pork chop with Brussel sprouts which I asked to be over cooked because I like them soft and they came out perfectly. The drink menu was great and I asked about scotch and the waiter immediately brought me a scotch list. My waiter Tom was on top of everything all night I would even request him for my next visit. We also had another lady checking on us (maybe a shift supervisor) asking us how everything was going. My wife and I can't wait to go back!!!"

  • "We went for a birthday, and the experience was almost a gift in and of itself. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and polite. The server treated our seven year old just as he would any other guest, which was a pleasant surprise. The cocktails were exquisite, and the food - my word, I have never wanted so badly to pick up a pork chop bone and gnaw on it. Absolutely wonderful presentation, flawless preparation and amazing flavors - everyone enjoyed theirs so much we didn't want to share! The Taste of Southern Goodness appetizer is a sure bet and highly recommended. We will be back for more birthdays, without a doubt."

  • "our first visit. The staff was very helpful and we had an excellent time. A bit more expensive than some other places but you get what you pay for!"

  • "After being greeted at the door by a lovely young hostess, we were seated in the dining room at one of the very comfortable booths. Our server was Dave, but really,we felt taken care of by the whole staff. The menu is amazing- and the food did not disappoint! The chef even came out to our table to ask how everything was-WOW! My daughter really enjoyed one of the specialty cocktails from the bar, and the after dinner scotch list was fabulous. We will definitely return to the Vintage Tavern."

  • "Excellent customer service from the time we entered the restaurant until we walked out the door after dinner. Started off with the oysters and pork bellies which were excellent. Then moved on to an oyster soup while my wife had the ceasar salad, this too was well prepared with excellent taste. Chose a wine recommended by the waiter and we were simply delighted with his choice. She had stuffed flounder and I had the beef tenderloin cooked medium. Rarely doesn't anyone cook my steaks, tenderloins etc. To perfection but at vintage Tavern it was perfect. We will be heading back to this gem as it is only 10 minutes from our home. A wonderful experience."

  • "About the celebrate its 8th birthday, if you are in the area the Vintage Tavern in Suffolk, VA is not to be missed. Absolutely one of the very best restaurants in southeast Virginia."

  • "Heard a lot of good reviews. Prime Rib was very tuff and the only flavor was around the outer edge. Portions were very small on the Rock fish. The sausage and grits was good but very small portion."

  • "Great service. Wonderful atmosphere. Delicious food."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "From entry, the atmosphere was welcoming & warm feeling. The service was outstanding. Even though the choices on the menu, are not as large a variety as other dining spots, everything we ordered was done exceptionally well; in presentation, quality & quantity! So many up scale restaurants, are so down scale on portion. Not so here! Over all, it was a very enjoyable & relaxing dining experience!"

  • "Our 7th visit to this atmospheric, creative restaurant. Server was excellent: professional & knowledgeable but not intrusive. Roasted beet salad & crawfish salad were very good, as was the prime rib. Duck breast & leg confit was disappointing. 5 very small slices of breast and 2 slivers of confit mixed into the hopping john, with undercooked mung beans in place of the blackeyed peas. But that left plenty of room for dessert! "Brian's *new* favorite," a Guiness ice cream pie, was very good. The bread pudding was dense & dry; vanilla sauce and excellent salted caramel sauce helped. Of course, we'll return--for not only the usual favorites but also the always intriguing specials. (Prime rib now on every Thursday night!)"

  • "This was my second visit to Vintage Tavern. I really love their food. I had the tenderloin which was good but my partner had the ribeye which was amazing. We had a bottle of wine and desserts. I would expect a nice dinner like this to be expensive but not $225.00. I was expecting to drop some cash but not that much. So yes I would recommend this place to anyone who can afford it. It is really good. I lived the Blood Orange Chocolate Cake. Wow! A serious side note, I found our 75 dollar bottle of wine at Total Wine for 35 dollars. Seriously? The mark up is way too much."

  • "food was average. wine is way overpriced. have been wanting to go fo quite sometime. was dissapointed. perhaps because it was valentines day they werent quite up to snuff."

  • "We have dined at Vintage Tavern on Valentine's Day for the past 4 years, every experience has been wonderful. This year we were greeted warmly as usual, however when being sat down at our seat, we were put at a table where everyone walked pass, patrons, servers, etc. and no light, it literally looked as if a table was put there just to have additional seats to accommodate everyone. After being told that their was no more tables available, we decided to let the staff know that we would cancel our reservation and go somewhere else. However, they wanted to keep our business and moved found a table upstairs after a short wait. We were provided excellent service & because me & my husband do not eat pork were provided with a great alternative!"
