  • "We were offered specials of the day and we made the mistake of not asking the price, we ordered courgette battered flowers , capellini with scallops and veal, and other dishes from the menu. The food was unremarkable, just standard Italian food, but the bill was very expensive as they had charged us more than double for the recommended specials of the day than for any starter or main courses in the menu. We would not recommend this restaurant as obviously they take advantage of tourists and overcharge them."

  • "Good Food, inattentive service, cramped seating, even for 2 with a reservation. We were ready to order after sitting so long with the menus the hostess sat us with, when the server came over. Even though we told him we were ready to order he abruptly left to get us waters, and then came back and wanted to tell us the specials. There was nothing seemingly special about the list of dishes he rattled off, as long as the menu, except no description provided. The service continued well off pace and so slow that after we were done, our plates cleared, had ask for the check, there was still a huge delay while we waiting with the credit card in hand, and the server still seemed off guard when we had to remind him. Maybe an off night?"

  • "Enjoyed the visit. Very energetic environment. The background music was an odd high energy jazz fusion that we had to work to ignore. I prefer in a decent restaurant to ask for recommendations and was pleased with the wine and dinner suggestions. The food was great and service fast and competent. We had zuppa di pesce which was plenty for two people and a nice wine.. The only clinker of the evening was the hostess. When we approached the host stand, the young woman just looked at us. We had a staring contest for a bit until my finance' broke the ice: "Table for two, please." She then seated us next to the bathroom, which I mentioned was unfortunate, and again she said nothing and walked away. Training would be appropriate."

  • "We made a reservation for 4 people and had 3 of our party ready at our reservation time. But they refused to seat us until everyone was there. So we stood at the bar, which was crowded and right by the bathrooms. We kept on getting pushed around by waiters, guests, and staff but we had nowhere else to go. Once our fourth arrived, they told us in a really rude tone that it would be 10-15 minutes more before we could be seated. Our entire interaction with the front of house staff was verging on unprofessional and haughty. Honestly, the food's not good enough to warrant any kind of snark like they gave us. There are plenty of other (and better) restaurants in the North End. They won't get any more business from us."

  • "Great choice for wine lovers. Top selection of wines by region by glass and bottle. Overall pleased with lamb special and haddock. Only negative was the artichokes which were too overcooked and burnt for my taste. Also, had to ask for olive oil for the bread as the white bean spread was not a favorite."

  • "Just had dinner here for the first time. I am always a little hesitant about choosing a restaurant in the North End because we have not had great luck in the past. Most places are so tiny and cramped. Not here. Everything we ordered was fabulous. Started with the fried olives and the turkey meatballs. They were delicious. For dinner I had the Spaghetti Aglio e Olio and it was fantastic. My husband got the short ribs with polenta and my sister got Spinach & ricotta cheese dumplings w/ brown sage butter. Just fantastic. We split the bread pudding with caramel sauce. Amazingl. Can't wait to go back and try the other amazing dishes on the menu. A very comfortable place reasonably priced. I really do not think anyone would be disappointed here."

Noise level was high enough to make conversation at the small table a bit difficult at times. But, the quality of the food and the service were more than sufficient to offset the noise. We four would go again and recommend it highly."

  • "Vinoteca di Monica is a high end Italian restaurant in Boston's North End. It is a medium sized restaurant with seating for perhaps 100 people. We went at prime time on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was full and very busy. This is a restaurant for someone that likes fine food, particularly Italian food - a foodies restaurant. We chose fried calamari and a cheese plate, a chicken gnocchi and mushroom ravioli - all good. The dessert menu needs an upgrade. A large menu and wine list. Our total came to $150 with tip and paking. Spend time to walk around Boston's historic North End as it is charming. Enjoy a cafe and dessert there."

  • "I selected this restaurant solely from Open Table ratings and it worked out just fine! We happened to arrive early and they were able to seat us right away. I ordered the linguine pomodoro and it was out of this world! Our table ordered the San Michele wine and all 4 of us loved it. The service was good and the interior was nice with some exposed brick and ambience. Overall this restaurant was a great last minute selection!"

  • "Vinoteca di Monica is by far our favorite Italian restaurant in the North End. The food is always excellent, the wine list is great and the staff is exceptional. It's the spot where we always bring out-of-town guests and friends, and we recommend it to everyone! Stand-out menu options include the Lobster Ravioli (the best in Boston!), the Caprese Salad (the mozzarella is to die for!), the Tajarin with peas and prosciutto, the Linguine Scoglio (brimming with seafood), and mussels and fried calamari are both delicious as well. The Lobster Fra Divalo, if they have it on the specials menu, is amazing. We highly recommend coming here if you're looking for an upscale, delicious dining experience in the North End!"

  • "Outstanding service and great Italian cuisine mainly home style and fresh with large portions. Wine list huge and predominantly Italian and reasonably priced. Surrounded by dozens of Italian restaurants in the area, I have never been disappointed and this being one of the larger ones could easily accommodate our small group without feeling cramped or overheated. Absolutely no rush to the service and food served when table ready. Mushroom and goats cheese bruschetta and lobster ravioli to die for!"

Our waiter was average, not overly engaging and a bit hovering when it came time for the check. Regulars were at the next table with who he seemed to be more attentive. I have been to both Vinoteca and Trattoria di Monica and found the service more attentive and friendly at Trattoria."

  • "This popular establishment (and it was Saturday of St Pat's weekend) was hopping when we arrived a bit before our reservation - nevertheless, the hostess gave us the option of waiting outdoors or in the bar. Although crowded (the bar area includes a half dozen dining tables), the service was speedy. We were actually seated a bit after our reservation, but it was worth the wait - great appetizers (the mussels are wonderful) and terrific pasta! We also appreciated the bread - hearty and served with sort of a cheesy butter - a bit different and a nice change from oil (which I am sure was available upon request)."

Anytime I have guest from out of town I try and bring them to Monica's because the service, food, and ambiance cannot be beat. I truly feel it is one of the best restaurants in the city. The owner is a constant presence in the kitchen and in the dining area itself to ensure that his customers are satisfied with the quality of their meals. The caprese is a MUST try as the mozzarella is the best I have tasted in the North End. The constant changing of the specials keeps the menu fresh and exciting. Whether you are tourist visiting the city for the first time, or a local resident who is looking to try a new restaurant, I highly recommend Vinoteca di Monica"

  • "We were very excited about going to this restaurant based on what we read on zagat. In hindsight we probably should have looked at the menu to make sure it was going to meet all out needs. All my friend was looking forward to was some meatballs. When she inquired if there were other meatballs other than the turkey meatballs in one of the dishes the response from the waiter was "you are in an Italian restaurant, not an Italian American restaurant." We were offended and it set the tone for the remainder of the dinner. Needless to say we were very disappointed."

  • "Great for a kid-free night out with husband. Wasn't romantic but we were looking for a good meal before heading over to Improv Asylum. Food was delicious and unique. Definitely energetic feel, especially given small size for number of people there. My husband wanted to take their playlist home!   • "Three of us spent a lovely evening here. It's a fine North End restaurant, not one of the tourist traps. The food is very good and well presented. Our waiter, Fortunato, was excellent and very attentive. The wine list had something for everyone in all price ranges. The restaurant has a great set-up; one third sectioned off as the bar area with high tables and bar seating; the other two-thirds is a traditional restaurant setting. We dined in the bar area. There was Motown R&B music playing throughout the evening, which gave the room a certain energy. The more formal room was significantly quieter without music playing. Best of both worlds. A great night out."

  • "Booked this restaurant in hopes of tasting their Margherita pizza. I love the sublime taste of an authentic Margherita, a gem from Naples. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with their product -- a very inauthentic, sort of rectangle pizza with sections of orange cheese. The dough, sauce and cheese taste could have come out of a box in the freezer of a grocery store. Their linguini with lobster, which my girlfriend had, was pretty good, though nothing spectacular."

  • "We did Valentines day one day early to avoid crowds and allow early departure for skiing on Friday afternoon. This place came highly recommended by friends and it did not disappoint! The menu was excellent, we tried two apps and a couple of entrees. The wine list was extensive but our server was very good and helped us find something to complement our main dishes. The host took our jackets as well, which was refreshing. It was a slower night as we had a snowstorm that day and it was the day before Valentines day, but we will definitely be back."

Gracious bar tender complimented my Irish pronunciation of montalpuciano so got a big tip. Dinner was wonderful and the restaurant was more lively than we expected on a Tuesday night in winter. Great overall experience and we look forward to our next visit."

  • "The service excellent. The amibience very good. The effort excellent. But the food, not so much. The frisee salad was very nice, with hints of blue cheese. But the involtini was tough and dry, with unmelted hard cheese in the center, overpowered by a lake of butter. Lobster risotto was heavy, as were the gnocci. Instead of a nice taste of sage, again the gnocci dish was mostly butter, with no sage taste at all, and tough pasta. The squid ink pasta was better, but the flavors were off, made much too sour for the scallops by too much fennel. Finally, the bread was very dry and dense, while the white bean spread sadly had no taste. If you are coming for the service and ambiance, you will love it. For the food, you won't. Thanks."
