Diner Reviews
  • "The sweet potato flat bread and calamari were good with interesting flavors. We have the shrimp/scallop was good, but the scallops were undercooked. Another turn on the flat top and they were fine. The service was quite attentive and professional"

  • "Excellent food. Excellent service. Excellent management. One flaw is that they ran out of two items we ordered...a specific beer and a type of fish. They substituted another fish that I do not eat. I was only able to choose between two dishes for my entree because I don't eat certain shellfish or meats at all, and I wouldn't have chosen what I did if I weren't forced to. My food was very good though. They should just be a little more prepared for those scenarios."

  • "Restaurant week is busy and may not be the best indicator of a restaurant's normal performance, however the service we received at Vinology during restaurant week was unacceptable. They seemed only to be interested in turning over tables rather than making sure guests had a positive experience. A multicourse meal - even at lower restaurant week prices - should be leisurely! Instead our appetizers came out minutes after we ordered them, so clearly had been sitting prepared for some time. And with our appetizers and desserts our server took our plates before we had finished eating without asking whether we were done. We were rushed out in 45 minutes. Hopefully this is not how they normally do business but we likely won't return to find out."

  • "This was our first experience and we sure weren't disappointed. The wait staff was spot on with their service. They knew their stuff and couldn't have been more knowledgable or efficient. Their cheese plate was over the top delicious as well as their green salad, lettuce cups and eggplant dish. We came back after a concert for dessert and a nightcap and they were due to close in 15 minutes. But they treated us like they had all the time in the world. Next time we are in AA it will definitely be for a return visit to this fine eating establishment."

  • "Vinology is definitely one of my favs in the Ann Arbor area. I usually stay away during restaurant week as I prefer the full experience but we needed to go out and the menu enticed me. I was not disappointed. Both food and service were excellent. My hostess did plan to seat our party in the lower level but conceded that there were very few customers on the main level. Perhaps they were expecting more people but the main level stayed empty until we left. Overall they exceeded my expectations. This is truly an Ann Arbor gem."

  • "Delicious food. One person I our party did not order from the restaurant week menu and they were still able to get the food out together and timely. Our server was excellent!"

  • "Wonderful dinner but way too loud. We could hardly have a conversation without shouting at one another."

  • "The food here was very good! Went for restaurant week. They were trying out a new menu so some things were clearly a work in progress and the chef/staff knew that. My first course was the Cucumber Gazpacho, which was really good. The gazpacho itself was a bit acidic, but I liked it anyways. I really loved the combination of the grape salsa, the quesadilla, and the goat cheese. Heavenly. Wish I'd had more! The braised pork shoulder with the pineapple was delicious, but as my friend mentioned, it could've used a starch or veggie side since there's only meat on the place. The standout was the service which was awesome. They really wanted out honest feedback about the food. Overall, great experience!"

  • "My boyfriend and I always come here for restaurant week and special occasions. We love the wine list and the menu is always different. We have never had a bad meal and the service is great! Definitely one of our favorites"

  • "Dined during restaurant week. We chose items from the special menu for that week. All 3 courses were extraordinarily good and the server was exceptional in spite of being quite busy. We will return based on this experience."

  • "Good selection of menu items. Portions very large; share a regular entre. Works a bit too hard at presentation, which can end up being overdone. Heavy-handed drizzled sauce and olive oil on some items rather than a delicate touch. Good wine list, maybe a little pricey. Attentive and friendly service."

  • "Very good food, creative lunch menu, and a great value. The ambience is superb for a quiet, private lunch. Waitstaff is attentive and offered spot on recommendations. One of my very favorite places for lunch in Ann Arbor."

  • "Vinology is a foodie place with a neighborhood feel. The menu is delicious and creative with excellent use of fresh ingredients. The wine list is outstanding. Desserts are beautiful and original. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. For my son's 21st birthday we had them design a five course meal with a wine flight for his first legal drinks. Outstanding!"

  • "We were a party of eight and I can say everyone enjoy their appetizers, drink, desserts and entree's except one. She ordered the haddock and was terribly disappointed. To tell the truth it looked like white fish in a bowl of green soup. She also mentioned the taste was nothing worth the full portion she ordered. Everyone else did rave about their meals. I they will be back."

  • "Forgot our order. Blamed it on a big party downstairs. However her manager made up for it by not charging us for the waitress'a mistake."

  • "Vinology is a standout in Ann Arbor. The chef is fabulous at creating wonderful taste blends in everything from appetizers to deserts. Hate to say too much good because I still want to get a table."

  • "Great menu, very professional service, good food. I like having the choice of large or small entree. The small is a good portion and you can then have an appetizer and/or dessert."

  • "Our waiter (I want to say Kevin?) was very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing! Especially the duck!"

  • "The staff did not have the wherewithal to deal with their numbers on a Saturday night. We were waiting for friends to join us and sat at least 15 before we were approached for a drink order- in the bar area. The waiter was very nice and said that our waiter was overwhelmed so he would help us out. I ordered prosecco which was good . We ordered beets which were good. We decided it wasn't worth it to stay for dinner. Got the bill and I was charged for the most expensive bubbly not the prosecco I had ordered. I politely pointed this out to the waiter who said he would take care of it but implied I was at fault."

  • "Vinology is a great place for both intimate dinners and group gatherings. Everything was on-point: the food, the wine, the service, and the atmosphere. Our server, Scott, was accommodating and gracious. Vinology is definitely a place we will visit again. "

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch of fried green tomatoes with chevre, slaw and mortadella as well as the salmon trout (substituted for the arctic char) with an amazing miso glaze. HH is seven hours long so our Alsatian Pino Blanc was $4 woo hoo! Will definitely return as lunch time is a great overall value."

  • "Six of us had a delicious dinner here with food options that were different from the usual. The décor is warm and comfortable and there were several delicious sounding options on the menu that made it hard to choose. We had the cheese plate appetizer which exceeded our expectations with the unique combinations of flavors used to enhance the variety of cheeses. Everyone enjoyed their dinner selections and the half order was more than enough for a dinner. The ceasar salad taco was delicious and different. Service was excellent. We will definitely be going back for more!"

  • "Our group of 5 was made up of ages varying from 26 to 80, and each of us had a meal we that was special and delicious. Especially loved the Caesar salad in cheese taco shells, the spicy salmon, osso buco and strawberry shortcake. Delicious. We liked having the small portions and sharing."

  • "As a vegetarian married to a non-vegetarian, I often go to "regular" restaurants with a small selection of veggie items. Vinology participated in Veg Week, which I had just heard about. We went and my veggie meal was fabulous -- I chose a design-your-own entree by choosing 3 of 6 items, including a very interesting and good avocado cornbread, tomato and fennel served over quinoa, and roasted potatoes with peppers and sauce. All were tasty, unusual, high-end and nicely presented. We will definitely return. "

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at Vinology this week. We had been there previously and had less ecstatic experiences, but this was excellent. First, the wine - a California Pinot Noir - as selected by our waitress was wonderful and luscious and paired with our meal nicely. We then had several appetizers - scallop samosas, avacado mousse, beets with goat cheese, and a french cheese - all of which were scrumptious and in themselves could make a tapas style meal. We also had two vegetarians amongst us and the options for them were diverse and they shared the grape leaves for their main course which they really enjoyed. My friend and I shared the salmon which was tasty. We skipped dessert but would definitely come back to Vinology again!"

  • "My wife and I visited for our anniversary. We've now been two times and each time the service was as good as I've had anywhere. Being unfamiliar with wines and food is no problem; staff goes out of their way to help you make the best choices. As a vegetarian, I can't explore the entire menu but I've been happy with what I've had so far. It's not as good as a full-blown vegetarian restaurant in that regard, but the quality is very high. My wife and I both got the flights of wine which was a fun way to try some different groupings. Hi loved all three of mine my wife only really liked one of her three but we still had a fun experience. It is very pricey so we look at this place as a special occasion. We will definitely be back."

  • "We went to Vineology because my husband received a gift card from a friend. Not a great experience. We sat at our table for almost 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. I found the manager. The food wasn't good - a lot going on and every dish was very oily. The manager didn't even come back to check on us once he found a us a server. There are many better restaurant options Ann Arbor."

  • "The menu has become much more creative over the past year. I also appreciated the 1/2 entree option. My wife and I shared an appetizer and salad and each ordered a 1/2 entree. They say you can order the 1/2 entree tapas style but I would not recommend this. It would be too much food as a tapas plate. Overall lovely experience."

  • "My husband and I love dining here. The name tells you it has an extensive wine list, of course. What it doesn't tell you is that the menu is wonderful as well. You can make a three-course meal from the menu OR can dine tapas-style on the appetizers. All entrees come in two sizes, allowing you to scale up or down as you choose. Most desserts are sized for sharing. Enjoy!"

  • "Took the wife here for a special Birthday dinner experience. Food and service were excellent. Staff made a point of making her feel special on her birthday. Great recommendation on the wine from the private reserves. On the whole, a very pleasant evening. Would highly recommend to others"
