Diner Reviews
  • "We truly loved the food and atmosphere, and our waiter, Dino, was fantastic! I would definitely take a family, business colleagues or out of town guests."

  • "The lasagna and hamburger were tasteless. Only the garlic bread was good. Service was very slow. Well never go again."

  • "You're only as good as your last service Gordon Ramsey always says. And the last service I had at the Dubuque location was not up to par. I've been to both the Dubuque and Galena location and generally like the food very much. The $19.95 penne pasta on the chicken cacciatore daily special was mushy and overcooked and chicken non existent. Tiny glass of wine cost $6.50, overpriced. My wife's lasagna was good. Noodles al dente and filling generous. Noodles in the middle would be nice. Cheesecake, $6.95, was very good but the small slice cost more than wine. Wine and dessert portion sizes need to be larger or prices lower. The bill came to $49 for 2 people before tip, overprice for quality and quantity."

  • "We waited 25 mins for water. Waitress never brought us salad or bread....when I asked her she said because we ordered appetizers it threw her off and she forgot. We never ended up getting salad or bread the entire dining experience. Everything took a very long time...drinks, and food. Got there at 7:10 food didn't come until 8:40. We had movie plans for 8:40...missed them. Embarrassed I recommend this place to the other couple we were with."

  • "We were a little scrunched in and the price did not match the food as some of it was not that good. I was not happy paying $20 for fake crabmeat. If they want high prices they should have highend food. Some of the food was amazing though. It was an alright time"

  • "I love this place. If you are in Dbq. Go! The food is outstanding and reasonable. The building is old time charm. I am glad there is not one in my home town, not really, or I would weigh 400lbs. Go! Go! Go!"

  • "Vinny's food items are always terrific. I've sampled nearly every menu item and everyone is tasty, warm, and perfectly seasoned. Always kid friendly, wait staff is patient with children and even humorous. Just make sure that if you dine here in winter, you request a table far away from the door!"

  • "We went to Vinny's for my sister's birthday over the weekend. The atmosphere was beautiful. Nice, dim lights, pretty Italian themed decorations. The food was excellent and they had a nice selection of wines and drinks. Everyone in our group loved what they ordered. However, the restaurant was very hot (maybe this was because we were sitting upstairs). Also, our service had a lot of room for improvement. The waitress was nice, but very slow, not very thoughtful, and forgetful."

  • "Had a reservation for 8:15 for Valentine's Day and showed up 15 minutes early. Got seated almost immediately. Service was fantastic and the food was amazing. Definitely going here again soon =)"

  • "The restaurant has great ambiance, a little Italy feeling, like a mobster might be having a meeting at the next table over. The wait staff was nice. The Food on the other hand could be stepped up, my wife ordered the shrimp crab lobster pasta, and was a bit surprised to find the crab was imitation crab. My meal was the chicken parm, it was well cooked, however the Pasta was a bit wet and could have been strained better. Overall it was a nice dinner out. I would eat there again."

  • "My boyfriend and I stumbled across this gem of a restaurant this fall while on a weekend away. We loved the atmosphere the minute we walked in - there is so much to look at in this old building. The food is wonderful; we've had everything from soup & salad to a full pasta dinner with dessert, and have never been disappointed. Their food makes me want to dance. We live a little over an hour away, and make it a point to get there at least once a month. Highly recommended."

  • "the food was good but i had to remind the waiter that we ordered bread and coffee. never did get the bread. the noise was very bad, were very difficult to have a conversation. our table was apparently over the kitchen because it was very smokey. the tables were extremely close together . i felt like i was intruding on the table behind me. i might go here again with a group but not sit upstairs, will not go again as a couple."

  • "I ordered the seafood italiano. I thought was going to be a seafood pasta dish based on the description. It was not. The menu says there is lobster in the dish and when it came out there was a tiny lobster TAIL on top! I didn't ask for a lobster tail nor did I want one at all. My dish had all the meat separate in one dish and then a side of noodles and sauce in another. Im not sure why since the menu doesn't say anything about the noodles and red sauce. It does however give the impression that its going to be a pasta dish with seafood in it. My husband ordered the pasta with meatballs. His platecame out with a large link of sausage on top. No meatballs! There menu needs better descriptions."

  • "We were @ VV's to celebrate a family birthday. Our party of 8 included adults, senior citizens, and elementary school age children. I appreciated being able to make an online reservation. We were seated in the back room area-- private, which was great for our group as we had birthday cake for my (adult) daughter, sang to her & had presents. Food & service were great! Prompt service, excellent food--especially the salad & bread (both my favorites!)"

  • "We made reservations for 4 earlier in the week to celebrate our two friends birthdays. When we got there we were seated at a table next to a party of 30. Obviously the servers had a higher priority than Our little 4 top so we didn't not get much attention during our dining experience. The food was delicious when we got it. When we received our check, My friend whose birthday we were celebrating asked the waitress if they did anything special for birthdays and she said free ice cream. Luckily my friend asked otherwise we wouldn't have gotten that added bonus even though it was stated on our reservation! Overall great food, the timing with the large party and location of our table did dampen our experience a little."

  • "We visited Dubuque, IA for our wedding anniversary. Stayed at the Hotel Julien, and had a wonderful dinner at Vinny Vanucchi's. The restaurant was just a 1/2 block from the hotel, right in the vibrant downtown area. A nice combination! The lasagna and spaghetti and meatballs were both very good, and the garlic bread was outstanding! Service was excellent...attentive without hovering."

  • "Vinny's has great food but the place is absolutely freezing in winter months. Opt for warmer restaurants until spring. Wait staff was fine. The "good" rating is low because having people sit in a very cold restaurant is not great service."

  • "We love Vinny's in Galena and are glad to report Vinny's in Dubuque is a hit as well. The brushetta is amazing! Always a good place to go. Always feels special. They get an "A". The food is excellent."

  • "Everything was wonderful, except the weather outside was freezing. We were offered a table at the window and entrance door and had to be moved due to the draft. They graciously moved us to a table further away from that area, but it still was chilly. It was probably more due to the sub-zero weather, than what is probably normal temperature inside."

  • "I made reservations here for a special date with my boyfriend. The food and service was absolutely outstanding. However, we were seated at a table in the front room with the bar and close to the front doors. I was hoping for something a little more secluded and in a more low traffic area. Tables like that should be used for walk in customers when the rest of the restaurant is full, not for reservations."

  • "Our waiter was young and honestly do not think he was well trained. When asked about the Sunday family dinners, he was not sure . In fact the host did not know and was confused too."

  • "We shared a meal based on past reviews since we were traveling & couldn't keep the leftoves. It was the perfect amount and well worth the $5.95 plate charge for the delicious salad & bread. Loved the salad & dressing. The bread was extra tasty. Would definitively return when we are in the area. The on-line reservations worked great!"

  • "Great Italian food at moderate price with quaint/rustic Italian atmosphere. Perfect for taking out of town guests or for a special night out. Great food with a wide selection."

  • "Went with a party of 6. Table was ready on time. Good service at the bar. Calamari was pleasantly tender and tasty. Ran into issues with the entries. One was served cold. Chicken marsala was tough with thick heavy sauce. Pasta dishes average at best. Server forgot to bring the dinner salad and bread until reminded well after the entries had been served. We asked for the dinner bill to be divided into 3, but the math proved too difficult for our server. Nice atmosphere, but overall food and service were disappointing."
