Diner Reviews
  • "This was our first visit to Old Vinings Inn in yrs. We were seeking a special place for Easter Sunday Brunch with visiting family. Menu included roasted leg of lamb (a must for hubby on Easter), roast beef, eggs benedict, turkey sausage, scrambled eggs, shrimp & cheese grits, scalloped potatoes, chicken w/ risotto, salmon w/ lemon & capers, collard greens(the only non starch vegetable) deviled eggs, peel & eat shrimp, pearled pasta salad, fruit salad. Desserts: carrot cake, caramel brownie, chocolate truffles, mixed berry cobbler, chocolate covered strawberries. Coffee & juice were extra, which was a surprise.vCould add non-starch veggies & a green salad. Porch was open-cool & breezy. Staff pleasant. We thought it a good choice for Easter. "

  • "Talk about a special place to make memories over a meal and you have the Old Vinings Inn. Combine an incredible view on the porch with a simple, but well attired menu and you have the perfect recipe for an unforgettable brunch on Sunday afternoon."

  • "Old Vinings Inn is a sweet little piece of Vinings history. The staff are always friendly and the food is perfect. Nice bar upstairs for after dinner drinks - terrific live music a couple of night a week......good wine list and the bartender knows what he is doing!"

  • "Service was casual but very good, food exceptional. The restaurant is located on a very busy thoroughfare and free parking is tough to find without dodging cars. The restaurant has parking on their lot but it is mandatory valet. It may be normal in Atlanta to have to pay to park in a restaurant's lot, but they should tell people ahead of time so they can decide. I'm also wondering if they used MSG in the risotto or veggie dishes as my dining companion has issues with MSG and got ill afterwards. It definitely was not a germ or food prep issue as I shared some and I was fine. Would still recommend this restaurant as an exceptional good menu, reasonable prices and nice ambiance."

  • "Food was good. The eggs benedict for brunch hit the spot. The shrimp po boy was okay not great. More shrimp on the sandwich next time."

  • "I had a wonderful brunch with my girlfriend for Sunday brunch that was really terrific.. Clearly this restaurants new management is hard at work creating a new reputation! The food was great and it was a wonder the place isn't booked up and overflowing. I've lived in nyc for years - and this place would compete even in nyc. The ambience on the giant outdoor porch was open, beautiful and inviting on the young spring afternoon. Enjoy..."

  • "This was a calm dining experience! The service could have been a little more attentive and we were alone in one section of the restaurant. We definitely could converse and the food and beverage was wonderful!"

  • "My wife and I found the restaurant on the internet when looking for the top Atlanta restaurants. We were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived to valet parking to our after dinner drink upstairs in the Attic we were impressed. The wait staff was knowledgeable and helpful. We sat outside and enjoyed the great spring weather. The food was delicious. When we visit the Atlanta area again, we will definately return to The Old Vinings Inn."

  • "OVI is one of our favorite local places. Consistently very good food. This was a challenging night as one of our four received the wrong food, they were out of wine and the dining area was very loud due to another large party. The staff did a nice job trying to overcome these hurdles. We will certainly be back."

  • "I made reservations with my girlfriend for Old Vinning Inn. It was close and the online menu showed that there was a vegetarian offering; which is always important to us. However, when we got there and looked at the menu the item was not there. The waiter overheard our discussion and offered suggestions. The head chef then came out and discussed with my girlfriend what kinds of ingredients she enjoyed. He then offered to make something especially for her. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by that offering. When the food arrived, I was again impressed with how good it looked and tasted. I anticipate visiting Old Vinning Inn again."

  • "Nice food - I had a wonderful fresh trout perfectly cooked. The owner greeted us and came by to ask about our dinner - a special touch. We went early so it was quiet. There was another larger party in the same area but the noise level was low. The dining area with the windows was lovely."

  • "The brunch menu seemed a bit lackluster to me. I got a kale salad with chicken. It mostly tasted like vinegar. The price was reasonable. The bread basket had one kind of bread: biscuits. They were pretty good. The location was super convenient for me at the time. Service was friendly without being particularly swift."

  • "Saturday we came here for brunch and was pleasantly surprised. I had not been here in several years due to previously poor experience. But I was pleased to learn that there is now new ownership and chef and it showed. The weather was nice so the porch ambience here in Vinings Village was good. We had a great waiter that was clearly experienced and with a friendly personality. My eggs benedict were cooked to perfection. The roasted potato side was okay, but a little heavy handed with the garlic. The homemade biscuits and rolls were warm and tasty. My friend's off-menu request was willingly granted. I'll be back...to try the gorgeous salad the was served at the table next to me."

  • "The Old Vinings Inn is charming. Great ambience. Four of us dined together. Everyone's food was excellent. There were some interesting but tasty items on the menu. My wife loves shrimp and grits and she felt these were the best she had ever had. My short ribs were perfect. Our companions salmon was, likewise, perfect. We tried the 3 for $15 dollar desert special and the pumpkin creme burlee was great."

  • "Being close to downtown Charleston, SC it is extremely difficult to find restaurants when we travel that live up to our expectations, but here at the Old Vinings Inn not only were they met but they were far exceeded. From the moment we walked up we were greeted by a warm friendly host who made us feel extremely welcome, the server was equally attentive and friendly, the ambiance of the area flowed throughout the restaurant, and the food was out of this world delicious. All in all I give it a 5 star rating and recommend it highly to anyone who enjoys fine dining."

  • "While my wife and I thought we were seated upstairs in the empty bar area because it was "cozy", we quickly learned that we were seated there because we probably looked least likely to complain. Within a half hour of being seated, the bar filled up, the bathroom door was an annoyance(being located literally one foot behind my wife's chair), and the two service people assigned to the second floor (including the bartender), could not keep up with the demand. The food was decent, except for dessert that was thrown in the microwave because it sat waiting for us too long, but it could not salvage the night. Perhaps on special occasions the restaurant will only allow reservations for parties they can seat properly."

  • "The service was superior. Our server and Mark, the restaurant manager, were not only attentive but also observant. I made a joke to my friend about getting a smaller meat portion than he received. I didn't know our server heard me, but in a few minutes, the manager brought an additional large meat portion to the table. What a pleasant surprise. :-) We were celebrating my wife's birthday, but we didn't mention it to our server. He saw the present from our friends, asked about the occasion, and comped the dessert for my wife."

  • "Been a fan of OVI for 20+years, but tonight was very disappointing. New owner and chef might be the problem. Attentive manager and waitress, but food was ordinary, with small unremarkable serving and terrible presentation. Veal & Short Rib Meatloaf with peppercorn (overdone) gravy, whipped potatoes, celery root & apple slaw @ $22 definitely underperformed. Didn't taste the short rib connection. Thin, tasteless mashed potatoes, slaw slathered in mayo, served with one small slice of meatloaf. Reallly? This comfort food dish needs garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. And don't skimp on the meatloaf. The food was an embarrassment. Wonder if chef is a culinary trained professional? With restaurants like SOHO, OVI needs to step up their game."

  • "It was a fine experience. The Maitre'd was excellent. The food was fine, as was the service--no complaints at all. I do wish there had been either no music at all, or music appropriate for dining--quiet, and soft. Instead, there was the noise from an in-house group from the bar; not conducive to digestion or conversation. Otherwise, great work!"

  • "This was our first visit to The Old Vinings Inn. We were seated in the furthest back area of the restaurant in a back room, in a corner. There were open tables (same size) in the nicer dining area with more ambiance but we were seated in a very closed off area. This was not a good way to start our dining experience. The food was nothing special and nothing spectacular, just okay. The apple strudel dessert was almost inedible as it was made with sour green apples. I do not recommend it due to the extreme tartness. I had the fried chicken, the serving was ample. We found the slightly sweetened rolls quite good. My husband did enjoy the fried green tomato appetizer. We would not make the trip back to Vinings for this restaurant."

  • "We had dinner reservations at the Old Vining Inn. Good food selection and ambiance. Great service and the manager came to personally talk with us to see how our evening was going. I was surprised by the children at the table next to us, but as a parent that was ok. We plan on going back and heading up stairs to see a band in the future - that is more our style. Get there early though since reservations are not taken for seating upstairs and it is a small space. Nice restaurant that I am glad we were able to get reservations for a fun night out. This is a close non-chain spot that we recommend."

  • "Went for the first time on Valentine's Day. Food was severely overpriced. $18 for lobster bisque, small bowl two pieces of lobster. Fried green tomatoes were hard and had no flavor. No ambience at all. No pictures on the walls? Very strange. Very disappointed."

  • "My husband and I were looking for a place to celebrate Valentine's Day with our best friends and decided to try the Old Vinings Inn. What a great decision. From the start to finish, it succeeded our expectations. We will be back."

  • "We made reservations weeks in advance. When we arrives the host acted put out that we were on time. He seated us at what was clearly a make shift table beside the isle at the end of the bar. The patrons of the bar had no choice but to stand near our table. The waitress seemed to forget that we were there from time to time. The atmosphere was that of a bar even though we had made reservations for the restaurant. The foo was ok but not good enough to overcome the atmosphere. The bartender did apologize."

  • "We went for valentines day dinner and I know it was packed but there was no room to stand and wait and the service was horrible. My food came out cold and I waited 15 min for a steak knife. I might would recommend going back on a less busy night. Our server stood there talking to another table and we could not get attention all night."
