Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant is next to the Westin Hotel and several office buildings. The courtyard is very nice and the restaurant is also very well appointed. We had a business dinner and all three had the Chilean Sea Bass, which was very good. Our waitress (Shawna) was very knowledgeable and personable. Very nice, reasonably priced dinner ($160 for 3, with wine). Highly recommended for locals and for business travelers staying in the area."

  • "I reviewed the menu on line and was excited to see a dish I had not had in a long while. When I went to order was informed it was not available. I only chose this restaurant because of that dish. We ordered and what we got we could have gotten anywhere. Nothing special. As this was celebrating a 91st birthday, I was hoping for a much nicer experience. Besides all this, the menu was very limited and again nothing special. Will not return or recommend!"

  • "Menu refresh was great. Love that they are carrying a selection of VA wines. This is great anytime and I go for any occasion, sometimes just because I want to just enjoy the food and wine. Staff is always friendly and make me feel special."

  • "I had several meals at Vinifera over the weekend. The food was inovative and well-prepared and the restaurant had a nice ambiene and a professional statf. Needless to say, it had a varied and excellent wine list that complemented the food."

  • "When you want to have a conversation while dining this a a good place to go. The Sea Bas is wonderful."

  • "The Vegan/ Vegetarian option on the menu was only salad! The restaurant should atleast have a veggie burger and fries option. Or anything signature without mean."

  • "The Sea Bass was great. The wine selection was outstanding. The Serive was great. This was my second time to enjoy the food here. Will return."

  • "Vinifera is close to Reston Town Center but away from the Town Center traffic. It is great for a quiet romantic get-away. The food was excellent. I had the Chilean Sea Bass which was seared to perfection and totally delicious. My wife had the Mediterranean Salad which was wrapped with Prosciutto, very delicious as well."

  • "We chose Vinifera to celebrate a professional accomplishment of my husband's. We have an infant and a toddler so our date nights are rare and need to be a sure thing. We were not disappointed! We arrived during happy hour and sat at in the bar area. The happy hour prices were great and we loved all the little appetizer choices we ordered. Delicious! After, we headed over to the restaurant area for dinner. Again, the food was amazing and our table was perfect. Our servers greeted us with congratulations and had a complementary glass of champagne waiting. They did a great job at helping us celebrate the occasion. We will definitely be back and recommending to friends as well!"

  • "We decided to give Vinifera a try based upon the positive reviews. The layout is typical for a hotel restaurant. We went on a Saturday night and the place was dead. Ambiance is a a bit small cafeteria; a bit stranded on an island. The service was efficient but uninspired. You asked, you received without much guidance along the way...and a little late from the bar. The food was very good and the presentation was a pleasant departure from the modest surroundings, although what you would expect for the price. Our meals were cooked to perfection. The wine pairings were spot on. It's apparent that the chef is skilled, but the experience would have been better in a more inviting place. We'll try again when the outdoor tables are available."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner, specifically because they have small plates and good wine. However, the bar noise carried throughout the restaurant and made it very hard to hear across the table and have conversation."

  • "The sea bass was great and the service was outstanding"

  • "I go here mostly because it is quiet and intimate and for the wine (you can't screw up something that is bottled). The most delicious item on the menu is the sea bass, but it is server on a starch (risotto) that was so-so. The risotto balls (appetizer) tasted like glue. I wish they would make spanish style croquettes with béchamel--would go down better. The server managed to interrupt a vibrant conversation to push their agenda for starting to take our orders (that annoys me no end). The lobster cohibas (so named because they look like cigars) are expensive and not that good--more like lobster flavored spread put inside. I'll keep going back because of the ambiance but will stick to simple things and the wine."

  • "Food was very good. Nice place. Restaurant was out of a number of items we tried to order on a Sun nite. Server shd have warned us rather than go thru the effort of ordering one item after another only to be told.. Sorry."

  • "The small plates are fun - so many seafood and veggie choices. This is a great place to go for its interesting menu. The noise level is moderate so it is easy to have a conversation. Good wine list. We sampled rabbit, baby artichoke stuffed with goat cheese, calamari steak and duck wontons. All were tasty."

  • "Everything perfect but location of table. Felt like I was in the isle. Dining room was nice but felt like it was open to whole hotel lobby. Make dining room more private and it would be perfect."

  • "My wife and I went here for Valentine's weekend. We were impressed with the wine list and even more impressed with the five course Valentine's meal. The food was excellent and my wife and I enjoyed each of the selections. I would highly recommend Vinefera for Reston area locals looking for a fine dining experience with an abundant wine selection."

  • "I have been here 7 or 8 times and the food is always VERY tasty! It is prepared to perfection and unusual combinations. The wait staff saw it was my friend's birthday and brought a beautiful plate with fudge cake, pistachio ice cream and carmelized banana slices, blueberries and strawberries. What a perfect surprise! Happy Birthday was written on the plate in chocolate!"

  • "We found this restaurant on Open Table when searching for a new and interesting restaurant. The write-ups were great and we found them to be true. We're not big meat eaters and we found a wonderful selection of vegetarian and seafood options. We only ordered from the tapas menu, but would definitely try some of the entrees next time. The restaurant is difficult to find as there are no signs visible along the road. Vinifera is located in the Westin Hotel next to a Sheraton."

  • "Hummus was disappointing -- it lacked flavor and texture. Burger and fish panini were both okay but neither was great. Note to the menu producer: "Panini" is the plural form of the singular "Panino." So, it's fine to have Panini as a menu category but the individual order should be a Panino. In all cases, the word "Paninis" does not exist in either Italian or English -- it just looks foolish."

  • "My friend and I came here to celebrate a special occasion on a Saturday night. Our waitperson was excellent in terms of service, attentiveness and explanation of menu items. We loved the food and appreciated that we had a selection of glass size for various wines, which allowed us to taste a variety of reds and whites. We were not rushed and thoroughly enjoyed our experience."

  • "This was my first time eating lunch at Vinifera. The food was excellent, and the prices were reasonable. Always strong on service, they gave us a nice couch to have a discussion with attentive service throughout the meal."

  • "I was looking for a quiet place to take my wife for a light bite to eat. This was the perfect place and on top of that we hit it on a perfect night. It was Reston restaurant week so they had a special menu with a three course meal for a great price. We also opted to go with the "flight of wines" to correlate with our menu choices. The food was great, especially the lamb dish and the wines matched perfectly."

  • "Great food and wine again at Vinifera last night. Disappointed they had a special menu for restaurant week and not the usual tapas menu - which is what we go there for - so we just ordered a few appetizers and one entree and made our own tapas. Every dish was excellent and the server really knew all the details about the food and their great wine list. This is always our favorite stop before or after flights at Dulles. Wish we lived closer and could go all the time."

  • "It was restaurant week. We were greeted by the hostess with a warm smile and taken to our seats. Our server (Mel) was very polished and informative. My wife ordered a cocktail she didn't like, it was replaced without any fuss. We both had soup (Butternut Squash and the Mushroom) - both were excellent. My wife ordered the sea bass - it was perfectly cooked; the sauce was light and complimentary. I wanted to order the duck - but they were out; I had a steak with whipped potatoes. The steak was cooked exactly to my order."

  • "Although it locates in the Westin hotel, it is a separate building itself attaching to the main building, great ambience. The care of our hostess was thoughtful. Our appetizers were super, great taste!!!!! But it' gone down from there. Our entries were average, nothing special. My husband ordered dessert sampler, it wasn't that tasty that he didn't finish 2/3 of it. My apple crisp was ok as an apple crisp, nothing spectacular. I like to come back and try their little samplers on their website menu, I would think it will be great taste considering how much we like our appetizers ( try their regular dinner menu as well ). Overall, a nice date out with my hubby!!"

  • "Loved the food! The flavors and the presentation of each dish was fabulous. We both picked the prix fixe menu for Restaurant a Week. Their pear cocktail is also kind of amazing. Service was present, and aware but not overtly so. We also weren't rushed to leave. It was great!"

  • "Hi have been to Vinifera on a couple of other occasions and it is consistently delicious and I love the atmosphere. If you are a wine lover, they cater to you and will provide different tastings before you get it right. I always enjoy my time here."

  • "Took my 85 year old Aunt to lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. The wait staff was very friendly and sensitive to the situation of lunching with an older person. I have booked this restaurant for an attorney I worked for because of its proximity to Dulles A/P and he came back with rave review which is why I chose it for my luncheon."

  • "We went to Vinifera late on Christmas as my brother's flight didn't get in from New York until about 8:00 pm. The restaurant was very quiet and there were only a few other tables occupied. The service was lovely and the food was wonderful. Our family has a few vegetarians as well, and it was easy for them to order a myriad of small plates to share so they didn't have to miss out on anything. I personally had the sea bass with risotto and it was amazing."
