Diner Reviews
  • "I have only eaten dinner here on one other occasion and was slightly reluctant to try it again. I do like the bar at this tavern and we have frequented it a few times since it opened. Our first dinner was a little erratic at that time. Our waiter was just completely overcompensating and would not leave us alone. The food was ok. I really prefer to order seafood when dining out, but almost every seafood dish here is super heavy. Bacon is in almost every seafood entree. This time I had the Bolognese with Tagliatelle and it was very good. My husband ordered the Gnocchi special which had lobster in it. Not a lot of lobster and only claw meat. It was $34. I think that was a little high for this type of restaurant and for the portion size ."

  • "My husband and I don't get out much, but managed this weekend. We chose Vinebrook Tavern, having had a fabulous meal there about a year ago. We ordered much differently--but we were just as pleased. Our meals were pleasantly satisfying and absolutely delicious--if not a little surprising. We are not wine connoisseurs, but we both enjoyed the recommendations made by our server."

  • "Service very slow. Took about 20 minutes before drinks came and about 45 before any food came. Server was passive aggressive and pompous -- not a relaxing or satisfying evening out which is unfortunate considering the prices. We should have gone somewhere else."

  • "Vine Brook Tavern is my new secret gem for group lunches or dinners. The groups having dinner there were greatly impressed with the wine and dinner selections. And the thought of driving into Burlington was not an option for them. Thank you."

  • "Had a great time at Vine Brook Tavern. It's a much needed spot in Lexington. The bar area is really fun, the wine list is awesome and the food is delicious! The charcuterie board is great as well as the calamari (so different!). The salad with farro is amazing. I wish I lived closer as I would definitely be a regular here!"

  • "We have found this place to be really nice for an evening out, both for dinner and just drinks and desserts. Food is really good, service normally great."

  • "Was looking forward to our dinner here with friends, as I had heard good things. The interior is nice (and the space is large) - it has high ceilings with beams, etc. Our server, though, came with an attitude - condescending, know-it- all demeanor. You'd think he was serving at Lutece in the 80's - not in Lexington MA 2014. The food too left something to be desired. It was only ok and the prices were high, as were the prices for the wine. Would I go back? Not sure - liked the atmosphere & good dining is hard to find in the Concord / Lexington area (perhaps they are taking advantage of this?). I would go back for drinks."

  • "I have been to the Vine Brook Tavern previously with my fiance, we sat at the bar, had amazing service and food. We were excited to bring 6 of our friends on Saturday. We had a great table upstairs, however, our server Linda spoke so low that you could barely hear what she was saying, never introduced herself. She asked that we order our dinner at the same time as our appetizers and salads due to the fact that it would get "busy" soon. She left many of our drinks empty and our food then took a good 45 minutes to arrive after our salads and apps, not sure what the rush was to order. She never checked back in after bringing our entrees and asked when clearing our plates if the steak was cooked ok, too late if it wasn't. Disappointing."

  • "from vegetables red meat to fish choices, the chef prepares a variation that wows the senses. Cauliflower like you have never had it and scallops with parsnips are quite the pairing."

  • "As a vegan, I was able to find something good to eat. The arugula salad and grain (farro) salad with dates (hold the cheese on both) were very tasty . There are a number of sides (mushrooms, sweet potatoes, etc. ) that would be good. There are no vegan entrees as such, but the salads were very ample. It was an enjoyable evening."

  • "Had out of town coworkers visiting and Vine Brook was perfect - the food is great and is also local. So it felt very "New England" for our guests. The location is fabulous. Parking was tough and the service was a teensy bit slow (really it was great service but the food came a wee bit slow out of the kitchen. Not a problem because we had yummy drinks while we waited and our waiter was attentive). All in all VIne Brook is fabulous!!!"

  • "Friendly service, interesting salads and a really tasty quinoa meatless balls on spaghetti squash. Town parking lot is close by."

  • "Been to Vinebrook several times and it is consistently good. Nice selections, fresh items. Love the clam chowder, the brussel sprouts side was great, good tagliatelle dish, and others like the mac and cheese side, and the steak. Creme Brulee for dessert and a sundae, shared, can't beat it. Nice lively atmosphere but, in one of the upstairs booths and the tables spaced far apart, plenty of privacy for talking. Wine list is good, not exceptional. Definitely one of the go to places in Lexington"

  • "and can't think of ay other place to go to - the menu was difficult to read because of the font they used. The portion sizes for some of the entrees were too small but the biggest issue I had was the service. The server was too aggressive and would rudely interrupt our conversation (each time)."

  • "We have been to VBT many times since it opened a few years ago. It is consistently great. Varied menu, many specials each night, and affordable choices for kids. Love the atmosphere, in an historic Lexington building that used to be a Post Office and a school house back in the day. Lively bar on the first floor and I've heard they will start having live music on a semi-regular basis. Our favorite local place!"

  • "Lobster mac 'n cheese had abundant lobster and light on the cheese - excellent. Filet minion great on flavor but high on price for small piece; extra large baked potato with a question of there being a veggie side or garnish. Deserts leave a lot for the pallet. Overall a great place to dine. Nice change from the former Italian environment. We will return to try other food selections."

  • "I have enjoyed Vine Brook Tavern's menu and bar selection, but I was very disappointed by their service on Saturday night. The appetizer was quick, but drinks were slow and then they took well over an hour to deliver two standard entrees. We watched more than one table ordering, being served and then finishing while we waited, so possibly the kitchen really botched our order. In any case, they seem to be very short-staffed on their busiest night of the week, and they know it. Their host offered an apology, but nothing more. TL;DR: If you go on a Saturday night, stick to drinks and appetizers."

  • "This place was a great find and the food is just to die for. It's not far from where we live and I always look forward to going there. I am a craft beer lover and my wife is a wine drinker, and they had a terrific selection of both. They also have a very creative drink menu with house-made concoctions that everyone will love. Every time we have gone it has not been too busy so I hope this review doesn't change that. The only reason I gave them 4-stars on the food was that they cooked my rib-eye wrong once. I highly recommend this place if you're a craft beer fan, mixed drink fan, foodie, or just love to go out for a nice meal. Check. It. Out."

  • "We had to wait a little longer than we expected for our food. There was too much noise. The prices were high for lunch. That said, we would go back and reccommend this restaurant. Not only was our food excellent but the people at the tables around us were raving about their food. The wait staff was friendly and tried to be accommodataing when we told them that we had to get to a movie but the place was so crowded that it was difficult for them to hurry our meals."

  • "The food was good except for the errors the kitchen made. Did not supply the correct sides, some cold, gravy on meal ask for on side. Waitress said the chef was very busy so we could not get what we wanted. At the start the service was awful but I think it was the waitress. She was totally out of touch with service and what the kitchen could or could not do. Gil Napoleon Burlington MA"

  • "We saw a profile of the restaurant on you tube and the food looked great. So we gave it a shot. The owner greeted us at the door and we were seated. Service started out great but we think he had too many tables to handle. We had to wait for drinks as did a few other tables. We also ran into three groups of people we knew! Note we live 20 miles away, that must say something! The menu was great but that made it hard to choose a meal as everything sounded great. (Not a problem) The beer selection was great and the waiter chose a very good beer for my taste. The food was great! But I wish I was told the price of the specials! I was in shock when the bill came! We would go back in a heart beat!"

  • "there was nothing great or even good about this restaurant: no available parking, snide waiter, not much on the menu we liked, what came was so-so, dark and old interior. Why is this place still operational?"

  • "The food was delicious, but the casual tavern atmosphere (booths, radio music) didn't match the expense and quality of food. (veal chop $42. 3 scallops.$23)"

  • "We had family in town to visit & didn't know where to go since it was Valentine's day. We were happy that we could make a reservation & it's close to home. Everything just worked out perfectly. We arrived early & went to the bar. They did not rush us to take our table & were ready for us when we moved to the table. Our server was very helpful & pleasant, never too much or too little service. The food was very good, brown bread was awesome, the onion strings a great snack, my salmon was perfect (though I was not in love with the couscous, personal taste), burgers cooked perfectly as were the delicious fries. The chicken dish was good but the bones made it hard to eat. The blondie sundae was amazing. It was all very relaxing and just right."

  • "I like this place a lot. It's as close to a hipster got spot as you're going to find in Lexington. I like this place for special occasions for dinner and swing by the bar for a quick dinner after work with friends. The tables are very close together so it can be tough to have a private conversation; I just go on the later side to minimize crowd. The food is so good. A little salty, but really rich and yummy and big portions. It's a great spot in lexington, bringing that city vibe to the suburbs."

  • "Due to horrendous traffic, we were just about 20 minutes late, but the staff at Vine Brook Tavern made sure that we were seated shortly, and were more than forgiving, which made the service deserving of a reveiw greater than outstanding. I am not going to mention the food, for I believe it can speak for itself, but if I were forced to descride it I would say it was simply splendid. I will definetly be coming back soon."

  • "The appetizers were quite good: Hummus and Shrimp; corn bread; calamari frittes. Entrees were not impressive: Flank Sirloin just wasn't that tasty or tender; pasta Bolognese was pretty good. And the food is not inexpensive. We were lucky to have an outstanding waiter, who was just attentive enough, knowledgeable, but not intrusive. And the management were extremely nice to seat us promptly for our 6 pm reservation even though we had made it on the wrong date."

  • "My husband and I always look for vegetarian options. I chose the quinoa meatless balls with spaghetti squash, marinara sauce and basil pesto.. It was excellent. My husband ordered Winter grain salad which had among other things wheat berries, dates, almonds and pecorino cheese along with a side of French fries. He was very pleased. This was our first visit to the Vinebrook Tavern and would certainly return."

  • "My husband and I met another couple for dinner. The food and drinks were great and fit our varied taste (vegetarian, pescatarian, and carnivore). The waitstaff was prompt and very knowledgable about the food. The noise level was a little loud around the bar, but we were given the option to sit in the quieter upstairs area and chose not to."

  • "I came here on Saturday January 25th with about 7 friends for my birthday dinner. The food was very good and it was a very nice atmosphere but it took almost 2 hours for our food to come after we ordered it! Ahhh!!! I don't know if it was because I had a large group or because it was busy, but we waited a long time for the food to arrive. Luckily we weren't in a rush. But the food was very good. I recommend the mac n cheese."

  • "I have been to this restaurant several times and this last visit was disappointing. The pork shanks which were previously excellent were too vinegary and slathered with too much sauce. The salt cod croquettes were not very good. Wine by the glass is very expensive."

  • "Went here on Friday evening with my two (adult) daughters. It was recommended by a friend. Food was very good and the atmosphere was great for us -- not too quiet and not too loud. Our waiter was very good, but as the second floor filled up, we waited a little bit longer than we would have liked between dinner and dessert. Once we finished dessert, we had to wave someone down to get our check. We thought this was kind of odd because during the course of our meal there were so many different faces who showed up to serve a course, clear a course or fill our water glasses."

  • "Vinebrook Tavern is a very welcome addition to Lexington's paltry dining choices. The food is well prepared and the service is usually excellent. There is really only one problem with the restaurant--and it's a big one--the rooms are too noisy. I understand that the bar area, downstairs, is inevitably going to be hopping. But since there are two floors, there is no reason the second couldn't have acoustical baffling to make the dining experience up there a calmer one. We were practically shouting by the time the restaurant was busy, as was everyone else, and not because people were having a riotous time. There is no excuse for this, even if such a restaurant attracts the "still can hear but soon will not be able to" crowd."

  • "So first time at the Vine Brook Tavern and really enjoyed the meal. The ffod was very good - we ordered the Sweet potatoe bisque, Clam Chowder, Chacuterie board for apps - all very good. Mains were - Lamb sheperds pie, bolognese and the sirlion frites - again ALL were very good, only one desert - creme brulle - just OK. We sat upstairs in the back (not great) - the lights were the only thing that bothered me really they keep dimming back and forth the ENTIRE meal - but if this is the only thing bad with the place its a real find."

  • "We have been wanting to come here since the place opened. We finally got around to it and we were not impressed at all. The service was SO SLOW! My water was empty a few times. We got the cornbread and a harvest salad to start. The corn bread was the best part of the meal sadly. We didn't get served their usual bread since we got the corn bread, and thats fine. The harvest salad was okay at best, and way over dressed. My husband ordered the steak frite and I got the halibut. My fish was dry and was so under seasoned I had to use the salt they leave on the table in a bowl, not once but twice. And for me to say that, that's nuts. I'm not a fan of a ton of salt but it seemed the fish didn't come with ANY salt at all. Was very disappointing."
