VinciMothers Day Dinner 2013Vinci is our neighborhood go-to spot for a nice evening or a family special occasion and they never disappoint. Somehow they keep it fresh and focused. Our most recent meal was a stand out, everything was cooked to perfection, came out hot and fresh. The flavors come through clearly but never overwhelm, the sauces are seriously layered with taste but never heavy. This last time our server was new but knew the menu and wine list thoroughly and did a stand out job. The guys had pork chops, I had to stop them from licking their plates! The grilled shrimp kabob was tender and just the right seasoning. Each of the side dishes were just as good as the main entree. The scallops were awesome. Wish I had room for dessert. I highly suggest Vinci's, you will not be disappointed. We thought half of our party wasn't going to make it due to traffic and a tight schedule before the show, so we ordered and began eating. Then the rest of our party showed up unexpectedly and our waiter managed to speed up their meals and slow down ours so we could all have a nice relaxing meal together before the show. It was quiet (a Tuesday night) the setting was perfect for intimate conversation while dining. The duck and sirloin were great as I love the attention to detail Vinci places in their meals. Not only i the restaurant itself charming but the food was incredible. As a lover of mushroom risotto, i can honestly state that their porcini, asparagus and duck risotto was the most delicious risotto i even tasted. I left not a morsel. Everyone else was equally satisfied. And the bread is fresh baked and way too good! Consistant excellent service. Best option if you're going to any of the nearby theaters, such as Steppenwolf or Royal George. They'll always get you out on time. They were attentive without being intrusive, made good suggestions, and adapted perfectly to the pace of my chatty meal with a friend. The waiter asked upfront if we were going to the theater and made sure we were on time. Had a nice meal - a fresh, simple romaine salad with creamy dressing. I liked the fact that the salad had lots of dressing but I suspect some would not. The pasta with ragu sauce was thick and tasty. The sauce complemented the fresh pasta. A sizable portion but not overwhelming. A classic tiramisu finished off the meal with a capp.

This was our fourth trip to the restaurant as they have a great gluten free menu with delicious Italian fare. Neither of us had been there previously. Vinci is a small, charming restaurant with very good food and excellent service.
