Diner Reviews
  • "Took my boyfriend (who loves meat but not a huge pasta fan. His beef & sausage fettuccine special had TONS of meat; pasta was a disappointment as it was thick & gummy. Ravioli sampler was better (although not very warm), but very rich - 1 variety was soaked in pancetta grease. We had a Groupon, and liked that there weren't many restrictions (except dessert). The menu is extensive, but prices seemed a bit high, even for Willow Glen. I really wanted to like my dinner but I have enjoyed pasta more at Willow St, Fratello's, Il Fornaio & Bella Mia. I have been for lunch once before and it was a much better value/better tasting. We did like the ambiance/hostess - I believe she served our main courses & gave descriptions of each ravioli."

  • "Why didn't I find this place sooner. What a great neighborhood place. Classy without being stodgy, family run business. Fantastic food, and great wine."

  • "Had not been there in some time, but will return soon. Food was great (had scallop entree), friendly informal atmosphere with very good service and fairly priced. Very pleasant surprise!"

  • "Amazing food prepared by Italians who have taken the best from the past and coupled it with new food options. It can be a bit noisy on Friday and Saturday nights - be aware. Service was superb as was the very reasonable and satisfying wine list pricing. You will not be disappointed."

  • "The menu has a lot of variety, and all the pasta is homemade. The service was great. There was live music in the bar which made it a little loud but also a fun change from other restaurants in the area."

  • "We decided to celebrate our 38th anniversary by going to a new place, so we decided to try Vin Santo. They honored us with 2 glasses of complimentary champagne to commemorate our special celebration. My personal favorite dish of all was the appetizer that had calamari, shrimp, broccoli & zucchini, all fried perfectly, with three dipping sauces. The tips of the broccoli were so crispy and delicate, the they disintegrated in your mouth...yum! Our waiter was sweet, answered our questions and helped us with our final decisions to order chiopino and oso bucco. He checked back periodically to see how our meals were and if we needed anything. We will be returning soon to try the many other items on the menu and we highly recommend Vin Santo."

  • "My wife and I want to Vin Santo to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. While dining we were already plotting our next visit. Great food, my wife had the ravioli sampler and it was fantastic. The wine list had a few choices of our favorites. The service was efficient without being rushed. We cannot wait to return."

  • "The food was excellent. We went using A Groupon. The domestic Chardonnay available with the Groupon was disappointing so I was glad I didn't pay full price for it. The full price of the meal was way too expensive, so would not go back without a discount. The acoustics are poor so the dining room was extremely noisy. Would only return with discount or for very special occasion."

  • "Best Italian restaurant in Willow Glen / South Bay...My wife is Italian, and we`ve been together for 30 years...She has cooked thousands of home prepared meals...You can imagine, it is very hard to sell Rose on what is authentic, or well prepared Italian food. I would like to congratulate the Chef at Vin Santo, for creating some of the best Italian cuisine I have ever tasted...Authentic, yet up to date with a signature flare that leaves you wanting more each bite. Well done, I will highly recommend Vin Santo to everyone truly looking for some of the best prepared, best tasting food in the whole Bay Area...Thanks, Mike Brumfield"

  • "Had not been back since the current owners purchased the Restaurant. Sadly it was way to loud. Could not have a conversation with anyone at the table. Food was so so. Would not go back again."

  • "We had been wanting to try this restaurant and will definitely be going back. We were originally put at the table by the kitchen and it was a very cold night and asked to be moved. The hostess moved us to the bar to wait and gave us a glass of sparkling wine while we waited for another table. When seated our waitress was knowledgable about the wine and made some great food suggestions I had the sampler and my husband had the salmon. everything was perfect! Will definitely go back."

  • "First time eating here; on Valentine's Day. We were seated quickly, table was set and ready to go. They was a special menu for the day so the choices were limited. The service was decent, but since they were full, it was a bit delayed taking orders for drinks and food. The server brought out the standard appetizers everyone received, which was good though my pregnant wife was unable to eat the vast majority of it (raw fish, etc). She had the seabass and i had the lamb shank. The food came out so quickly, we did feel rushed to dine, pay and dash. Portions were large and tasty though polenta was dry. The bread pudding was just ok though the creme brulee was delicious. We would go back on a "non-holiday" to try the regular full menu."

  • "They ran out of some food items on the menu. Roasted vegetables included broccoli and potatoes. The potatoes were more like thick French fries. The dessert we ordered was cheesecake, which was still frozen in the middle. It was topped with blueberries that were soggy. Meaning the blueberries were not fresh. The garlic bread was cold. We had to ask for fresh garlic bread. The service was good and the musician playing was excellent! I did use a groupon, but even for what I paid for the discount, I do not feel the quality of food being served is worth the price. I would not recommend this place to dine at."

  • "My husband and I went here for a rare night out from our 3 kids. We hadn't been to this restaurant in a few years. We had the most wonderful dinner. The food was amazing! I started with the Eggplant Parm appetizer. It was delish! Then I got the Salmon that was a special for the night. It was cooked with mussels and had the most flavorful sauce. It ended with bread pudding and I was in heaven. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Vin Santos always has good service and food. We went for Valentines day and there was a set menu reasonably priced for the occasion."

  • "The menu was inspired; famous pairings started the evening as an antipastini tray. I could have eaten a tray of these clever treats and been very satisfied with the variety and flavors. This was followed by antipasti; my husband and I shared the lobster ravioli and the asparagus wraps and were in heaven. The entree (I had the chilean sea bass with a blueberry beurre sauce that was a taste sensation) was a generous serving so we packed that up for the next day and enjoyed the key lime pie and chocolate fondue which was a very satisfying end to an amazing culinary experience! Special thanks to Sharlene Pala, owner and manager, for the champagne welcome that started out the night."

  • "Background music was a solo guitarist and it really added another layer of romance to the evening. The meal began with small tapas-like snacks; the stand-out was the sauteed mushrooms. First course - I had the Aphrodisiac Salad (!) and hubby had the sausage raviolis. Both were excellent. Main course - I had the braised lamb shank, and hubby had the steak & lobster. The lobster tail was very small but tasty, and everything else was close to perfection. Our wine was 2010 Martin Ranch Winery J.D. Hurley Zinfandel, and it was scrumptious. I did knock off one star for the very small lobster tail, and also my two favorite deserts (creme brulee and bread pudding) were sold out. All in all, another memorable Valentine's Day."

  • "Vin Santo was a great choice for us. Two couples with young children trying to stay close to home, but have a romantic dinner away from the kids. It was close, great service, super menu choices for Valentine's Day. I would go back again!!"

  • "We reserved a party for 5 and subsequently increased to 6 via phone. When we arrived, no record of Open table reservation OR phone message update. However, a table was ready immediately and we had a great celebration of a 93rd birthday for the birthday girl. the food was great and dishes were large enough to share. i would go back but I am not sure about the Open table process for the reservation"

  • "The food was terrible! Service was slow, wine was average to poor...oh and dessert was 50/50. We shared the crime brûlée - the espresso must have been put in the cooler while still warm because there was condensation on it that made it runny and a horrible color (though basic taste would have been ok). We will not be going back!"

  • "The restaurant's ambience was nice and we felt that the service was good. The wine we chose was also good. We ordered an appetizer which was fried calamari with some vegetables. It was a greasy plate with little taste and did not look appetizing. I ordered the sirloin steak for my entrée and I felt that the steak also had little flavor for the price. I felt the steak was not the quality (USDA Choice) quality that I buy at Costco for a sirloin steak. It was something less. The dessert (Tiramasu) was the same with little flavor. Large quantities, but unless flavor and quality is there that matches price I won't waste my time going back or recommending this restaurant to others."

  • "A year ago my husband and I had no plans for Christmas Eve and we're looking for a place to eat. We found Vin Santo to be the only restaurant open! We didn't have a reservation but they fit us in and we loved it! We split a creative salad special. My husband had a pasta special and I had the pasta bolognese. My family says I make a good bolognese but the Vin Santo sauce is sooo good. We have returned several times. The restaurant is lovely and quaint and the service staff is always friendly and helpful. They offer a value meal which allows diners to choose an appetizer, entree and dessert for $39.00 which is great. On the whole Vin Santo is a wonderful restaurant and I love going there for a fine meal."

  • "I'm afraid I wouldn't recommend. Atmosphere ruined by too loud top 40 hits. Hostess not that great. On the phone the whole time. Food too salty. Little other favors present. Dishes had great ingredients but poor execution with little subtlety."

  • "My sweetheart and I joined some friends to celebrate a birthday (not ours). Food was OK but not what I expected from the prices and reputation. What really ruined the event for us was the entertainment. The performer, Pasqual, had a beautiful voice and made sure we knew it. He sang full arias into the microphone at the top of his voice to the point that we could not hear each other talk at all. My sweetheart went to him and told him that it was beautiful but could he please tone it down. In a huff he said, " I will be leaving you alone in 10 minutes" she responded, "so will we". I will not be returning."

  • "We got there early on a Friday and the place was virtually empty, and quiet and conducive to the conversation we were having but as it filled up it got noisier and noisier to the point we could hardly hear each other. The waiter was good, efficient but overdid the checkins --- interrupting our conversation more than I thought was necessary. My risotto was "ok" .. not the best nor the worst I've had. Tho the chicken in it was very dry. Ordered the duo creme brulle for dessert. The vanilla was good. The espresso flavor was bland. Don't think given the variety and quality of other restaurants in Willow Glen that I will be back soon."

  • "My husband and I go to Vin Santo any chance we get. The food is awesome and the people that own the place make the dining experience that much better. Very warm atmosphere!! You could not find anything on the menu that is not truly outstanding."

  • "We dined on an array of foods from calamari, shrimp, broccoli, and zucchini, then moved to spinach salad. Finally wanting to try a buffet of entrees we chose the wild boar dish and an array of ravioli, this was perfect for the pallet and to get a idea of what this restaurant offered. For a first time here I was impressed. I guess the hostess could of smiled more, but who cares about smiles when you have such amazing food!"

  • "First time here. Service was excellent, food was delicious, staff was very friendly. A bit noisy as the eating area is wide open, but not obnoxiously so. We would definitely go back Nice place for a get together with a few friends."

  • "Not what it used to be. Food was over cooked, over salted and presentation was sloppy. Wine glasses weren't even up to Ikea standards. If you do go, ask for one of the better wine glasses they reserve for guests of the house. This one has been taken off our list."

  • "We decided last minute on a NYE dinner and we were not only blown away by the food and service but the atmosphere. We felt like we had walked into an old friends home. The owners were a hands on couple that made sure everything was perfect."

  • "We have been to Vin Santo on numerous occasions and recall it to be a great place for a quiet/romantic place to have a great meal. Food was good as expected. What was not expected was the 15+ table that made it barely able to have a nice conversation. What didn't help was the one man band that evening. To the restaurant's defense, it was New Year's Eve, however, it was noticeable that other patrons felt the same way. If Vin Santo is now the place to be seen and have a boisterous time, that's great for them. If unfortunate that it's no longer the place I would return to for a quiet romantic dinner for those special occasions."

  • "My partner and I had the 3-course tasting menu. Pasta apparently made in-house. Only disappointment: inauthentic Caesar Salad; should always be made from scratch, preferably tableside. Instead, this appeared to have a commercial "Caesar Dressing" with a couple of anchovies thrown over a split head of romaine. Portions were generous; two days later, we still had some left over for lunch."
