  • "From the minute you enter the beautiful dining room, you are wowed by the surroundings. the service and the space. We had the tasting menu that was so expertly designed and executed. Each dish seemed to surpass the one before. This is what Fine Dining is all about. It is simply the best dining experience I have had in New York for a long long time. It is not a cheap night out but believe me, you will feel that you have had value for money when you leave. So good to eat in a place that truly knows its stuff. There are not enough superlatives for this place."

  • "brought my husband here for his birthday and we did the 6 course tasting menu. they actually added 2 add'l courses for us. our service was fantastic and the food was delicious. great presentation and our waiter addressed our questions when presenting each course. would highly recommend this place to those who enjoy doing tasting menus. we will definitely go back. the room itself was nice b/c the tables were not on top of each other. tables lit up from underneath, which was a complement to the clear serving plates used for each course. highly recommend for a special night out. "

Orchestrating each and every need was expert staff, warm and inviting, helpful and attentive ... the beautiful female sommelier was exceptional in her knowledge and abilities to help us decide on the exact burgundy -- both white and red -- for both our palates and cuisine. Clearly one of the best vintage wine cellars in Manhattan. Presentations of each course were artful, delicious and most extraordinary in their combinations of flavors. First Class in all respects."

  • "The gallery is in an amazing room in the Palace Hotel which has ornate woodwork, ceilings and décor dating from 1882. An incredible setting with Richard's amazing food. We had the eight course tasting menu (with several amuse bouche added) and it was an outstanding culinary adventure. Expertly executed dishes, a very attentive and pleasant staff and incredible surroundings made this a most memorable evening in New York City."

  • "I was intrigued by this venue as the room was a magnificent wood paneled rich room and it had huge black and white canvasses of famous 50's actresses. It was a great mix and provided some great subdued lighting. The menu was excellent and had some wonderful variants on well known dishes. the Foie Gras was a brûlée with fresh citrus fruit - winning combination; the scallops were amazing and served on a daring bed of greens that could have destroyed the dish had it not been done right. It's definitely on my list of places to return to."

  • "We were delighted with our experience at Villard Michel Richard - the Gallery. His restaurant, Citronelle, had been our favorite there for years and we have missed it sorely. Delighted to once again see Bugula caviar and Surf & Turf Mosaic on the menu. Now if he would only bring back those short ribs! We also appreciate the excellent and reasonably priced wine list. Black cod is the best and most sophisticated preparation we can remember. The sea bass was perfect: crisp skin and moist firm meat. Wagyu tho flavorful was not as tender as expected and cooked a degree past rare, as I had ordered it. Wish we did not have to order dessert, would prefer 3 courses. Gorgeous/elegant rooms, love the lit tables. Excellent, attentive service."

  • "We ate in The Gallery (NOT the bar area) in an amazing restored 1880's gallery room. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable about the history of this old NYC mansion as well the fabulous entrees. We had a 4 course prix fixe (there is also an 8) and the lobster "porcupine" wS one of the several highlights. Everything was delicious but the desserts, especially the Raspberry Vacherin, we're outstanding."

  • "Great experience! Beautiful place, delicious food and attentive service but very expensive. I've been to a few gourmet restaurants in NY and I can't say I had a "so so" dinner in any of them. Villard also makes the list as remarkable but I don't think it deserves to be more costly than any of the others I've been to in the past. It wasn't more special to justify the price difference. But I did have an amazing dinner. Highlights were foie gras brûlée and black cod."

The menu is a choice of three We chose the eight course tasting menu Every course was a delight from the penguin caviar thtough to the Colorado lamb Each serving was just the right size and had a unique blend of hogh quality ingredients to be judged a masterpiece The pacing of the course was perfect. The service was generally professional though at it was not as attentive as one might expect"

  • "Compared to the best restaurants in Paris and NYC, the food here is just okay. Excellent scallops and soup; but all the others courses, including dessert, were just okay. Some, like the short ribs, were inedible. I think of the great restaurants, and so far this isn't one. The tasting menu approach ensures a high price tag; but with food of this quality, there will be tourists only and not a lot of repeat customers. Not this customer, at least. Food good; service outstanding. Not worth the price."

  • "This has always been one of my favorite rooms in New York, but I was disappointed with the underlighitng on the tables and the large random movie star photos leaning on the walls. The service was good, but the food was routine and not worth the price for the prix fixe. The menus at comparable restaurants offer more variety and range of flavors at a better price. The night we were there, one of the restaurant owners or managers was at the table behind us. He was very distracted with how a large table of local celebrities was being served, so he was repeatedly getting up and barking orders at the servers. This was very distracting, as was the ostentatious way in which he had the truffles served to his guest, a chef from out of town."

  • "Dinner at The Gallery at Villard Michel Richard was a beautiful, very special experience. The tasting menu (6 or 8 courses) was filled with dishes that were delicious and captivating. Pasta with white truffles, caviar, perfectly prepared lamb, squab and a quail egg were just a few of the notable components of this lavish meal. The wine list is superb with a long list of appealing French wines. Wine Director Justin Lorenz is so helpful and gracious! The room is gorgeous and tables are widely spaced to allow for intimate conversations. The service was attentive and welcoming. This is a perfect new addition to the NYC dining scene. I am so glad that Michel Richard has come to New York City! Anyone who loves beautiful food will be too."
