  • "Everything was excellent had the prix fix salmon tartare was fabulous and the branzino was perfect. The description did say eggplant caviar not purée but I will let that go. Husband had crab cake all crab perfectly seasoned and fried chicken that was juicy and crisp. Wine list was very good and the pour was substantial. BUT the profiterole!! I won't even say just get it and eat it don't share!!! Will be back ASAP"

  • "We had frequented Michel's restaurant in Washington and always had a great time and great food. We were so excited to see a NY opening and were thoroughly impressed. The food was wonderful and the service outstanding. We will definitely be back."

  • "Le Villard bistro vaut le détour pour son décor rafiné et son service impeccable. La carte présente un large choix, a prix raisonnables. Les plats sont bons sans être excellents, c'est donc un très bon "bistrot". Tres belle carte des vins."

  • "Want a fabulous, cozy but refined and consistently delicious place to bring your colleagues from work that is sure to impress them? Try this recently renovated gem at the NY Palace hotel. There are essentially 3 dining rooms. One is the super lux restaurant serving tasting menus operating under the high-end "Gallery" moniker. Then there are two similarly sumptuous rooms for the "Bistro." The food is superb and bc no one has really discovered this place yet (just renovated in the Fall) you can easily get last-minute reservations for large groups. Perfect for after work dinner/drinks. Excellent variety of French and Continental cuisine. Highly recommend this place."

  • "Extremely expensive with a Frittata costing $21, 2 poached eggs and toast $34, and coffee $8. However, that was expected and the food was great. What was unexpected was the poor service. Was rushed to order then the waiter didn't come back. Coffee refills were very tough to get."

  • "After a hard day of travel and having to wait for our hotel room, the staff welcomed my husband and I with our 9 yr old . The restaurant is beautiful inside and the food was exceptional. Although, I would not say the restaurant is "kid friendly", I would say they were warm and appreciative of our restaurant friendly, foodie, son. We enjoyed our lunch so much that we ate a early dinner there the same night. It met and exceeded all expectations."

  • "As the only restaurant in the Palace Hotel I would have expected a little more. The food was good and needless to say but I will anyway very pricey. Service was slow. Perhaps it was the kitchen that was slow but something sure was. The wait staff was friendly but average overall again for a location of this magnitude."

  • "The Villard Michel Richard Bistro is the sister restaurant to the prix fixe Gallery restaurant in the same venue at the New York Palace Hotel. The setting is a tremendous classic Mid Town Manhattan mansion at 50th and Madison now integrated into the New York Palace Hotel. In this grand space, Michel Richard delivers his outstanding cuisine in the tradition of DC's Citronelle which closed last year because of building damage after almost 30 years of serving movers and shakers in the nation's capital. Start with the whimsical cheese puffs and end with the signature Napoleon or the spectacular Celebration Cake. In addition to the great setting and outstanding food you can also expect impeccable service from the Bistro's experienced team."

  • "I dined at Villard Michel Richard at lunch by myself during New York Restaurant Week. There was a prix fixe menu as well as all the regular dishes being available. I chose from the prix fixe menu and found all three courses of a very high quality and full of flavour but not overpowering. Despite eating three courses at lunchtime, I didn't leave feeling uncomfortably full or heavy, which I take as a good sign. The scallops in particular were a standout. Perfectly cooked and not overpowered by the rest of the plate, allowing their natural sweetness to shine through. Service was very efficient and pleasant. The interior is a delight - the walls and ceiling give it a luxury feel. Highly recommend."

  • "The food was excellent and very tasty with a wonderful presentation. The service was just the right combination of attentiveness without being annoying. The room I dined in is I believe called The Lounge". It has a high ceiling, tall windows and is elegant."

  • "We were here for Restaurant Week. The space is amazing. Great for photos. Our table was a bit odd. It was in a nook behind their wine racks. I was pretty sure, we were going to get forgotten. Service was slow. Somewhere between 20-30 minutes after appetizers, the manager and waiter came by to apologize for the delay of our main course. They said that there was a wedding party on the other side of the room. About 5 minutes later, they came by again to apologize. Another 5 minutes and our food arrives. Dessert was another 10 minute wait. They apologized again. They do include a 15% service charge on the bill (20% for groups 6+). Food was fine. Nothing particularly interesting. Food for the unadventurous."

  • "That said, after reading Open Table reviews, I reconsidered and went for Restaurant Week with two of my friends. The three of us were in sync that we made the right decision: our selections were unanimously delicious (my salmon tartare was exquisite), the space is far more beautiful without the contemporary mix added by Le Cirque, the noise level was moderate and allowed us to have a conversation without yelling, and it was a delightful experience during which we never felt rushed. Beyond Restaurant week, the have a prix fixe lunch for $37 (if I remember correctly). We will definitely return. It is a civilized respite that is not at all stuffy - as well as a moment to savor NYC istorical architecture and decor."

  • "I went here for restaurant week. It took 30 minutes for appetizer, and it took 1 hour for entree.... but.. i was like whatever. However,My food taste like burn, like, bitter, sour, and weird. I've been many french restaurants, but it was the first time that the food taste like that bad. Also my friend's food was fine. So I asked the waiter and he said that he will check and let me know but no one came to our table and I couldn't hear anything. So I asked the other waiter and he called manager. And I explained everything to manager, and he only said Umm... like his face was like so what?... I really didn't expect much, I just wanted him to say I will talk to that waiter or just sorry. He didn't say anything. THE WORST SERVICE. NEVER GO."

  • "I love their Gallery, everything is perfect, and the Bistro is as perfect, this is my favorite favorite restaurant. Like the title said, nothing more to say about this place."

  • "The lentil soup appetizer was fantastic. Tasty, smooth with chicken dumplings. Great start to the meal. I had the branzino for entree while the others had the braised short rib. Everyone was quite happy with their choice. Service was attentive. The chairs are a bit uncomfortable. If one leaned back, you were too far from the table. Unable to move chair closer for comfort. Had to sit with no back support for the meal."

  • "Not going to lie I was a bit nervous about going here with my friends. But the wait staff was SO friendly and welcoming, for such a fancy place they were very humble and sweet. Would def go back again for a nice dinner."

  • "Beautiful space. We were kept waiting and manager bought us a drink, nice. We ordered a glass of Cabernet, and they poured a 2008, $19 per glass, good, but we would have been ok with house cab, unless that was house cab?"

  • "I went here for Winter Restaurant Week at was not disappointed. The food was delicious and not too overwhelming for a lunch. I had the Salmon Tartare appetizer that was stellar, one of the best I've had. I was a little disappointed that there were only 3 scallops in my entree, but I thought they were delicious. My friend, thought they were a little salty, and I did understand her thought - but I like salt. The chocolate verrine dessert was beautiful and I definitely loved the dark chocolate layer because I'm a dark chocolate lover. Overall, it was a very classy experience and the decor is ornate, a bit much for my taste, but I definitely understand the appeal to some. I'm more of a casual person though. Probably great for a business lunch."

  • "I read the mixed reviews & decided to take a chance on this restaurant for restaurant week lunch. We were greeted warmly & made to feel welcome by staff. The salmon tartar was fresh & delightful, the hanger steak was beautifully flavorful & perfectly prepared. For desert crème brulee was innovatively plated & delicious. All this in a beautiful room that transported us to the court of Louis Quatorze. Lunch was in the Bistro not the main restaurant, but you felt as if you were in Paris. Maybe it took a while to work out the kinks, but our experience here was great."

  • "I had a pretty good experience my first time dining at Villard Bistro except for the fact that no one offered to take our coats when we arrived. In addition, I asked for the rest of my meal to be packed up, and they did not include the small bit of mashed potatoes I left on my plate. There was enough left I was sure they would include it but to my disappointment I had to eat the rest of my entree without the side. I would still most likely come back to dine here in the future because the service was otherwise friendly and attentive."

  • "The food was very good, albeit a bit precious. The first courses, lentil soup and seared tuna salad were exceptional, while the main courses were a bit overly worked and insubstantial. One boneless short rib garnished with 2 baby brussel sprouts on 2 tablespoons of potato puree felt a bit minimal. The creme brulee was delicately creamy and delicious. The price of a single espresso at $8.00 was highway robbery and the included 15% gratuity on all checks regardless of the number of guests, was presumptuous. The service was overly efficient; no sooner had my partner put down her knife and fork when a waiter appeared to clear her plate while I was still eating my main course."

  • "This elegant restaurant is set in an old mansion and a wonderful place for dinner. Food is excellent - we had seafood pasta and fried chicken with green beans to die for. We don't drink, so even though we had a small meal our waiter, in the fact the entire staff, was gracious making us feel like honoured guests. Definitely a highlight experience."

  • "The Bistro area was very pleasing environment and the decorative motiff gave a warm feeling. Service was excellent, and well-timed. The food had excellent taste and presentation - Fried Chicken plus the Goat Cheese Cesaer Salad. Desert was nothing out of the ordinary, but was tasteful and presented nicely. Great place to celebrate a special occasion."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. We had a delighful adn knowledagble server. While fried chicken mat not sound fancy, the Bistro's version is outstanding and well worth it."

  • "Room absolutely beautiful! The wait staff knowledgeable, efficient, and very personable. Food simple and yet incredibly creative. Each dish had its own distinct flavor and special appeal. Our third visit and each one a memorable experience. I would most definitely recommend for special occasions but don't wait for a celebration as prices by NY standards are certainly fair and totally below the norm."

  • "We ate in the Bistro. Beautiful room. Very attentive service. In fact, too many people attending, without the kind of personal attention or coordination I'd expect. Sommelier was not there, and given the enormous wine list, was definitely missed. The waiter did not really know wines. Food was fine, but lacked character. Universal fine French hotel food. I expected something special from the great Michel Richard, whom I think is one of the best cooks in America. But this wasn't really special. Or especially interesting. Just very good, not great. Seems like a perfect place for a business meeting where the business is first, and the stating is merely complementary...and quiet."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised to have a great selection and did not leave hungry for our restaurant week lunch. We had the tuna salad, hanger steak and wonderful chocolate dessert...all great and would recommend highly. I wish we were seated in the beautiful room with all the paintings but we were seated in the bar area, which was lovely also."

  • "The restaurant is beautiful. Very large and yet feels intimate. The staff is exactly as you would expect in an elegant, high end restaurant: pleasant, always on hand and very helpful. I had the "tuna salad" which was a fancy nicoise - it was amazing! and then the branzino (without the vinegrette) which was equally amazing: flavourful, perfect portion. Definitely a must try!"
