Diner Reviews
  • "The food was good, although the kitchen did mix up the entrees/sides, and the waiter was pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately, what stood out about our visit was our inability to be checked in and seated. There was a growing line (about 12 people long when we joined it) inside the front door, waiting at the desk to be seated. The hostess kept answering the frequently ringing phone, and not helping or acknowledging the line of patrons who had actually come to the restaurant in person. When she was able to seat the first couple in line, another gentleman rushed up to answer the phone, and also did not acknowledge the people in line. It took about 12 minutes to be acknowledged by the hostess, and we had a reservation."

  • "Visited Village Tavern on 4/12/14 with a party of eight including two children for my brother's birthday. The evening started off right with $5 martinis, there were many to choose from which was great. Moved on to the appetizers which were fried oysters, sashmi tuna, and crab dip. All of these were very good. Our table had a range of different entrees including the grilled tilapia, seafood pasta, shrimp and grits, crab cake sandwich, and tavern pizza all of which everyone was happy with. This is a great restaurant to visit with large groups since their menu is very diverse. It would be hard for someone to complain about not having enough menu choices. We will be returning for sure!"

  • "My friends and I used to go to Village Tavern when we lived locally. Now we are split between Charlotte and Durham and Village Tavern is the ideal meeting spot. Great food and great friends...a winning combination!"

  • "I took my wife there for her birthday. She said her filet marsala was the best steak she had eaten in years. My steak and fries were very good and I really enjoyed the port wine sauce. My only complaint is that they were out of Maker's Mark. The service was vary good."

  • "My husband and I frequently visited this restaurant, at least once or twice a month. Now we visit maybe every 6 months. The service is ok, the entire space needs updating, the furniture is very worn. Our table on Sunday was so worn, the paint was completely off. Reminded me of a table at a whole in a wall restaurant. The only possibility of us visiting is if all the other restaurants is Greensboro is sold out."

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience, service was great along with the food....Our server "Scott" did an excellent job, especially since it was a special Birthday for my Husband. Also, our meals were delicious as usual...."

  • "Been there a few times. Really like the place except this time the waiter took my date's order but not mine so I couldn't rate the food this time. That was bizarre, but I still like the place very much. (Badly designed survey; they are forcing me to rate the food. Will go by past experience)"

  • "Celebrating husbands birthday and his parents were visiting from another state. We were a party of 7 and our table was ready the minute we walked in. Although it was a bit cramped, we managed. Out waiter was attentive and on top of everything, almost TOO much so at times but that was okay with us. We all ordered and were served promptly. Our boys' orders were not correct but were corrected quickly when pointed out. Everyones meals were delicious! We will most certainly be dining there again in the future!"

  • "I would highly recommend Village Tavern. The surroundings were very pleasant and relaxing. The service was outstanding and everyone's food was unremarkable. Plan to return as often as we can."

  • "The noise level is my only complaint. I will say that there were several very large parties. This certainly adds a great deal to the noise level. I have dined at Village Tavern on many occasions and found the noise level acceptable."

  • "VT is one if my favorite restaurants. We had Colorado chips which is good. Every item we have had on the menu is wonderful. Pork chops with maple glaze, fish and chips, even the Sunday Brunch. If you like desert, get the CHEESECAKE."

  • "I've been going to Village for years off and on, but the last two times I went the food was just not satisfactory. This last time, the waiter was grumpy, I paid way too much for a filet that was cold, dry and burned. The fries were also cold. The only thing I can count on being good there is the crab dip."

  • "My husband and I ventured out to dinner this year, despite being snowed in (as we'd been most of the week). We had reservations for 8:30 but arrived early; they were able to seat us right away. The food was all delicious! I'd highly recommend the app sampler and the shrimp and grits. Will definitely go back!!"

  • "I took my fiance to the Village Tavern for our Valentine's Date --- two reasons: 1. It is her favorite place in Greensboro! and 2. The food is absolutely delicious...! The numerous times we have been there I always try something different, and every time it is sooo sooo good!! In addition, to great service it has a wonderful atmosphere where you can easily carry a conversation without feeling like you have to speak up so the person can hear you. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a new dinner spot, or a romantic evening."

  • "We had reservations for 7:00, arrived at 6:50, and we're not seated until 7:30. They were out of the first cut of steak my date ordered, so he chose another and it was a terrible cut of meat (and was undercooked). We've enjoyed this restaurant before...our lesson, don't go on a Saturday night!"

  • "My wife and I wanted to eat at Village Tavern for years, always heard it was a great restaurant. We made Reservation for 2,went to the restaurant and waited 45 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. we found out reservations don't guarantee seating(we overheard this from the hostess). After we were seated everything was great, great salads, great steaks, great atmosphere.. We would go to this place again but we will expect to be seated much later than our reservation. Also it seams that a table for only 2 is a low priority for them, They seam to prefer to seat larger groups."

  • "I am very sensitive to seasoned food. I wish they would offer plain chicken (I.e., no marinade) as an option for their salads and other dishes."

  • "We were seated a few minutes early upon our arrival. Service was prompt and well timed. The wait staff was familiar with the menu and the daily specials and was attentive but not too often so as to be come a problem. The food was of course excellent and presented exactly as we both ordered."

  • "I have yet to have anything at these restaurants that was not above par! It was very busy on this Saturday evening and had to wait 30 past our reservations. The waitress was obviously stressed out and not very friendly at first but loosened up after a few words of encouragement"

  • "We had a reservation showed up to a packed restaurant, we where able to get a drink at the bar, but after a while I was just hungry. They explained that they had many dinners finished, but they where lingering. Finally seated with many apologies, they comped our appatizers. The food was good the portions huge. They obviously have a local following."

  • "The Village Tavern is a staple in our list of Greensboro restaurants. The menu has a nice variety of entrees and a reasonably priced wine list to compliment their food. The wait staff has always been both accommodating and friendly. A wonderful place for lunch or dinner."

  • "The Village Tavern is a reliably good choice. I have yet to have a bad meal there. The service can vary, which is normal for a town with a lot of college students. The menu is diverse enough to have something for everyone. Prices are a little steep, but quality is consistent."

  • "We stopped for an early dinner an ordered a couple of appetizers and we both decided to just get pizza. My wife got the 4 cheese which was very good. I ordered the Spinach pizza. Said that it came with mushrooms, tomato and I added the feta cheese. What I got was a Tomato pizza with a few mushrooms and a little bit of Spinach. There was so much tomato that you really couldn't taste the other veggies."

  • "We absolutely love Village Tavern. We dined out with our daughter, son-in-law and our grandkids who are 4 and 7. Our waitress Bonny was very attentive. She took our drink order right away. When she brought our drinks she also brought bread and water as requested. She asked if we were ready to order an appetizer and entree - we were ready and gave her our orders. She made sure that we had sufficient time to finish our salads or soup before bringing our entree. Once the table was cleared she asked if we would like to order dessert or coffee. . we ordered coffee and desserts for our grandkids. . she made it special for them. . We want to mention that we have never been disappointed with Village Tavern. Every dining experience is wonderful!!"

  • "I had a great meal at Village Tavern. The food was great, service was quick, and drinks were wonderful! We visited on New Year's Eve and had made reservations for 8:30. When we arrived, we were told that they were running 15 minutes behind on reservations. We didn't end up sitting down to eat until 9:15. After waiting for that period of time with reservations, I was a little upset, but our waitress and quickness of the arrival of our food made up for it!"
