Diner Reviews
  • "I love this place - I come here all the time. The service is great, drinks and wine list are fabulous, and the menu is wonderful. My only frustration is I virtually always order the same thing, the eggs bruschetta, with no bread. I can't stand raw undercooked eggs so I specifically request over medium every time. Virtually every time, they're bordering on watery and barely edible. I hate to send them back but it is annoying that the cook can't seem to handle such a basic request. My sister who's often with me has the same issue. Watery eggs are just gross! They've also been getting a bit heavy-handed with the balsamic. My plate was swimming in it. This is a recent issue and also frustrating. It's only supposed to be a drizzle!"

  • "Will not return. We made reservations for outside seating - arrived 10 minutes early and was told our reservations for outside seating will NOT be accommodated. She said if an outside table opens up, she would seat us there. A table was free 10 minutes later and she said now there is a waiting list and our reservations made no difference. Food is good and service is typically good but we will not go back due to the rudeness of the hostess and that Open Table reservations with request for outside seating will only be accommodated upon the whim of this hostess. Unfortunate."

  • "A friend recommended Village to us about 3 years ago and every time we have visitors in town or just want to have a pleasant morning during the weekend we head to Santana Row. I never had a problem to find tables, although I am always there early! The food is really good and the service is excellent!"

  • "We were greeted and seated promptly for our 5:30 reservations, and were only one of about 3 tables. Our waiter was friendly and helped us narrow down the large cocktail menu. The food was good, but a bit pricey. we both did the pre fixe menu; I had a steak that was tasty, and my friend had sole that she said was delish. The portions were large enough that we each took some home. i gave my dessert to my friend as I didn't like the choices of carrot cake, creme brulee, or tiramisu. I wish I'd been given the option to chose something else, or at least provided with a dessert menu to see if I wanted to order something and pay extra. I'd probably go back for a cocktail, but not sure I'd make a special trip for dinner."

  • "Got here at 10am village burger on the menu with no time restrictions was told by waiter I could not have it til 10:30 how petty.. Only prob was I watched another table a gentle man receive his burger as I got my food. This was my last village visit. Thanks Mary"

  • "Great food in very nice surroundings with exceptional service, One of the few places where you can get real hollandaise sauce so go for a benedict! What else can you ask for! Come and try it."

  • "Excellent service. The waiter was attentive and informative but did no pepper me with questions about how my meal was, Can I get you something else etc. Food was memorable. Pleasing experience."

  • "The best meal we have had on the Row. Excellent service too."

  • "Been to Village Bistro a number of times and it's always great. This time I had the twice cooked pork and it's definitely something that I'll order again. My wife had the Sole and it was great as well. We also love the outdoor dining at Santana Row."

  • "I am so sorry I do not remember the name of our waiter but he was the best. Even the young man that brought our food to the table was great. I had brunch on Sunday March 16th and we sat in a small booth across from the bar. Our waiter had dark hair, and he was a delight. The food was great as usual and I always enjoy coming back."

  • "The village is one of our favorite spots in santana row. Food is great but the wine selection needs to have a better selection. Service also needs some improvement."

  • "A friend that's new to the area, I've been introducing him to new restaurants periodically ... and Village Cafe is always a great brunch place. Our meal was terrific but we were extra impressed by our server. She was extremely attentive and personable."

  • "Very disappointed! I showed up with a reservation and was told that we were not able to have any of the empty outside tables because they were being saved for people without a reservation. We really wanted to be outside but was told that we had to wait 30 minutes despite that I had a reservation. We were seated all the way in the back next to the kitchen and waiter station. It was loud from the kitchen noise and then not exactly the ambience I wanted to celebrate my friends Birthday and to be birth of her baby. We had to ask for glasses of water three times re never replenished. Overall I was embarrassed because I brought my girlfriends there to celebrate and have a finer dining experience"

  • "The Pork dish was amazing. The curry was terrific. Loved the wine flights. Great selections of wine by the glass, as well as bottle!"

  • "So this was my first visit to Village for brunch. The food and drink were amazing. I was sad there was no Bellemi on the menu but the Napa bubbles made up for it. I got the Brusettta - fried eggs and balsamic vinegar. I am amazed.... who knew eggs and balsamic were good together. The only comment I have to say is that the environment was very loud - we had trouble hearing each other at the table. This is fine for lunch but I would of liked it more quite this early in the morning."

  • "Sat 3 of us at a booth that was very awkward. waiter didn't take drink order first or point out appetizers we might start with. my tomato bisque was perfect. put the pear flat bread wasn't........so much onion it overpowered other flavors. My girlfriend loved her beet salad and it was large, but she got a 1/2 order of the appetizer pasta and the flavors weren't as described and a bit disappointing. Another friend ordered a burger which she loved, but the fries 1/2 the plate mounded and didn't look very upscale for this place. It should have been more for the price point. I left a bit disappointed."

  • "I think the cuisine is good for individuals with a pallet for cuisine of that's toned down. I had the duck and it was delicious, but I felt like to had to add salt everything on the menu. Moreover, the wine selection is great and the service is excellent."

  • "This restaurant is a gem and I rate it among the best at Santana Row. The food was excellent and the service "top notch". They were very accommodating when we asked to add one more person to our table given the fact that it was Valentine's Day. I have been there more than four times already and still enjoy the restaurant like it was my first time. This is a definite "must try"!!"

  • "The food was good. Probably not quite up to the pricing, but that's Santana Row for you. We were treated very well there and enjoyed the experience, particularly the extensive wine list even though it was rather daunting. All in all, a positive experience, and I would go back to try to make a dent in the wine list."

  • "Our party of four was seated promptly at an indoor booth as requested. The decor and feel was very warm and welcoming The service was great, we did not ever feel rushed. I had the fish special which was excellent. The wine selections were good. Definitely will go back."

  • "Quite simply: food was not good. The place is very nice. I'd go back for drinks but not food. Nothing (not even dessert) was good."

  • "Great place. The Brie Appetizer was amazing. Our servet was so cool he told us how to make it at home! Don't worry. We will still come back. Dimly lit at night, so good atmosphere. Overall, great time nice place."

  • "Only problem - they seated us, then 10 minutes later called me on my cell and asked if I was going to show up for my reservation. Also, if you're going to surprise your spouse with a dinner reservation, be aware that they'll call you the day before and leave a message. "Uh, honey, did you make a reservation at The Village?""

  • "Nice brunch menu. My husband had the Fish and Chips. The portions were good. He said it tasted good. I had the Tombo Tuna Melt. It was good but not very warm. The cheese was barely melted. It would be better if the sourdough bread slice was toasted first and the cheese was hotter. It was a little expensive, but that is expected on the "Row"."

  • "I have been there 20 times, hoping it would get better. It is so convenient to the movie with a friendly menu. But the food is ALWAYS sub par. Went Saturday night with 4 people, everyone had complaints about the food and the service. The shirt ribs were served completely dry and looked unappetizing. The burger ordered rare was served well done, salad had brown lettuce. That is only the beginning! Go to Left Bank across the street it is better!"

  • "I had the steak and my friend had the sole. My friend kept raving about the sole and when she was finished, I looked down at her plate and was surprised that not a crumb was left on her plate! We shared a pitcher of the Village Punch which was absolutely delicious. I don't care for red velvet cake, but theirs is absolutely delicious - I best I ever had. . Our waiter was tall, very handsome, very nice and very helpful. All in all we had an absolutely great time."

  • "Wine list that is quite unique and use the sommelier! Wines by the glass are even good quality - which is fairly rare to find. Always wonderful little plates to share - we also like sitting at the bar because the bartenders are very good servers also. I have never had a bad plate at The Village!"

  • "The Village is my wife's and my own favorite local stop. We have never been disappointed and in fact the staff is most receptive to any concerns we may have from a wine that has possibly turned to being seating in a more quiet remote location of the store. Great time, experience and as always food."

  • "This is a great little gem of a restaurant. I love that they focus on serving local, organic, sustainably grown and produced food. The menu has many diverse options. The food is refreshing and presented beautifully, but it tends to be on the bland side, and could use a little more flavor!"

  • "I treated my SO to dinner on the occasion of his 71st birthday (didn't tell the restaurant that). He had the mahi-mahi special, which he thought was fine except it needed wasabi, which upon request was brought. I had the mini-Wellingtons; enjoyed them, but didn't think much of the accompanying "pickled vegetables," which were a vinegary couple of desiccated green beans and some carrots. A mini-salad accompaniment would have been better. SO had no dessert, only a cappuccino, and I had a coffee-liqueur (forget name) that was fine. We appreciated the low noise level. And Santana Row is such a festive location. Especially in this season with all the lights."

  • "We had reservations for 7pm on a Thursday night. We got there early and had drinks at the bar. The Mexican coffees were strong, hot, excellent. The Vodka and Cranberry was weak. Dinner was good. The french onion soup was excellent, the beet salad very good. The Halibut was excellent, the duck was OK. The 3 paired dessert was an excellent set of flavors. The noise level was reasonable, however It wasn't very crowded. We decided we would come back and explore the menu. This decision was driven by our Outstanding waitress. She was friendly and attentive. She was obviously paying attention and timed the food perfectly,"

  • "This was my first try here and I enjoyed it very much. I am very picky about hollandaise sauce and often do not like it, but this one was near perfection. Everything was great."

  • "Fantastic service! We brought our own special occasion wine, which they decanted and poured to perfection . Brie starter was delicious as wee the empanadas. We ordered scallops, beet salad, truffle risotto, salmon, and ravioli- all were excellent and cooked to perfection. Unique, high quality ingredients , 5 star presentation and an elegant ambiance."

  • "This place is close by with really good quality and a friendly staff. They have excellent pancakes, eggs benedict, and a egg croissant sandwich thing ... which is awesome. I would recommend also getting a banana nut muffin, those are terrific. Also, they have lovely beverage options for people not drinking alcohol. I regularly go here and it's very consistently very good."

  • "My friend introduced me to Village Bistro because she knows I'm a stickler for supporting local farmers, organic and natural food. She also wanted to introduce me to the Moscow Mule (Ginger beer and vodka). It sounded pretty gross to me, but she made me try one and now it's my FAVORITE drink. Way different then I expected - almost like a ginger mojito! The food is also amazing - unique with the right twists! This is a place you could wear jeans to or be dressed up super fancy - it's fit for families and couples! Go try it now, but make a reservation because it gets busy!"
