Love eating outside watching the endless people-watching while enjoying a good glass of wine. Inside can be very noisy, especially if you sit near the bar. Had the salmon this visit; was good but sort of strong. I prefer their beef dishes. They seem to be more satisfying. Service can be spotty. I've had GREAT waitstaff, and I've had mediocre wait staff. I suppose that's the way it can be any any restaurant. I will say this: when I think of eating at Santana Row, Village Bistro is usually tops on my list.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMReally tasty brunchWe went for brunch on a Sunday morning and could not have been happier. Great food, some interesting flavors, and just a generally positive experience. Great food, great wine list, great service. Especially lovely during warm weather when you can sit outside on the sidewalk under an umbrella and enjoy the people watching. Salads were great, as was the tuna ahi appetizer, grilled chicken and sole. The curry sauce was a bit heavy. That is our only complaint. Banana Bread pudding is scrumptious. Service was wonderful. This time our server was Michelle and she did an amazing job taking care of us and making us feel welcome. The drinks are always fresh and seasonal. I really liked the macaroni and cheese, which was more like macaroni in alfredo type sauce. Everything was seasoned just right, not too salty. Overall a very nice meal.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good restaurant in Santana RowMost of the restaurants in Santana Row are over the top - price and especially noise. Village Bistro is a pleasant change as it has the "New York City" decor and the noise level is usually tolerable. We were there on a Monday evening and there were only a few people inside, so of course it was quiet.
We had their "Seasonal" fixed price menu that was discounted to $35 as part of the San Jose Restaurant Week. Duck was a little under-done, then once sent back was a little overdone and dried out. The salmon was excellent. Service was reasonably good.
Their wines by the bottle are, frankly, priced too high. We found a reasonable wine by the glass and got a bottle of it which worked out to be more reasonable.

The food is good to very good, and there is a very good wine selection. I ordered the short ribs this time around and while they were very good, the beef was a bit dry, and the winter root vegetables were a bit to "earthy" for my taste. This is a great place to sit outside when the weather is warm. We were going to order 2 glasses of a nice chard and he recommended a 1/2 bottle that turned out to be as good and about the same price. He was attentive and informative without being annoying. I love their Hamburger and fries. My wife had the stripped bass which was awesome! Service was very good, our server was attentive to our needs. The salmon was expertly prepared and velvety smooth. The cubano pork was seasoned with multiple sauces including some sweet cabbage which provided a culinary mouth explosion of flavors.
