Only gets water refills when asked. We were just ignored after dinner...had to ask for dessert. We ordered sunset dinner...good deal for salad, entree and dessert. Salad was great. Entre of pork loin was OK. Panna cotta for dessert was average.

My fiancé and I were in desperate need of a date night to get away from the stresses of work and wedding planning. We felt like we were at a vineyard in Napa while enjoying delicious food and our pick of wines from around the world. They had a good selection of 3-wine flights to choose from so that we could sample a variety of choices before setting on a glass each. They also offer half-glasses, which was a perfect choice for this DD.

Service and food were terrible. 20 mins for drinks. Waitress said the bartender is slow. Forgot my first course. Brunch entree was missing ingredients that I ordered and all dishes were totally bland. The manager apologized and. Overed the whole bill but did nothing to correct the problem. Will never ever go back.

  • One small but significant glitch
    Brunchlover
    Dined on 10/25/2014
My family and I really enjoyed our brunch at this restaurant. The menu offered many intriguing selections and the food, service and ambiance were all very good. The only quibble I have is that when I tried to order a soy mocha, I was disappointed to hear that they don't offer soy milk. In this day and age, when most sophisticated California restaurants eagerly accommodate patrons' dietary restrictions, that's surprising to say the least. I think they need to rethink the soy issue.

  • Not a good visit
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006VIP

So many things were simply "not right" with our first visit to this restaurant. The waiter was "pushy" - pushing expensive wine (when I simply asked for the list) - pushing extra food (when we clearly said no to appetizers, salads, extras, & deserts - more than twice). The food came in a manner different from how it was described on the menu. The sauces were different from those advertised, the vegetables were different than those described, the food was over cooked. Finally, the wine is simply over-priced for the area. There are neighboring restaurants with the same or better offerings at significantly lower prices.

Great selection for brunch. Very California fare. Disappointed that menu posted offered pumpkin pancakes that sounded yummy, but when I went to order them they weren't available. Service a tad slow for a Sunday brunch but could be simply the Californian influenced dining experience. Would definitely try them again.

Village Bistro in Santana Row is a favorite place for lunch. While the inside is lovely, the outside dining experience is particularly enjoyable. Beautiful salads on a warm summer day make this restaurant a good place for sidewalk cafe people watching in an unhurried atmosphere. I usually order the Cobb salad, full of chicken, ham, avocado, bacon, egg, and bleu cheese. A great splurge salad for a relaxed dining experience.

We had a disappointing birthday celebration at Village on Saturday, 9/6. Even though the restaurant was not close to full, our waiter seemed inattentive. It took quite some time to get our drinks and bread only came after asking for it twice and after we got our starters. The food was good, though my salmon had to be returned to be cooked through and by the time I got it back, my dinner guests were done with their main courses. It was a lot of money to spend on a very mediocre experience.

The food for brunch was good. Prices of the meals were acceptable. Unfortunately there was a long wait for two dishes ordered. The waiter brought out the wrong dish for the second meal. Then he tried to assert that what he brought out was what I had ordered. He took the dish away and came back and apologized for the even longer wait and mentioned he might add something extra to the meal like a dessert. My meal finally came after my dining partner had finished hers. In the meantime he never asked if we needed anything else. No drinks or water refilled and nothing extra was offered after we finished our meals, just the bill.

Good drink menu and great brunch choices! Sat outside and enjoyed pitchers of mimosas while catching up with girlfriends and watching all the people on santana row. So far I've had the ceviche (classic white fish is the best out of the 3) and the breakfast bruschetta...both great dishes! My only gripe is mimosa pitchers were too small with too much ice for $40 each! Definitely would go again!

The food was excellent! Our drinks were exactly as we expected them. We were waiting for friends and thought to order a drink while waiting. After 15 minutes, I had to approach the hostess and ask if we could order drinks. That was the only glitch. We sat outside which is along the street; but it's a semi-closed street; so we didn't care. Inside, the decor and atmosphere is lovely, warm and inviting. The staff is very attentive (other then our drink issue) and knowledgeable. The food is presented in a lovely arrangement and was cooked perfectly. When in the area, we will definitely go back!

This is one of our regular dining locations. However, I am not pleased with the new entree selection. The salmon was dry and the pork chop was bland. I was especially unimpressed with the pork chop. It was literally a dry pork chop on a plate with nothing else on it. The salmon was overcooked, but at least on a bed of a sauce and veggies. Stick to the appetizers until they bring back the other entrees or introduce some more flavorful options.

For being another "California" bistro, the food and ambience are really quite nice and all of the dishes were well-prepared. The service was friendly, and they allowed our group to relax with coffee after our brunch meal. They were very attentive but not overly so. The patio is a bit on the small side, but very pleasant especially if it is hot outside. Also, it was fun to sit on the patio and people-watch on a weekend over a leisurely brunch with mimosas.

Village Bistro was my favorite restaurant on Santana Row, but my friend and I were underwhelmed by the lunch food the other day. The waiter was very friendly and accommodating, but the food was not good. My friend and I ordered two dishes to split. One was the smoked salmon eggs Benedict with basil hollandaise. I didn't care for the croissant type bread they served the eggs on. It was very flakey, but was tasteless. Also the entire dish including the eggs was stone cold. The other entree we split was the tomato wrap with chicken and truffle aioli. It sounded so good, but was really a bland, tasteless wrap. I couldn't taste one hint of truffle, it was dry,the chicken didn't taste fresh so we left it. Not sure about this place now!

I have been to Village Cal Bistro many times and am rarely disappointed. Great cocktails and wine selections partner very well with the menu. I ordered a beautiful french rose to go along with the steak ban me sandwich. Very tasty sandwich and loved the chips. I requested something to dip the in-house made potato chips and add to the sandwich and was brought the wonderful spicy sauce also used in the sandwich. Yum! Leave room for the carrot cake! This is the best one I have ever had and my favorite on the dessert menu. Great service by Heather.
