  • "Good place to meet friends. Good food and nice seasonal menu."

  • "I have been to Village Cal Bistro many times and am rarely disappointed. Great cocktails and wine selections partner very well with the menu. I ordered a beautiful french rose to go along with the steak ban me sandwich. Very tasty sandwich and loved the chips. I requested something to dip the in-house made potato chips and add to the sandwich and was brought the wonderful spicy sauce also used in the sandwich. Yum! Leave room for the carrot cake! This is the best one I have ever had and my favorite on the dessert menu. Great service by Heather."

  • "I liked this place, good brunch spot, had a good smoked salmon egg benedict!!"

  • "We met friends for brunch and were very impressed with this restaurant. The food was excellent and the service couldn't have been better. We stayed far too long -- hadn't seen our friends for over a year -- and were very comfortable the entire time. The service people were always there when we needed something, but didn't bother us constantly. Each order (4 people, 3 different orders) was generous and tasty. We sat on the side patio, but the front patio and inside looked just as comfortable."

  • "my only compliant was that we were told we couldn't sit outside. There were tables outside (set for 2 people), and I did have a reservation. so was my big disappointment because it was a beautiful afternoon."

  • "After a grueling drive, my boyfriend arrived in San Jose exhausted and hungry. I chose to make reservations at Village California Bistro after seeing the menu had a diverse selection that included meats, seafoods, pasta, burgers which was sure to satisfy anyone. While the menu had a good variety, it was not extensive; however since each person won't likely be ordering more than one entree at a time, it was perfect. The restaurant was a wonderful choice for dinner since it had indoor and outdoor seating, perfect for a warm summer night. We sat on the side patio where there were light strands that romanticized the atmosphere. The food came in a timely manner and were delicious. Given the cost of natural ingredients the trip was a bit pricier"

  • "The food was excellent, the service was excellent, very friendly and helpful staff with all I came in contact with."

  • "Village California Bistro & Wine Bar has been my go-to spot since it opened. The staff is friendly and welcoming, the food is always amazing, and the atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. The menu features seasonal dishes along with classic favorites. It's the only choice for lunch and dinner when dining with my closest friends and business clients alike."

  • "Food was excellent but they didn't have a record of my reservation, which was disappointing, especially when a hostess called me the day before and asked me to confirm I was coming, which I called back and did. After I explained I got a phone call from the hostess the day before and had an email confirmation I could show them on my phone, they seated me, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth that they had no record of my reservation. Food was very good -- we both had the tuna melts and they were excellent. Service was ok. The waiter forgot to get a glass of water that my mom asked for, and then we had to wait for a long period of time to get the bill and then for the waiter to take the payment. Service and management need to improve."

  • "The Village is a great place for outdoor dining/people watching. Located in the middle of Santana Row, there is a lot of activity with a wide variety of people. The food is quite good and service is up to par. The only negative, nothing to do with the Village, is the some of the dogs walking by are barking and there are patrons that insists on talking, loudly, on their celss phones. One guy actually used his speaker phone.....quite annoying."

  • "Our early lunch was delicious. I had the hamburger (tender and juicy) and my husband had the fish and chips (light, crunchy coating). We sat outside on a beautiful day. The only down side was the lady sitting next to us with the little dog that barked a lot. She thought it was cute. We didn't. Some people are clueless. Please keep your pets at home if you can't control them!! Our waiter, Sid, was fantastic! Very personable and attentive. We enjoyed chatting with him about the area. We'll definitely return."

  • "We once again found ourselves unable to decide on any other restaurant and made the reservation at Village. Their new seasonal menu had just been released and it was wonderful. We started with the Corn Fritters and both had the tomato salad (the salad was almost too big). Both were excellent quality and absolutely delicious. My wife had the forbidden rice curry with prawns and I had the New York steak. Other than the potato wedges being too dense, the food was perfect. Paired with a great wine and we had a wonderful evening. Thanks again for a memorable evening at Santana Row. We will be back!!!!"

  • "We enjoyed a most lovely evening at Village, our first time. Our server was friendly, attentive and made wonderful suggestions on our selections. He was warm and engaging with our 3-year old daughter. It was a lovely restaurant, reasonable price point. Every dish from soup, kobe burger, local petrale sole and 4-layer carrot cake was delicately prepared and flavors exceptionally well balanced. Would absolutely come again."

  • "The food was delicious. The menu had a great variety of types of food. We had very good service."

  • "Every time we're here, the cuisine is uniquely delicious. Although there is not a huge selection of vegetarian entrees, which is what we eat, the two or three offered are superb. The wait staff is professional, and the wine list offers unusual California labels: We tried a Carneros chardonnay we'd never heard of, Poseidon, and though it was a bit expensive it was a wonderful find. We always enjoy dinner here!"

  • "This place has become one of my favorite brunch places. My only complaint is that the menu is somewhat limited. My favorite eggs benedict is especially good with real house made hollandaise sauce."

  • "As regulars, we have always enjoyed the food and the experience at Village California Bistro. The Duck and Pork Two Ways are winners."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Had high expectations based on the Santana Row atmosphere, but the food was just inedible. A braised short rib should just pull apart with little more than a few pokes with a fork. The one served at Village Bistro was so rubbery it could have passed for a dog toy -- it was difficult to cut, even with a knife. Great place to sit outside and have a glass of win, but don't eat the food."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "Side patio is quiet enough to talk easily with friends! Food was good! When ordering ice tea, I was told they had flavors, but wasn't told that the flavors came in a bottle and the cost was more than the regular tea. I think I should have been told! Other than that, the service was good."

  • "We went for Saturday early dinner and had "dinner and a show!" Eat outside at this Santana Row hot spot and you will see everything from regular window shopping couples to trendy nightclub outfitted gal pals. Food was scrumptious as we had the 3 course well priced pre-fixe menu. We chose to forego the wine paring since we weren't familiar with the vintner. By the glass options are local CA and not easy to come by. Highly recommend perusing them at length. My trout was thick and succulent and his beef dish tasty and completely up to snuff. Hardy servings of food allowed us take the carrot cake and flourless chocolate cake home for breakfast the next day. Really busy when the 7.00 hour came so we were relieved for the early seating."

  • "We had a very nice brunch. We had friends with us from out of town who had never been to Santana Row. They enjoyed there meal and experience at the Village. "

  • "I have been to Village Bistro a number of times and I find myself annoyed by the inconsistency in food and service. It's located in a beautiful spot, making outdoor dining a must, but the brunch this time was not great. I have had a couple of great dinners there, so perhaps this is more their forte. We had an early reservation for brunch and there were only two tables filled outside; however, our server was nowhere to be found."

  • "Food wasnt good at all. I had the pasta and my date had the risotto. She told me she didn't like her food either but didn't want to say anything. Great wine selection but food was not up to par. "

  • "I have dined at Village California Bistro quite a few times and have been relatively happy, until Mother's Day. I had reservations when the hostess took us to our table, it wasn't ready so we had to stand around for about 10 minutes. When it was being readied, we had no table cloth - just paper hastily put on. We waited at least 15 minutes for anyone to even come over and the wait for the food is an entire different story. Our server was pleasant enough, but obviously had too much to handle. My son wanted to order a hamburger which is usually on the menu and was told it wasn't being served, but when he went to the restroom, another customer had one so... I will have to think twice before I go again."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "The menu is diverse enough that my dinner partners' diverse tastes could easily be satisfied. Yet the menu is not so extensive that we were overwhelmed by choices. (In my experience, a long menu means mediocre results.) Our server was a bit overtaxed with too many tables, not all in the same room. As a result, we were somewhat neglected (forgetting one drink order, no attention to fountain drink refills, timeliness of ordering, timeliness of checking on our dining experience, timeliness of every step in receiving and processing the bill, all while he nearly ran around to take care of other tables). The food was fresh, tasty, and well-prepared, but not creative-- great for people who are wary of unfamiliar food combinations."
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "Food and drinks were very slow and the restaurant was not crowded. I've been to the restaurant many times and enjoyed it, however the last few experiences have becomeprogressively worse. Still hopeful it will improve."
    Dined on 5/5/2014
  • "The Village Bistro has never let us down. The menu is diverse, but local and organic. Love the fact they have options for vegans and carnivores alike. My husband is not that easy to please and he was oohing and aching over his pork loin dinner. Absolutely terrific!"

  • "Enjoyed a lunch and sangria outside at Village. You can have a nice view while still enjoying shade. Earlier lunchtimes allow for more seating options. Warm seafood salad was not bad. Would go back to try some of the other lunch options."

  • "I made reservations on Open Table for 2:00 and then needed to push them back to 2:30. I didn't have internet service, but I was able to call and change the reservation to 2:30. I requested an outdoor seating weather permitting. It was sunny but breezy and thankfully, we were placed in the side patio with the overhanging and heaters! The food was great with options for breakfast as well as lunch. The service was great. Our waiter was around enough to meet our needs but thankfully was not hovering. I love this place and will be back."

  • "This is my "go-to" lunch spot. The parking is horrible but if you go early you can usually find a spot. It's the only downside to Santana Row now is the parking. The food at Village is always dependable and interesting."
    Dined on 4/25/2014
  • "Our beet salads were creative, beautiful to look at and very tasty. The hamburger was overdone, dry and almost tasteless. The server was average. Not sure why the busboys were in such a hurry to clear the table...the restaurant was half empty. "
    Dined on 4/24/2014
  • "This is a place you can count on to delivery quality food at a reasonable price. In particular the eggs Benedict are done right with a citrus hollandaise sauce made to order. The coffee is rich and hot and the service is great. "
    Dined on 4/22/2014
  • "I love this place - I come here all the time. The service is great, drinks and wine list are fabulous, and the menu is wonderful. My only frustration is I virtually always order the same thing, the eggs bruschetta, with no bread. I can't stand raw undercooked eggs so I specifically request over medium every time. Virtually every time, they're bordering on watery and barely edible. I hate to send them back but it is annoying that the cook can't seem to handle such a basic request. My sister who's often with me has the same issue. Watery eggs are just gross! They've also been getting a bit heavy-handed with the balsamic. My plate was swimming in it. This is a recent issue and also frustrating. It's only supposed to be a drizzle!"

  • "A friend recommended Village to us about 3 years ago and every time we have visitors in town or just want to have a pleasant morning during the weekend we head to Santana Row. I never had a problem to find tables, although I am always there early! The food is really good and the service is excellent!"

  • "Got here at 10am village burger on the menu with no time restrictions was told by waiter I could not have it til 10:30 how petty.. Only prob was I watched another table a gentle man receive his burger as I got my food. This was my last village visit. Thanks Mary"

  • "Great food in very nice surroundings with exceptional service, One of the few places where you can get real hollandaise sauce so go for a benedict! What else can you ask for! Come and try it."

  • "Excellent service. The waiter was attentive and informative but did no pepper me with questions about how my meal was, Can I get you something else etc. Food was memorable. Pleasing experience."

  • "We were greeted and seated promptly for our 5:30 reservations, and were only one of about 3 tables. Our waiter was friendly and helped us narrow down the large cocktail menu. The food was good, but a bit pricey. we both did the pre fixe menu; I had a steak that was tasty, and my friend had sole that she said was delish. The portions were large enough that we each took some home. i gave my dessert to my friend as I didn't like the choices of carrot cake, creme brulee, or tiramisu. I wish I'd been given the option to chose something else, or at least provided with a dessert menu to see if I wanted to order something and pay extra. I'd probably go back for a cocktail, but not sure I'd make a special trip for dinner."
