Diner Reviews
  • "Tried Village Anchor for the first time after hearing nothing but great reviews. The food was amazing and the servicer was very polite and very knowledgable about the menu. The crab cakes were amazing and as good as the ones I get on the east coast. My boyfriend got the short ribs and cleaned his plate. We sat outside and the ambience was outstanding. The manager and chef both stopped by to check on the food and our experience. We will definitely be back again."

  • "Food was good, service was good. The menu changes left a few key items off (the burger for instance)...which is sad to see. Yes, I know there is burger night on Thursday...but my appetite doesn't always pay attention to the calendar. We ate dinner outside with my in-laws with fans going and a full house. It was really loud and difficult to hear our own conversation. The noise level would be my only negative."

  • "The food here is always wonderful. The pick 3 is perfect for lunch. I had the soup of the day, BLT&A, and sweet potato fries with marshmellow dipping sauce! Their bacon is to die for! The interior is beautiful, I love the art on the ceiling....but dining outside is the ticket to feeling like you are on vacation. The gardens and greenery are so beautiful."

  • "Great food, very nice atmosphere (inside and out), great service, will return! Our second visit to the Village Anchor and it was just as good as our first visit."

  • "Another great meal at one of my favorite places. I love the variety of the items on the menu. The service is always great. The staff is always helpful."

  • "Great Food, amazing Service. New menu. Great for special occasions."

  • "We are regular Village Anchor dinners. This past Wednesday, "half-priced" bottle night, was underwhelming. Per usual, the restaurant was slammed. We were seated indoors and waited and waited for a server. I think they were down one server. My salad arrived at a summer room temperature! The lettuce was wilted and the veggies were limp. A salad at 90+ degrees is not appetizing. My other item, new to the menu crab salad, was served at the same temperature. Normally, the kitchen functions well despite the crowds; not this time."

  • "I was impressed with the menu choices. I had a side salad and an appetizer for an entrée, and my husband and I split the deviled eggs 3 ways! The portions were ample and the food delicious. The server was very kind to move the fan so that it wasn't making as much noise for us. We tried the beer on tap, and enjoyed the selection."

  • "Had lunch here during the week and on the weekend. Great food, great service, and whether you dine inside or outside you will feel like you are on vacation. Away from the crowd of downtown, but worth the drive."

  • "Love the patio dining on a beautiful summer evening. Food was very good as was the service. However, the noise level is more than energetic for it is hard to hold a conversation without raising your voice. It would help to have the music level turned down."

  • "We had a girls' lunch out and had a great time here! The decor is adorable yet elegant. I would have any meal here anytime. I am already looking forward to the next visit!"

  • "Had a excellent meal with all food prepared perfectly. The service was great at first then became rushed when it grew closer to the end of the night. I recommend going earlier in the evening. "

  • "Great place to eat lunch or diner. Service is polite, menu is like top chef, alternative atmosphere to downtown. Haven't spent time at the bar, but looked stocked, elegant, big TVs."

  • "Arrived 5 min before reserved time. Had to wait an additional 20 min past reserved time. We were shoved akwardly into an uncomfortable corner between what can only be described as batchelrette parties. Both of these parties were screaming and shouting at eachother for the duration of our stay. Our food came out incrediblt slow."

  • "When the staff realized they lost our reservation and we had to wait for a table, they went out of their way to accommodate us. "

  • "Unfortunately our server didn't offer us a dessert option at the end of our meal, which we had planned to have. He just brought our checks and we felt rushed along. We both had the fried goat cheese salad which we love. Highly recommend for lunch!"

  • "Had reservations on a Friday night, seated immediately. Server was excellent, food too! Sat on the lanai which is a super cool atmosphere. Fantastic food and wine. Especially the won tons and hotter brown! Took friends from out of town-they want to come back soon. My new favorite place. "

  • "If you want to have a conversation this is not the place to go. Very noisy. The food is very good but rather pricey for lunch."

  • "Dine here often and have always had great food and dining experience, but last night was not good. Had a reservation but had to wait 30 minutes for our table. We ordered a bottle of wine and it wasn't brought to the table for another 30 minutes. We also asked several times for bread and it was finally brought after at least 5 or 6 requests. Our waiter offered us free dessert due to such a disappointing evening, but my husband and I don't eat desserts, so this was no concilation to us. The others in our party did enjoy the desserts. Also, the noise level was so loud that conversation was nearly impossible. Will be a while before we try to dine here again."

  • "We took an out-of-town guest to The Village Anchor for lunch, and she was impressed before we were even seated. The food was fantastic, and it was the perfect day to dine on the patio. "

  • "There was some people late 20 to early 30 were so loud (about 20) I could not talk to my wife or hear her 2 ft away there parents never taught them manners .Very nice place but people on that area are ????"

  • "I took my daughter there for her birthday. Perfect weather allowed us to done in the patio. Our server was extremely personable , wish I remembered his name! He took great care of us, including my 6 year old grandson. I have fiends here many times, on dates and with friends, and always enjoyed the food and atmosphere, but this visit was exceptional. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Would also highly recommend the watermelon, cucumber, jalapeño margarita. I know it sounds strange.....but what an amazing experience!! "

  • "It was a great meal and even though we had to dine on a covered patio , it was warm My biggest complaint ( and the rating didn't allow me to put this ) was it was SO SO loud. I literally could not hear person next to me never mind the other guests. It was too bad because this was a get together from people all over...even South Africa. I would only eat there again with 1 other person. Never a group."

  • "My family and I dined there 5/13 and are still talking about it. We live a 3.5-hr drive from Louisville, but every time we visit, the Village Anchor is a must. Love the atmosphere, and the dining can best be described as gourmet comfort food. I've never had less than a spectacular meal there. My only problem is that I have such a difficult time deciding what to order!"

  • "Gorgeous! In the middle of beautiful, lush Anchorage is Village Anchor. Such a delightful surprise sitting in a neighborhood alone. Absolutely loved this place! Great food and gorgeous outdoor scenery."

  • "Way too expensive. If I go back I will need to be very selective in choosing an entree. My guest and I each had one glass of lower priced wines, no appetizer, no salad. Otherwise an excellent place to eat."

  • "We dined at the Village Anchor last Monday for our anniversary. Monday's are traditionally slow business days in the restaurant industry so we thought it would be a nice quiet dinner. The indoor area we were seated in was just inside the entrance, the tables were very close together and we were in the direct traffic pattern for the kitchen, door and access to the rest rooms. Wasn't exactly a quiet place to be. The food was very good and the portion sizes were abundant. We will probably try it again but ask for an outside table weather permitting."

  • "The food in taste and presentation was excellent. The wait staff attentive without being annoying. Ambience is enjoyable. However, our table was no more than 4 inches from the next and my back was too close to the entrance. Fortunately, it was a lovely day and did not bother me. I was concerned that a patron entering would collide with my chair. "

  • "I wanted to show my love interest a special evening and I thought of the Village Anchor. I have been there many times for dinner and for Sunday brunch. It was a huge success. Great ambiance and the food was spectacular. We started with the goat cheese appetizer and had the shrimp and grits and salmon entrees. The wine and bourbon selection was fabulous too!"

  • "Once again "Village Anchor" delivers a great meal and good atmosphere. I love coming there to eat and the place never disappoints. After dinner we slip down to the Sea Hag bar for a drink and conversation. What's not to like......."

  • "Overall the meal was good and the service was very good. Our waitress was knowledgable and very nice. Their wine selection was OK, but the food was very good. The hummus appetizer was one of the better ones I have had that was not home-made. The wife's pork chop was very good. The home-made pie was excellent. I will do it again"

  • "My husband and I decided Derby day to come here for dinner after the Derby. I was able to make a reservation for later that evening using Open Table easily. We arrived at the restaurant a little early for our reservation and they were able to seat us right away. The atmosphere was festive and lots of tables were filled with other Derby goers in their colorful hats and outfits. They had a special Derby menu for the week and I ordered the Shrimp and Grits - it was not your typical fare - the chef went above and beyond on this dish. It was flavored with white cheddar grits, fried okra, smoked sausage - all of your typical down home cooking rolled into one tasty dish. "

  • "Like an English pub, especially the front room, but the food is definitely better. Has a good price range, and a variety of menu selections. Our party of four greatly enjoyed chicken pot pie, fried chicken and the Anchor's version of the hot brown. We were seated in the covered garden rom in back. Very noisy during Derby week. The front room is better and more pub like. 1/2 price bottle of wines on Wed. nights. Also wine sampling of 3 wines on this night. I've been here several times and will definitely return again. "
