  • a family celebration location

Villa d'Este was the perfect location to celebrate Christmas Eve with our family (12 people total - including 4 children). The service by Eddy was attentive and friendly. We appreciated the location in the restaurant where we could celebrate together as a family without a crowded feeling. The food was excellent -- exceeded expectations -- at an affordable price. An added surprise was the wonderful woman behind the piano, tastefully singing a variety of Christmas songs. An enjoyable night overall. We'll be back.

Mediocre food. Interesting decor. A piece of a bygone era (the 1950s), with food typical of that benighted era.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this restaurant. Villa d'Este is a unique "ART DECO" treasure hidden within San Francisco. Guests are greeted the moment you walk in the door and the wait staff are exceptionally attentive throughout your stay at the restaurant. The food is always delicious and the desserts are prepared with love.

I went with a large group on a Friday night. This restaurant is very good. The food is good and a great deal. For the same price as an entree at most restaurants, Vila d'Este gives you soup, salad, anti pasta, rigatoni, your entree, and ice cream. The ambiance is nice there is a piano player and there is a nice view of there garden. The service is very attentive. I would return again.

The ambiance, decor and cocktails are fantastic but the food tasted like it all came out of a can. This place could be incredible with some fresh food and a good chef.

The service was extremely slow and the food was only mediocre, but the staff was friendly and helpful. The rest rooms were old and worn and the women's room light was burnt out. The deocor was sort of retro, but at least it was clean and it looked newly painted. The wine was a low end bottle, but they were charging high prices for it. Overall an ok experience.

Friendly, good food, solid, not spectacular. Only slight drawback was that the Eggs Benedict was not runny, but tasted good anyway. We went on Fathers Day - lots of room early in day. Good neighborhood spot.

We had an early dinner, at 6 PM live piano music. Nice touch. Excellent dinner service. Delicious petrale sole. Menu option available for dinner either a la carte or full dinner. I ordered a la cart, my husband enjoyed the full dinner, he was very satisfied.

  • There for Sunday brunch.

There for Sunday brunch. Very nice menu. Champagne, OJ, or mimosas part of the deal as well as plates of fruit and fresh corn muffins that are automatically brought to the table before the order is even placed. Wide variety of entree choices. Only down side was the place was FREEZING. We arrived at 12:30, so it wasn't like the restaurant just opened. We asked and were told that the building was old and it took a long time for the heat to circulate. By the time we left, close to two hours later, it was getting comfortable, but I definitely would bring layers or a heavy sweater/jacket the nect time I go there.

Villa d'Este is great for an older crowd. We went on a Saturday night and there was a lovely pianist/vocalist who sang songs from the 1940s or so. So, the seniors enjoyed it. The amount of food you get for the full dinner is a great deal. However, the quality of the food is not that great. The decor is interesting. The staff was attentive.

After several years of not venturing out to Ocean Avenue, it was fun to again experience the "charm" of Villa d'Este. The food was good, plentiful, and an excellent value. I remember it as a quiet place where conversation was easy -- unfortunately due to a Friday evening holiday party of 25 people, this time the noise level was rather disturbing (still not as bad as many of the trendy SOMA places). The service was excellent, and we will be back soon.

Everyone should go there once to experience old time italian food in an over done art deco room. It wasn't in business in the '30s but could have been. Definitely a step back in time. Portions are more than adequate but quality is lacking.
