Vignola & Cinque Terre takes its name from a small town in Italy’s heartland known for its food culture. At Vignola & Cinque Terre, we focus on an authentic European experience, and use the best seasonal ingredients, and organic, naturally grown items from local Maine farmers, suppliers and producers.
Our wine and beer selection showcases varietals from around the world that aren’t available anywhere else in New England. We’re really looking forward to sharing these "secret finds".

  • "Service was wonderful.The apps were great (Zuppa and Bruscetta), dessert was fabulous (Brule and Panna Cotte). My wife raved about her main course all night (the porkbelly dish). My main course however was really, really bad. The Penne was just pasta and a meat sauce which could have come from a jar. It was advertised as boar and pork but there was absolutely no distinction between the two. I literally had heart burn all night long. We might come back to V/CT but I won't order that mess or anything with a "red" sauce ever again."

  • "We were wary as it was a pre-merge visit in which we fell in love with Cinque Terre. Physically quite a different place...BUT...the food was still exceptional, the bartender appropriately friendly as we chilled a bit before our reservation, her drinks perfect. Our server was pleasant, professional and helpful while not a clingon...a nice change from many places. Did I mention the food was still exceptional! Perhaps the 2nd most enjoyable stop (after John Prine show) in our quick 3 day visit to Portland. Highly recommend this spot for a special dinner."

  • "Great place for brunch. This was my second time and am looking forward to returning soon. Wish they were open for brunch on Sat as well as on Sun. Food presentation was great. Two of us had the hash, one the duck omelet, and one the ham parm. The duck omelet was the only okay. The other dishes were great. The cheese plate as a starter was a hit."

  • "We went for dinner during Restaurant Week, and, in fairness, I am only reviewing the limited menu available for the fixed price. The food varied from barely OK (the large ball of goop appetizer) to very good (hanger steak). The service was impersonal and minimalist--there was no warmth or personality involved. It was a perfectly acceptable dinner, but barely worth the Restaurant Week pricing. I don't think it's fair to judge a restaurant's potential on the basis of such a limited experience, but I must say that I will not be in a hurry to return."

  • "The risotto, and the quail dishes were fantastic. The chickpea fritters were lighter than air--kind of magically light and not oily. The cheese selection was very extensive and interesting. Desserts are house made by their own pastry chef and very, very good. The wine list was exceptional and service was great. The only complaint was the vegetables. The verdura main course was not worth eating and the multi colored carrots were totally bland. It's a tough time of year (February) in Maine. I'm sure it's better in spring. I would definitely return but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone vegan. Vegetarians will be happy."

  • "Went there on a Thursday evening right when they opened at 5.. Reservations were not needed but I made some the day earlier. We were seated immediately. Staff and waiter were outstanding, cheese was great, wine list as well, the food on the other hand was definitely overpriced and just overall not that good. Other than that i had a wonderful time and got a second date so I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice glass a wine and great service.. Oh also I found out later i was there during happy hour but was still charged full price on drinks, didnt fine this out till the next day after it was too late."

  • "Vignola will surprise you with their menu offerings. If you want to expand your Italian style food taste buds, then you will really enjoy Vignola for it's creative and unique preparations. Don't go there if you are going to want the standard red sauce and pasta. The food was great and the service outstanding. The only negative comment would be from my dining partner, who stated the mussels were very small, but the sauce was yummy. I didn't like that they seemed to charge for everything, even for dipping olive oil. I have never seen a restaurant do that, at any price and quality level. With most of the entrees in the $20-$28 range, I thought it a little much. The wine list has a wide range of pricing and varietals."

  • "We were on a winter getaway from Midcoast Maine and were looking for a non-pretentious, but really good restaurant. Well, we found it on the small cobblestone side street, just off the waterfront. The biting cold outside was instantly forgotten, when we stepped in the wood paneled bistro like atmosphere, with just enough lights above to give warmth and cheer. The extensive wine list had interesting, less well known choices. The appetizer list was long and imaginative and the duck and my husband's gnocchi were outstanding. A definite return choice for another time, when we will have to try some of the great cheese selections.."

  • "…. Watch the Open Table stuff! After we checked in (identified Open Table Rez) we opted to wait for corner window table, started at the bar. Appetizer of dates stuffed with gorgonzola was good, but when I mentioned that 1 of 4 pieces was woefully inadequate, bartender acknowledged and offered, "I'll mention it to the kitchen". Not a response I'd expect to hungry patrons who had already ordered pricey wine. We finally sat, ordered promptly. Regretted ordering fried seafood, personally, mostly 'cause it got cold quickly near the window. Panacotta was excellent. We paid, tipped generously and left. But a week later, I checked my OTable points, and saw that CinqueTerre had marked my REZ "Cancelled". Had to email Open Table to clear it up."

  • "A friend, who knows we enjoy eating out for brunch, had suggested Vignola several times to my husband and I. We finally changed out routine and tried them out. What a lovely surprise we found. The meal was delicious, the service was top notch and the atmosphere was super. We started with a lovely breakfast bread compliments of the restaurant and a delightful full bodied coffee. We followed that up with the French toast and the shirred eggs. Both were excellent."

  • "This had always been, for me, a fine restaurant that nevertheless didn't quite deliver the experience I'd hoped. The food was always very good, but never something special. After perhaps a year since last time, however, Vignola/Cinque Terre has really come together. My wife and I both had exquisite meals, and everything else (wine, service) was excellent. Highly recommended."

  • "Our dinner was a complete disappointment. Service was slow and not engaging and the food was far worse. I had heard the food was supposed to be very good and I love good food. Well, the food was not nearly worth the bill. The calamari was soggy, the pasta with sauce was mushy & clumpy and tasted like canned tomato paste was used. My main meal was fried, and not good fried at that. We asked for a moderately price bottle of wine and the waited chose one over $50, not what I would consider moderate. The only part of the meal I enjoyed was the olive oil. Other wise my date was miserable, due to the poor tasting food, I was freezing cause the place was down right cold, and the waiter was quite difficult to find at times."
