At Vignola & Cinque Terre, we focus on an authentic European experience, and use the best seasonal ingredients, and organic, naturally grown items from local Maine farmers, suppliers and producers.

    We enjoyed the brunch at Vignola & Cinque Terre. The food selection was unique and enticing. We thought that the brunch entree with hash was spectacular. It was a nice atmosphere and the service was very accommodating.

    My wife and I went here for our 1st Anniversary and it was fantastic. Had a great drink list, tomato soup and main dishes. The atmosphere was great also.

    Used to be a "go to" standard for us but it has gone downhill. At 8:30 on a Sat. night, they were out of monkfish which is an entre on the menu and an ingredient in the Zuppa de pesce. Ordered the Zuppa and they didn't even bother to substitute another fish! Waiter said "it was probably already made up" and we were charged full price for the dish! Too many other good restaurants in Portland. Sorry Vignola, no longer on our list.

    Farm salad was just romaine with some parm. the honey dressing was nice but expected more from salad. Bread was good, wine good. dessert was good too. Rest of meal was just so so really. Price was too hefty given quality as compared with other downtown restaurants. Waiter was passable but we had feeling that he was a young guy that thought he had better things to do. We figured we'd better try the place as we have hit most of the upper scale dining in town. Not likely to be high on list even though it could have just been an off night for them (September 12, a Friday).

    Always love this place. They have the best cheese plate selection. We had the bass, a full fish dish. It was good, but very oily and fat. I can not say it was my favorite, but I ate every bite. It came with new potatoes which I picture as small, but these were quite large. The green beans were under the fish, so VERY oily. I can not say this meal was my favorite, but it wasn't bad and I still love this restaurant. We had a nice window seat with CUSHIONED chairs. I often chose a restaurant because of cushions on the chairs. I want to be comfortable sitting for a nice meal.

    Against their huge windows. Reservations a must nearly all year long. It got crowded on a Thursday night in Sept after 8 o'clock. I went with a veal steak, but thrir small plates (?), appes and pizzas, are the real deal. Huge wine list, excellent service and their people are well equipped to help with the wine. Vignola's has great bar tenders, and their bar stays very busy. This is a great restaurant in winter! Warm, bright, good food, great people.

    We were here a few years ago and the service was excellent! The food, service and the atmosphere felt more like a well oiled machine not a romantic evening out. Food is fine but it has lost its luster.

    Vignola used to be our go to restaurant when visiting Portland and we have referred lots of friends over the years. Unfortunately this time we found the menu limited (not everyone likes lamb, beef & swordfish), the food over-priced and not good (sticky pasta with no taste) and the service (at least ours) terrible (slow with everything, we had to wander around the restaurant to find someone to bring us bread, pepper, pasta spoons; server did not follow up to see how the food was). We will not be returning to Vignola.

    We chose Vignola & Cinque Terre to celebrate our Anniversary dinner. We were greatly pleased! Our waiter EriK was on point thru the entire evening. He made us feel very special. We have eaten in many restaurants across the country and would say this one tops the list right here in our backyard.

    The staff was gracious, friendly and professional. Highly attentive to our every need. Food was well prepared, traditional Italian style tweaked to an edge with balanced seasonings, but still allowing the natural flavors to stand out. The gelato desert sampler was a perfect capo. My first choice for dining out in Portland.

    I ate here with 3 others and we all agreed that the food and overall dining experience was a 6 out of 10. We were seated in the back half of the restaurant, which we were the only people there for most of our meal. The front part (bar area) when we left was much more happening. Our food was "ok." I had the beef braciole which was slightly over cooked, but edible while the others had the fettuccine and rigatoni which were average at best. Appetizers were the best part of the meal- Vignola pizza was nice as well as the calamari and Pecorino cheese sampler. Everything was decent, but not "wow!" Combined with the boring atmosphere in the back half of the restaurant, we probably wouldn't go back. A positive was the staff- knowledgable and nice.

    All the food was delicious and locally sourced! The service was excellent. We had a window seat which was great for people watching in the Old Port. Tables are very close together.

    We have eaten at Vignola many times. This time the service was spottier than usual; very slow service from both the bar and the kitchen. There was a very loud group at the bar who fortunately left shortly after we arrived; I realize managing customer noise is difficult but the space ricochets noise. Our food was good....again not as good as it has been on previous visits. The lobster ravioli were chewy and the sauce a tad too salty. We expect to return and hope this was just a night that was a little 'off'.

    I ordered the swordfish wich was good but not great. The pasta dishes of the others were better. They have a good wine selection but just a few wines below 50$. The service was good but they rushed us at the end to leave our table for the next customers. There is a bar area and the people there were very loud which brought the noise level too high for a nice dining experience. This restaurant was recommended to me and I was disappointed.

    We had not eaten at Vignola since it was opened up to Cinque Terre. In my opinion, the renovations left the main dining area of Vignola significantly less charming than before. We shared two appetizers and both ordered pasta for dinner. The appetizers were fairly good, but not great, and the pastas were mediocre at best. Service was attentive but not warm. Finally, our tap water had a distinctive chlorine taste that is not in the local water, so I'm not sure where it came from. We joked that perhaps it is to encourage customers to drink bottled water. Given the great choices in Portland, we don't plan to go back.

    The best part of our meal was the Cheese Board. The rest of the meal (for 4) was below par. From the meat dishes to the fish oferings, I would say that this establishment does not distinguish itself as do others in the Old Port (i. e Fore Street).

    Three of us had brunch last Sunday, and I am still smiling about the experience. Our waitress was attentive & amazing at accommodating some of our high maintenance specific requests. The raw oysters were the best I've ever eaten in my life. The bloody mary's were perfectly flavorful & spicy and so wonderfully affordable at $5 each. When I couldn't finish my pizza, and I was planning to attend the old port festival all day, they agreed to refrigerate it until I was ready to depart Portland. The bar accidentally gave my friend 3 oysters instead of the one she ordered, and they gave the extra on the house. I am so happy to have such positive things to say.

    We've had dinner at Vignola many times but this was probably the best yet! Mark, our server, was terrific and everything from the bread to the olives, to our great bibb lettuce salads (with fiddleheads!) AND our entrees was just wonderful. I had the fettucine with meatballs and it was amazing. Great job, Vignola!

    We chose this restaurant because of its location in the Old Port and it has outdoor dining. The atmosphere is nice with limited views of the port area. The high top outdoor tables, tho cute, are unstable which is disappointing. The vegetarian dishes were ok but not inspired. Ravioli was too much pasta and not enough filling. Gnocchi would have benefitted from vegetable addition. Small plates sounded more interesting than they tasted. I usually really enjoy Vignola but this visit was not as good.

    Our party ate at Vinola's. We were seated immediately, good service, everyone in our party had a wonderful meal. I had the duck fettuccine with a baratta salad--both excellent. Definitely would return. Yummy imaginative diverse menu!

    Not a great experience for us. The food was not very impressive at all. We took the lead on what the server recommended, not limited by price or any dietary items. We are pretty open to anything. The rolled, stuffed beef was terribly tough. Surprised that they could sustain, in this competitive market.

    Everything was great except for one dish. I can't remember the name of the entree but it consisted of over fried dried out crunchy bits of seafood nicely presented on a bed of fresh greens and oyster shells. Everything else was fine though.

    Our party of six was seated in the rear dining room where it was somewhat quieter but totally charmless. Mark, our waiter, took drink orders and described the "farm to table" philosophy. He then waxed poetic about the rib eye steak which sounded like a good choice until he mumbled that it in fact was not on the menu that night. Our entrees were mediocre; the two steaks were especially tough. We had to repeatedly ask for refills of the tiny jug of water provided on the table. The final touch was Mark's announcement with the presentation of desserts that they were out of spoons. Seriously---a supposedly top Portland restaurant was out of spoons? My husband had to eat his creme brulee with a fork!

    Vignola and Cinque Terre is great for foodies and is known for their cheese tastings. Although many people enjoy a traditional meal here with an appetizer, entree and dessert, my party instead elected to share appetizers, small plates and a pasta. We all thought the food was exceptional. Our waitress was very attentive; the drinks were reasonably priced. The barrata cheese salad was divine as was the dish of mixed olives. The salumi misto, my favorite dish, was a large board with a delightful variety of wonderful sliced meats and accompaniments such as a micro-salad and house made apricot preserves. The gnocchi was so rich that dividing it three ways was the only way to finish it! Every dish we tried was wonderful.

    We have dined at Vignola a few times and it never quite reaches our top ten list which sadly, is still the case. We had dinner here with friends on a Thursday evening and were underwhelmed by the service and the food. By far, the best thing we ate were the roasted oysters. Our friends had the duck sausage pasta which got an only "okay" review. Service was our chief complaint. Our waitress was a bit of a faux wine snob. I say "faux" because we ordered two different bottles of red, and she failed to change the glasses between bottles, after presenting herself as quite knowledgable about the wine list. She also sniffed the cork. Need we say more.

    My wife and I spent our anniversary here this year, and we had a great meal. The wait staff was knowledgable about the menu and wine list, and the chef did a great job of providing us with flavorful courses. We'll definately be back.
