Diner Reviews
  • "Reservations are a must for weekend dinners; it's a very popular restaurant. Large window in main dining room overlooks Orange Ave, adding to the evening ambiance. Service was attentive and professional. Noise level was on the high side, especially if seated near the waiting area. Food was outstanding. I had the spaghetti with mixed seafood/marinara sauce, and the pasta was perfectly al dente and seafood plentiful and fresh. My wife had penne pasta in vodka sauce with prawns, and was very happy with it. The hearts of palm salad was forgettable, however; my wife was pleased with her Caesar salad, however. Servings were so generous we couldn't try out the desserts! Loved being able to make a reservation via OpenTable."

  • "Wife and I were celebrating 10 years and they made it a special occasion with a romantic corner with full view of the sunset. Live piano was an additional touch that makes it feel more personal. The staff was so professional and willing to serve, they have an extensive list of wines to choose from, and the food was quickly prepared and tasted amazing! Beautiful time!!"

  • "We go to Vigilucci's frequently. We enjoy sitting in the bar and ordering from the happy hour menu. There is a piano man nightly, which adds enjoyment and fun to the evening. Service is always great. We occasionally take out-of-towners there for dinner too. We are confident that those looking for specially-prepared seafood dishes will be pleased---as will those looking for pastas or Italian fare. Keep doing what you're doing!"

  • "Lovely fine dinning at Virgilucci's on Coronado Island. My sister flew in from Atlanta for her birthday and wanted to dine at one of the Virgilucci's restaurants as she formerly lived in the are and was a big fan. We requested a nice table with an experienced server and asked to make a fuss over my sister's birthday. We received a terrific table overlooking Orange Ave. and a lovely professional server in Elisabetta. My sister enjoyed her Virgilucci's birthday card upon being seated and Elisabetta demonstrated extremely professional and courteous service. We decided to order a salad to share after our orders had been placed (as we saw how lovely the salad looked at another table), but Elisabetta made it happen and even dividing the sa"

  • "Across from the Del hotel is the finest Italian restaurant outside of NYC. Our first visit and not to be our last. Brunch was beyond expectations - seafood omelet contained copious amounts of lump crab, and shrimp; seasoned lightly but with full flavour. Even the coffee was outstanding - robust flavour, Italian style. A visit to Coronado must include a meal at Vigilucci's."

  • "My husband and I tried this place for the first time and were very happy with the whole experience. Our waiter was very Italian and so n top of everything. The sun had just set and we could see the ocean out the window. the water wall was beautiful and we could here live music on the patio. All around great place. We will return."

  • "Vigilucci's locations throughout the county are outstanding, and this one is no exception. You can't go wrong with the menu; pick anything that looks good to you and I guarantee you'll love it. The service is absolutely impeccable, and the staff are all warm and very friendly. The Coronado location is closest to Downtown San Diego, but if you're in the North County I also recommend trying their Carlsbad Blvd. location, which has spectacular ocean views and equally good food and service."

  • "I'm Italian, so very critical when eating Italian at a restaurant , but this place is outstanding. The food is very authentic. The service is beyond reproach. They anticipate your every need. We stumbled upon it for lunch and were so impressed that we returned the next day for dinner."

  • "Outstanding service. Outstanding food. I had veal saltimbocca and it was the best I have had. My wife's dish of pasta was bland. A comment to the waiter and her dish was quickly taken away. No questions. No excuses. When it returned it was a freshly prepared meal and it was delicious. I just think the chef forgot something on a very busy night. Near us was a large party with 4 small children. The waiter attentiveness to the parents and children was very good. I am from San Francisco and grew up in a very large Italian family. I know good food and good service. This restaurant could easily compete with the best SF has to offer. If you are in San Diego or lucky enough to be in Coronado. Make a reservation."

  • "When we got to Vigilucci's, we were seated immediately. We ordered drinks, and then the waiter had us move tables.. twice. I don't know what it was about, because our original table was not taken. Other than that odd incident, I really liked this place. The food was great! Even though they were busy, the service was still very good, and the restaurant was still quiet. We went for my Wife's Birthday/Valentine's Day. It was a romantic restaurant, with live entertainment, and a notable wine list. The prices were reasonable too."

  • "I normally do not choose high end Italian restaurants because I don't like to pay top dollar for pasta dishes. However the friend I was traveling with insisted. What a great surprise. Our server recommended a wine based upon my less-than-articulate preferences (heavy, chewy red) that was spot on. I ordered scallops on risotto cakes that was out of this world."

  • "The atmosphere is very nice for a special occasion. We had a lovely waitress, and the service was good. We ordered cocktails before dinner. One martini had to be returned because of a strange taste, and two manhattans were very watered down. I ordered a veal scallopine with mushrooms which was tasty but disappointing because the veal was tough. Two ordered the mahi mahi special with lovely presentation but a bit lacking in flavor. Perhaps this was just an off night, but we felt the prices were a bit high for the quality."

  • "Went with a few friends before heading to Hotel del for ice skating. Found on OpenTable and we were not disappointed. Wine (chianti) was great - nothing too fancy, but still perfect for each of our meals. Service was perfect - managers, hosts, busboys, and other servers kept our big group going with Fabio taking the reigns on our comfort and needs. Offered to easily swap items out for others, which you don't much in restaurants of this caliber, and welcomed shared plates and desserts. The place was romantic, yet still perfectly accommodated a larger group. We loved the waterfall! I had the gnocci and swapped the marinara sauce with meat sauce (I just had a craving!). Next day leftovers were AMAZING! Please go to Vigilucci's and enjoy."

  • "Well you don't often head to your Italian restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner but when you are out of town for the holidays you tend to be a bit more adventurous. I had the turkey which was amazing! My wife had the Butternut Squash Ravioli and it too was amazing. Our waiter, Georgio, was fantastic. Very attentive without hovering, very happy and very quick with suggestions if needed. We loved our experience there and would certainly go back when we head to San Diego again!"

  • "This was one of our favorite restaurants before my husband and I moved away. We've recently returned and it was as good as we remembered. Excellent food and perfectly romantic atmosphere on the patio The live jazz singer who sang covers of the classics was excellent - very talented. Our server was clearly new, so service could have been better, but we'll let that slide, as she was still very nice. And you cannot beat the free corkage when you bring in a bottle of wine from Wine A Bit down the road!"
