Diner Reviews
  • "Positives: charming, efficient service; quality food well-prepared and served with an artist's eye. Less positive: View is popular for big groups celebrating special occasions, so even on a Thursday parking was near impossible. Loud music leaks into the dining room from the sometimes raucous bar, so depending on where you're sitting you may feel like the least-favorite second cousins at a wedding. For me, the minuses don't detract from the pluses. Try for a seat on the deck or near the windows for a fabulous experience."

  • "The service was very good. Jennifer was our waitress. She was terrific. Making reservation I put special instructions, none of which were transmitted or acknowledged. There were 8 of us. Meals came out luke warm to cold. The sauteed spinach was actually almost ice cold in some spots. Makes me think it was prepackaged frozen and not defrosted correctly. 2 out of 8 of us sent food back for reheating. The rest of us did not because we did not want our meat/fish overcooked at that point. For the price I expected freshly prepared food. They apologized but there was no accomodation ie; free dessert or drink. There are limited gluten free options."

  • "The wonderful water view is only outdone by the great food and friendly service. I wish this place was closer to my home but it's worth the trip! Best burger I ever had. No kidding! And the duck tacos could convert a vegitarian."

  • "I have been tothe View many times. Not only is the food excellent, with a varied menu, but the scenic view is spectacular. A must for any occasion . Try the scallops and mussels. Actually, anything on the menu is excellent , even desert."

  • "We go for dinner, for lunch, for brunch and for a light meal at the bar. The setting is perfect. The staff is lovely. We were there for a wedding last week (I actually recommended the View as their wedding venue!). I told Allison, who was managing the wedding, that the View is the Land of Yes. Whatever you want - no problem. They also have a generous loyalty program which we use every time. Love, love, love this restaurant."

  • "It is worth coming for just the view. Forget under the awning, especially by the door, too much traffic going in and out. The service was great. They did not rush you at all, giving you plenty of time to relax and enjoy each course. Interesting drinks, food was good."

  • "Good food, polite staff, elegant. Long and interesting list of appetizers, tasty main courses. The 4 people in our party all said that they will certainly come again."

  • "The view of the water is one of the best on Long Island and I only wish I could say the same for the food. The food is just average but the Thai calamari is the best and worth the trip for."

  • "The view, no pun intended, was fantastic, the service, friendly and professional without being pretentious, the portions were perfect, and the food was excellent. We especially liked the timing between courses. Many restaurants often bring the entrée while your still eating your appetizer, not at View. There was just enough time between courses to allow you to enjoy what you just had and rest a bit before the next course. Our waitress, Danielle, made our dinning experience very enjoyable. We will definitely be back to try out the rest of the menu and enjoy the view."

  • "Early bird special does not live up to other Lessing properties we frequent..restaurant is beautifully located with great water views..however food was not up to standards we are use to at a Lessing property. dessert of sorbet was notably poor..tasted old and in freezer for far too long.. Scallops as main course was serviceable,,but peas and rice served with it,were overlooked and poorly done ..we have been here several times before,,but unless things improved,,we will enjoy the view from the outside of the dining room."

  • "The waters around this restaurant are beautiful to look at, but the view would not be enough to make this a great restaurant. The food is deliciously prepared and presented. The jumbo lump crab cakes are my favorite. My friend thought the crab crusted fluke was wonderful. The only drawback to the experience was the noise level indoors. There was a party taking place in an open area, forcing us to take an outside table on a windy night just so we could hear each other speak."

  • "Lunch was served watching views of boats, ducks, waves, and big skies. The food was delicious - fish tacos, salad, lobster roll. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. There was a problem with flies - not on the food, but on the windows. Also the price is too high, but it was a special celebration for us so we enjoyed it all."

  • "Loud and certainly nothing to write home about. Marinated skirt steak was thrown in a bag of soy sauce. I No flavor in meat other than soy. $34 if I'm not mistaken. Lobster bisque was lacking any flavor whatsoever, it was a darker shade of brown almost looked and tasted burned. Tuna tartare was decent. Chef Boy r dee tasting marinara on the Bolognese. Come on now... They had a teachers retirement party on the main floor. Must have been at least 50 people taking up the entire window section that were drinking, mingling and LOUD!! It was a party. Why not place a group like that in a private room so the other diners can enjoy a peaceful meal. Nothing against parties, but not at the expense of diners that drop $80 per person."

  • "We went on a Monday night to celebrate my parents 30th. Drink, food and service was great. It was Monday night so pretty empty. Only issue we had was that a little bug landed in our app but the waitress got us a new one right away. It's summer and the place is on the water, a few are bound to fly in. Our busser provided some comedy entertainment."

  • "In a nutshell....food and service adequate, menu (food and wine) limited. The experience is all about the view of the Great South Bay."

  • "My food was ok at best. I expected more from a Lessings restaurant. My husbands asked for spinach instead of asparagus and he got asparagus. His steak was tiny. Our tuna tataki app want great. We were a bit disappointed and left kind of hungry. Glad we came with a gift card."

  • "Great food, especially the calamari, great wine, a friendly accommodating staff, and a romantic setting what else could you ask for. Whether you dine inside viewing the water , outside on the deck or under the gazebo it's well worth the trip!"

  • "I had never been there but went to see a friend perform on Saturday night. We had table reservations but tha bar crowd just looked like too much fun. We sat and stood at the bar drinking great drinks and amazing food. Duck tacos were delicious. The burger with bacon and Vermont Cheddar is seriously on my top 5 burger list. Hollie is a wonderful hostess and the bartenders are real friendly professionals. Thanks! "

  • "Got there 5:45 for a 6pm reservation and was told restaurant was not open yet but the bar was available. So we went a to and I asked for a pina colada and was told they had no blender ( how can a bar not have a blender ) We were then seated around 6:10 and was served by a caring waitress. Our food came out and the flank steak I ordered was undercooked and cold. I did not want to send it back due to all the horror stories about kitchen staff."

  • "Great bar, scenery is spectacular. The service was bad & slow. We didn’t have an actual waitress assigned to us. We kept stopping someone to take our orders, drink, appetizer & dinner. The hostess was VERY frazzled; seating people without reservations, running around the dinning room very confused. Finally received our appetizers, which were amazing, duck tacos, and the Tia Calamari. We didn’t get our dinner for 20 minutes after the appetizer were gone, when they arrived the 2 steak dinners were cold, my tuna was fine and the scallop dish was fine. We spoke to the manager who apologized said that they got hit with a lot of walk-ins and removed the 2 steak dinners from the bill. Not sure if I would try it again, it was not cheap. "

  • "Would have given 5 stars for service but , they forgot to bring a soup and salad. It turned out for the best, we were stuffed anyway. Other than that small mishap, everything was great. Will definitely go back."

  • "Enjoyed very the signature cocktails mojito and old fashion. The appetizers were calamari and mussels. One of the best prepared mussels I ever had. Soup was lobster bisque and Manhattan clam chowder both very good. Main course we had tuna which was overcooked and lobster pasta which was okay. But the main failure was the two rib eye steaks asked to be prepared as Medium rare but served rare and luke warm on the plate. The potatoes with it were awful. Please do not order the $46.00 dollar steak not worth it, full of fat and grizzle. Steak was returned to kitchen but nothing really changed. So sad was the steak it became a novelty to complain about. Not even worth taking home. Would go again yes, but not for the rib eye steak."

  • "We recently celebrated our 42nd anniversary. Decided to try a Restaurant we'd been to many years ago. A gift card from my son eased the way to the View. We were not disappointed. The service was friendly and the food was better than we remembered. All in all a great experience which we hope to repeat many times. "

  • "I decided to come out here during the last day of Restaurant Week and I must say it was absolutely worth every penny. I went with a group of friends and immediately fell in love with the place because of its closeness to the water. The View (and the view itself) was amazing and everything that I was expecting it to be. The oceanic view was definitely a treat and the overall nautical theme suits the place so well and establishes its character. The food was expertly crafted and presented ever so beautifully. The sea scallops and risotto was an instant success the moment I took a bite of it. Credit should also be given to our servers Ashley and Jake because they were so friendly and attentive to our needs. My glass was never empty. "

  • "Visited with my in laws during restaurant week. Place was busy but would never have known it based on service and quality of food. Server was extremely attentive and food delivery was well timed so as not to feel rushed. Variety of menu options was extensive and quality / appearance of food was extraordinary. Although the restaurant was busy, the dining room was not unbearably loud and we were able to carry on comfortable conversation . Although we dined indoors, the view of the Great South Bay from our table was beautiful and added to the ambience. We will return soon... especially to try the sushi! "

  • "We went during restaurant week on a rainy Wednesday evening. The View was relatively crowded and we were promptly seated. Special menu had good variety and not restrictive. Food was very good....generously sized portions, prepared well and attractively served. Extra bonus - Wednesday was 1/2 price on select bottles of wine! Overall an excellent experience!"
