A word from Vieux-Port Steakhouse

Old stone walls, wood floors, large picture windows, cozy fireplaces; these are just some of the words that describe and evoke the warm and inviting atmosphere of our dining rooms. On three floors, they are as perfect for candlelight dinners as they are for family and private events.

My wife and I are proud Montrealers and enjoy trying different restaurants. On November 14 2014 we tried The Vieux Port for the first time. The greeters were unable to smile and portrayed an amazing lack of warmth. The ambiance was so-so, rather dark, we could hardly see the menu. The waiter was a now you see me, now you don't experience. He was fidgety and overly anxious to leave the table without answering questions about the menu and or offering any advice or suggestions. He even forgot the side of gravy I had ordered. The beer choices were disappointing and extremely limited. The one redeeming feature was the food which was above grade for a steak house, top choice meats and perfectly prepared. We will try it one more time to see if the friendliness level and service improves.

This is a very nice restaurant. We went there during Restaurant Week in Montreal when many restaurants were offering fixed price three-course meals. The meal we had was outstanding. One of us had excellent steak and the other excellent salmon. The restaurant is beautiful, and much larger than it appears from the street, room after room of tables on several levels. Desserts were wonderful. Our waitress was a delight, an actress, filmmaker, writer who was genuinely charming and interesting.

If you are a Sunday Brunch fan then you need to check out their Sunday Brunch. For starters it is all you can eat for $25! We invited our family to meet us for brunch and everyone...even the kiddos...loved it! We will definitely be there again. A little hint...it does get crowded so the earlier you book the better. We booked for 11am...next time we may even try 10:30 (if that's possible)!

We decided to try the Steakhouse for the first time during Montréal A Table. The menu chosen for the event was a good representation of what the restaurant is known for. The salads are a nice size (definitely not too small!). The steak I had practically melted in my mouth. The wine selection was extensive and the waiter made a suggestion that perfectly fit out budget and taste. We were sitting in the window overlooking the street in Old Montréal, which was very nice. The ambiance in the room was splendid, warm and inviting. I hope that we will return to the Steakhouse again, although because the regular menu is quite pricey, it will most likely only be for a special occasion.

More attention to the quality of the food, as in the décor & ambiance, would have made for a really nice outing. My partner ordered a French Onion Soup and 16oz Rib Steak. I ordered the Lobster Bisque & Pork Osso Buco (Misspelled on the menu as "Bucco" - attention to translation is just as important!). The French Onion Soup tasted watery and lacked flavour, the Rib Steak was almost cold and when mentioned to the waiter - no effort was made to offer another one. The Lobster Bisque was very delicious, and the Osso Buco was tender but the sauce it was served with could have used more flavouring to give this wonderful cut of meat the "stage" it deserves. Overall a pleasant environment and clean premises, but we won't return for dinner.

Do not bother going to this restaurant. The food was cold and tasteless and the wine was warm (ugh). The waiter was cold and stared at us during the whole meal. The SECOND we finished our last bite, they immidiately took our plate and brought us the following course. I understand that the service speeds up when the restaurant is full, but it wasn't that busy. We even had to ask the waiter to give us a couple of minutes to breathe before bringing the desert lol. If you want to enjoy a good meal and have a great night, don't bother going there,

good food but over priced. waiter tried pushing seafood appetizers and a bottle of wine repeatedly to the point that it was annoying. we were already drinking beer and a martini... wife and daughter each had 1 1/2 lb lobster that they loved ($87 ouch). i had the filet mignon medium that was dry. other daughter had chicken that was dry. it was crowded and the food was fresh but it didnt compare to some of the other places we ate at this past weekend like "bonaparte" or the "keg" next door.

I made a reservation through opentable because there was a deal at this restaurant. Soup and salad, main and dessert per person for $19. ....the waiter had no idea what I was talking about. He did not even check with a manager...so we ended up having to order off the menu which was fairly expensive. We ended up spending way more than expected. I was incredibly unimpressed with the deal I thought I was getting through opentable. I will not use your website again and will not recommend!!

the hostess was aloof and not very helpful. Our server was nice and funny so that helped a bit. The food was tasty but nothing spectacular. Steak was well cooked and tender. I don't like beans so didn't eat the accompanying vegetables. For a while there was a small child screaming at a nearby table (at 8pm) which was distracting and unpleasant (and I have a small child so I am generally sympathetic to this type of thing) but I don't think toddlers should be brought to such expensive places, personally.

I had lived in Montreal and always wanted to go to this place so decided to bring my large family of 10. The menu and food were good but they were not really kid-friendly (no kids menu). The waiter was also a little strange when he described the last manager ruining their menu by taking off the kids menu and changing the drink list (he said there were no gin-based drinks). Wine list was good and food was delicious and well-priced for quality received. Would go again but without children.

Went to VP Steakhouse during the $2 oyster festival. We were a group of 4 during lunch hours. We had 6 dozen oysters and shared nearly all of the appetizers on the menu. All were delicious however the portions were quite small. Our waiter was very attentive and the service was impeccable. I would recommend to anyone looking for a restaurant with great ambiance in a prime old port location. Furthermore, half way through our stay an additional friend joined us with a 1year old child. Staff accommodated this addition and even interacted with the baby. It was an all around fantastic time.

Why go the the restaurant "Le vieux port" when you have the Keg just beside... • Ambiance: - Over loaded room. - Warm old Mtl - We were 4 people on a table that would normally fit 2 without being too big! • Service - Friendly in general - Server was pushing to sell ! - We have been served a bottle of wine of a different year than announced, because of "we cannot reprint the menu every time we are running out of a specific year!". When will servers understand the year count for almost as much as the domain! - Service standards were not respected for a restaurant of this price • Menu - Very limited choices. Not even the choice of side with the meat! •Food - Good in general. Meat cooking perfectly respected. - Mash potatoes was cold

The steak was not bad and the people working at vieux-port were really accommodating. We have a 2yr old child with a stroller and it wasn't a problem finding a highchair and storage for the stroller while we dine. There was a little mix up with my wife's order for her side dish but our server was quick to respond with a complimentary side of her liking. I wasn't too sure if it was due to high volume or our server but our food took a while to arrive. I noticed that another family under another server was seated right after us, took their orders and their food arrived 20min before ours did. I didn't want to make a stink about it but we felt a little left out. Overall it was a nice first time experience. We would definitely come back.
