A word from Vieux-Port Steakhouse
Murs de pierres, plancher en bois, grandes baies vitrées, foyers, quelques mots qui résument parfaitement nos salles à manger et l'ambiance qui règne dans celles-ci. Sur trois étages, elles peuvent aussi bien accueillir soirées aux chandelles qu'événements familiaux ou privés.

Old stone walls, wood floors, large picture windows, cozy fireplaces; these are just some of the words that describe and evoke the warm and inviting atmosphere of our dining rooms. On three floors, they are as perfect for candlelight dinners as they are for family and private events.

  • "I take my 2 girls here for dinner every summer after we spend the afternoon wandering the Old Port and streets of Montreal. We always go early and midweek to avoid the supper crowds and take a table on the terrace. The space is intimate and quiet and the chickadees and sparrows always stop by to play. The portions are generous so two orders of NY steak and salmon fill the 3 of us nicely. The sides of rice pilaf and garlic mash potatoes are especially flavourful. The service is formal but very kind and attentive. It is a special occasion for us to go to Vieux Port Steakhouse every summer - it tops the end of a perfect day wandering through Old Montreal."

  • "My wife & I booked the reservation based on online reviews & menu. What a fantastic evening! The service was topnotch, our food was great. I had a problem with my steak (over cooked, and not by a little), and it was replaced with very little wait and no question whatsoever. Our server was attentive but not over bearing, and the atmosphere was great. If the weather is good, I fully recommend the terrace as it was a beautiful evening and a great setting for a dinner for two!"

  • "Had steak and half lobster with lots of draught beer. This was the best meal I've had in 6 months, and I just returned from Europe (Berlin, Prague, and Paris)! Alberta beef perfectly cooked (actually sent first one back since it was slightly overcooked) and received new one in about 3 minutes with no issues by waiter. He looked at it and saw that it wasn't pink enough. Great, attentive service. Half lobster even had some liver so I got to enjoy one of my favorite delicacies. When I return to Montreal, this will be my first dinner reservation! Thanks to everyone!"

My portion could have been cooked a little more but it had great flavor. The portions were average. The area where the restaurant is located is perfect for walking and sight seeing."

The restaurant seemed to seat non-Canadians in larger groups on the upper floor, and as a family of 5, we were surrounded by very large tables of US families, and a total lack of the intimate/Canadian atmosphere we were seeking. The service was inconsistent - the waitstaff seemed rushed and appeared to simply go through the motions. We had to ask for an extra chair at the round table to be removed, and to ask for water more than once. The waiter said that it wasn't his job and that the girl would be by; she didn't come by and we eventually we had to ask again. The restaurant is so large that it comes across as very impersonal and almost a cruise ship atmosphere. Food was just ok."

  • "I have to preface my comments by saying it was Canada Day, so they may have been short-staffed. Steak was excellent, though not the cut I ordered. Excellent ambiance and is located on Rue St. Paul in the middle of the Old Port. Had the Caesar salad, which was small and average. The service was very rushed, although not impolite. I would have ordered the mushroom sauce had our waiter not abruptly left when I ordered the dish. Wine by the carafe was extremely disappointing. I hate to say it, but you might want to order by the bottle so that you can see it opened. Neither my fiancee and I are experts, so this may just be poor quality or a bad bottle, but the Baron de Rothschild certainly tasted like it had been watered down."

  • "Took my family of 6 for the Sunday brunch. It was an amazing experience. We have ages 9 to 44 and all enjoyed the selection of goodies that were offered. The service was excellent and everyone was very polite and friendly. The food was very fresh and vibrant and tasted oh so good!!! At first I was abit hesitate to go with a price of 25$ a head, but once we arrived and I saw the array of food I knew it was well worth it. Thank you so much for the most enjoyable experience."

  • "The stars was aligned that afternoon.. great weather, super location (Old Port) and of course a good restaurant with great service. We had made reservation prior to our arrival for inside dinning but was able to change our sitting to the outside terrasse. Overall it was very good except the lobster tail (fisherman's platter) was minuscule and did not meet expectation. I will go back for sure."

  • "We went to this restaurant last year for dinner during out stay in Montreal for the Formula 1 Grand Prix and had a great dinner. Food was excellent. This years Grand Prix, not as good. Seems like they made some changes over the year and all 3 of us said the filet lost it's flavor and mine was undercooked. The garlic mashed potatoes were grainy instant like. The vegetable side (asparagus) was average. The service was good and wine selection was good as well. With all the restaurants in Old Montreal area, we will most likely not go back again."

  • "Our party of 4 dined on the Sunday of Formula One weekend, a slow night in Montreal. Vieux Port is a tourist trap. Only recommended for diners who have never enjoyed a fine steak in New York, Chicago or Texas. For all others steer clear. The Keg next door is a way better option. Water took 15 minutes and drinks 20. We waited for an ADDITIONAL 20 minutes before our appetizers made it to the table. When our entrees came the ribeye was gristle and not worth the $36. Mashed potatoes were delivered cold etc. The restaurant was 1/3 full but so was the management. Two adjacent tables were complaining and one left after requesting a manager. No "great" restaurant in a major N.American would let this happen. Skip it"

  • "Went there on the Grand Prix Weekend as well, after the race on Sunday evening. The place was almost empty and I had made reservations which were not necessary. We had been there last year during the Grand Prix too and all the staff we enjoyed were no longer around. Wine list was good, however, did not have the wine we selected and when we did chose another white wine, we were informed that it was not chilled :(. We wanted a repeat of last year's excellent menu - the seafood platter. Nothing compared to last year. We waited over AN HOUR, got almost nothing, everything was cold and overcooked - even the $87 3-lb lobster we chose - in addition to the platter. Awful. Won't be back. We were robbed big time."

  • "Went while visiting Old Montreal with another couple. The two guys ordered the seafood platter for two which was excellent, although a seafood fork would have been useful. My friend's baseball cut steak was also very good. I had Osso Bucco which was not bad but would have been better if veal rather than pork was used. Sitting at a table by the window watching the crowds go by was interesting. The waiter, although very professional, was also fun after my husband started it. If ever back here, would definitely go again."

  • "We were in town to see Cirque du Soleil and of course it fell on the first game of round 3 for the Habs. While searching for somewhere to have some great food and watch the game we stumbled across a note on Trip Advisor talking about the bar at Le Vieux-Port Steakhouse. We booked on Open Table and made a note that we were there to watch the game. When we arrived we were taken to the bar where they had set up a special high top bar table for the four of us with all seats facing the TV. We enjoyed a wonderful series of appetizers, cocktails and some great wine choices while we watched the first two periods of the game and then made the quick walk down to Le Cirque. Dining room out front and Patio also looked wonderful. "

The service was exceptional; we were called the day before to confirm our reservation, when we arrived we were immediately taken to a nice table, during our meal we were constantly waited on. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The food was very good and the lineups at the buffet were very reasonable. There were a bunch of kids running around, but that was very appropriate for mother's day. Overall great dining experience."

  • "I had made a reservation for mother's day brunch many weeks before the actual date. I had a special request for a specific section due to the mobility of one of the diners in our group. When we arrived we were given very different accomodations that I could not accept (too many stairs for him to climb). I told the maitre'd and he was quick to fix the situation. We were given a lovey table close to the buffet and all the action. I am so happy that my family was able to enjoy the brunch in comfort. My mother was overjoyed with the food quality and selection, while my husband and myself were happy that it all worked out. The brunch is spectacular and I cannot wait to go back for my next family outing."

  • "Great to see this locally owned and operated little gem doing so well right next door to a nationally franchised steakhouse. My wife and I had found this restaurant quite by accident a couple of years ago, when we just walking in our first time while touring the old port. We loved it and have been back several times since, this time with some family and friends to celebrate our son's graduation from NTS. Its now our favourite place to eat while in the city. The meal was superb, the atmosphere was great, the service was top notch, and the cost was very reasonable considering the quality of the food and service."
