A word from Vie
The first restaurant in Western Springs to serve liquor since prohibition, Vie offers guests the opportunity to experience urban fine dining in a warm, relaxed village setting. Conveniently located steps from the Metra station, Vie attracts food-conscious diners from the entire Chicagoland area. Guests will find sanctuary in the intimate, gracious dining room housed in a two-story red brick building in the center of Norman Rockwell’s Americana. Chef Virant’s cuisine reflects the seasons, local harvests and the world becoming a smaller place. While the menu celebrates artisanal foods and local family farms, it also takes advantage of the increased availability of specialty foods from across the globe. Vie features Seasonal Contemporary American cuisine inspired by Western European cultures and rustic fare.   • "Dinner was amazing!! My wife and I went there for the first time based off a recommendation and it was spot on. It was our one year anniversary! We went with the 8 course meal and was very pleased. It was the perfect amount of food, good size portions. My wife, hit a wall around course 5-6 but I kept going and helped her out. I service was great and ambiance was very nice. I highly recommend it."

  • "This was our first visit to Vie, and it won't be the last. We were entertaining a guest who uses a walker, so we picked this spot. We'd normally head to downtown Chicago for food this good prepared so well with flawless service. I started with the squash blossoms which were prepared perfectly. Our guest picked the fried green tomatoes and she loved them. The wife picked the Vie salad, which was a large portion of local greens, and she loved it. Entrees we picked were salmon, walleye and fried chicken. All were outstanding. Anyone in the western suburbs who enjoys fine cuisine will find great choices at Vie."

  • "this was my 7th visit over 5 or 6 years. It has always been a favorite. I just didn't think the food, which had too many odd combinations, was up to normal standards. I had walleye pike, but it was paired with zuchini bread which had been marinated in something, kale, and carrots. I expect the food to be outstanding and it just wasn't."

Everyone from the hostess to the owner showed that this restaurant deserves it's billing as one of the best restaurants in Chicago. I booked this reservation to celebrate our anniversary and it was well worth it. The food was excellent, and the highlight of the evening was the smoked trout. They went out of their way to make our experience there the best possible and in the end, made my wife and I very happy. We left wanting to come back very soon. I definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone that loves food and wants a restaurant that will treat them like royalty."

  • "I dined with six people including two major foodies and everything was outstanding! The cheeses, salads, and the salmon (along with the other main courses) were amazing! The butter cake was wonderful and so was my cappuccino! I live in the area and I'm thrilled that Vie is near my neighborhood! Our server was excellent as well! A true pro: funny, insightful about the menu, and wonderful with the timing of our meal! I would highly recommend Vie!!"

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary there last Saturday and once again Vie greatly exceeded our expectations. We were seated at nice table by the front window and our menus had our names and a note about our anniversary written on them - a very nice touch! The food, well the food was merely spectacular. From the fried squash blossoms to the vichyssoise to walleye and through to dessert, Chef Virant never ceases to amaze. His use of local and small batch suppliers means his menu varies but always impresses. Our servers were very attentive and helpful in selecting between choices. Vie is a very special place, clearly a gem in the western suburbs."

  • "Have been to Vie twice. Both for anniversary dinner. Both times excellent friendly attentive service and top of the world dining. Everything is tasty and the tastes blend well with each other. Ordinary fare like wife's white fish done to perfection. Something not available everywhere like my octopus and pork sausage as perfect as I could ask. Blue cheese fritters were tasty appetizer and I don't like blue cheese half as much as wife. Carrot cake dessert was uniquely surprising. Price is high but worth it. Sorry my budget can't allow more frequent dining at Vie."

We ordered our first which took a long time to receive and we were not asked for more beverages until the end of our meal until it was almost time to leave and that also took a long time to get to the table. 3 drinks between the two of us and it took longer than our food. Not a deal breaker but, slightly frustrating, especially for my birthday dinner."

  • "The food at Vie was a wonderful experience yet the service levels were of a shock. It was a quiet Tuesday night so it was not packed at all. Yet, right after completing our salads and they removed the plates, we waited another 30 mins for the entrees. Then after we completed that, our server disappeared and we asked the bus boy for our server twice - this took 15 mins. The coffee service was also full of bad timing. By this point I was truly disappointed and my expectations fell very short due to this overall timing lapse with serving."

Nonetheless, Vie made an amazing 5 course menu for us without incorporating any of those food items. I would definitely return here and would recommend it to others. I can only imagine how good the food would have been had they had the full food options available to them. In addition, I felt the service was excellent. The ambiance was amazing. I loved the contemporary design on the inside of the restaurant. It set the mood wonderfully."

The Menu was outstanding.....the first course with the hen fresh egg and maple sausage and the pea ravioli was outstanding, the second course of the chicken cordon bleu and the tenderloin another outstanding dish and the finish the carrot cake, chocolate souffle tart and the rhubarb dessert choice just completed the meal. Our server was outstanding as VIE always is always making sure we were well taken care of. If you are looking for a place with outstanding food and service for your next special occasion, you must check them out. I would highly recommend them....the VIE staff from the front to the back always makes you feel very welcome and glad you are there."

Very nice wine list and the specialty drinks were very nice. Put simply, the service was immaculate, the food fresh and vibrant. Each bite was an adventure and the combination of textures, fresh and preserved ingredients as well as the sauce work were all spot on. Price was very reasonable for Chicagoland. One of the best dining experiences we've ever had."

The glass of Pinot Noir I ordered was flat tasting. Menu was overpriced for the quality. Person I dined with said the Lamb dish was good. Nothing was amazing. Better off going downtown."

  • "one sign of a good meal is having nearly two hours pass, but having it feel like we were in the restaurant for about an hour...time flies when you are having fun. service was fantastic as was the food. we shared blue cheese corn fritters for an app, then each had a salad (mine was the spinach with a poached egg-yum, my wife enjoyed the roasted beet salad-yum/yum!). for entrees I enjoyed the pork cassolet and my wife had the strip steak which was cooked to a perfect medium temp. Cassolet is one of my favorite dishes and this was the first time I enjoyed with pork belly. paired with a Chautenauf-de-pape red wine that made for a very flavorful meal. "

  • "Vie is still a destination after years of service. Preserved fruits/vegetables are flavorful. Ramps are tasty. Scallops - succulent. Lamb preparations are special with the loin and sausage combination. Fresh pea shoots always a treat. Skate is now offered - finally. It is always a winged splendor when prepared well. I hope it remains on the list for a while. Desserts currently appear weaker than at one time. Great choice of wines. Paul, owner chef, is often at the other location, which is a disappointment. Some waitstaff has been here since beginning, like Terry, which is a good sign. There is culinary excellence here. What I find interesting is that less skilled restaurants have more bookings than Vie at times. Vie is a gem!"

We were happy to see that you could bring your own wine which really help cut the cost so we could enjoy more of the fantastic food. We were presented twice with small dishes compliments of the chef. It seemed as if they did this for everyone as I was observing, but it was still extremely nice and made us feel special. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend Vie for anyone celebrating a special occasion. I already persuaded my mom to go there with my dad for their next anniversary!"
