Diner Reviews
  • "I reserved Victor's Café for noon before our 2:00 Broadway show. Very nice atmosphere. Staff were very attentive and professional. Loved the Cuban 3 man ensemble. Felt like we were vacationing on an island. Salmon with grilled pineapple salsa was very good."

  • "We have gone to Victor's for over 25 yrs. They have maintained their high standards in service and the quality of food served. Only place to get a true mojito, a delicate and tasty tamale, the best salads around and of course the fish. Although their skirt steak recipes are memorable, their fish has to be prepared by angels. There is never a bad dish in this restaurant."

  • "I went with my BFF and the food was tasty and the service was very attentive. They even had a live salsa band playing in the bar adjacent to the restaurant. We could have used a little more light but that probably because of age."

  • "Very customer oriented, food consistently with great quality and flavor."

  • "Had a positive dining experience. The staff was pleasant and attentive. Disappointed that they charged $4 per person to slice a cake that was from outside. We were a party of 5 that ordered appetizers and dinner. It took the waiter all of 3-4 minutes to slice the 6 inch cake."

  • "I would be writing a wonderful review of Victor's except they sat us a half hour late in spite of our reservation, which were on time for. Like many, we had an 8:00 show to see and the main reason we chose them was they're in the heart of the theater district. This resulted in a very hurried dinner and a flustered waiter. In addition, while our dinner came out quickly after ordering, our dessert and coffee took longer to serve than dinner -- causing us to rush out the door without finishing either. This is inexcusable, given that large numbers customers come and go at the same time for theater every night. That said, the ambiance, service, and food were all wonderful. Staff were uncommonly friendly for a hectic, crowded NYC restaurant."

  • "While we had reservations, we nevertheless had to wait for our table . In truth, not the restaurant's fault but rather that of several diners who just wanted to linger (about 45 minutes) after paying their tab. In the end, the wait was worth it as the service and food were very enjoyable. We would return."

  • "The Times Square/Theater area is not a place we have much hope in finding really good food that's not overpriced by 200%. Victor's, an institution, is obviously frequented by locals (the hosts and manager greeted many guests by name) and for good reason. The Cuban fare here is lively, varied, and so, so good. We tried a special (grilled grouper with tamarind sauce and mango) and a steak with chimichurri, along with empanada appetizers. The food was prepared quickly, and perfectly. The wait staff was warm, friendly, not hovering, but right on the spot. Prices were excellent, and we can't wait to go back."

  • "Service was nice, mojitos were very good. Dinner was not worth at all, our food was cold. For the high prices is not worth the trip to this restaurant. We would recommend to have a drink at the bar and that is all!"

  • "OK for convenience to theaters. Not much i would recommend on the menu"

  • "We had not been to Victor's for years, but we were pleased with how good it still is. We at first had an overly hovering waitperson, but when he was replaced by an older waiter, the service could not have been more professional. We had a good time with our friends, and we will return."

  • "This is the third time we've eaten here while visiting from California. I've traveled through Cuba , South America. Victors is the best. Great service. Unique dishes."

  • "I've been here several times over the years. While the faces may change it's nice to know some things don't. Decor, food, staff are all top notch. Hard to go wrong here."

  • "Victor's never fails to produce a great evening of dining"

  • "Seriously, the rope vieja is not what it once was: it is now more a stew, almost, lacking the former plátano, or whatever it was that surrounded the dish. ¿ do you have a new chef? Noise level too high, great service."

  • "Always love this place. Food is great! service is great! Mojitos are great! I love the old school ambiance - the waiters in guayaberas, the salsa music in the background...I'm Puerto Rican, not Cuban but I always feel at home."

  • "This is officially the best place in manhattan for steak. I ordered the steak it was delicious and very juicy. The black beans and rice is to die for."

  • "My husband and I went to Victors a couple if years ago. I remember we ordered several appetizers to share. It seemed as though they had Tapas. But this time I had a really hard time picking my food. None of the appetizers sounded appealing and the main dishes just weren't what I remembered. I ordered the salmon which was tasty but really wanted a more Cuban meal."

  • "I have eaten here several times and always enjoy it. My only criticism is that the paella is not as good as it should be. The flavors are fine, but the rice is watery and lacks the socarrat that should be at the bottom of the pan. My homemade paella is better. But other dishes, such as the arroz con pollo and the ropa vieja, are very fine. And the sangria is excellent."

  • "We wanted a location that was near the theatre, accepted reservations and had an interesting and "reasonably" priced selection for Manhattan. Not only did it tick all of those boxes, but there was even a trio softly playing that set a good ambiance and yet you could still carry a normal conversation at out table of 6. Staff was warm and attentive and helpful and the food was delicious and the Sangria is a must if you like Sangria. We will go back and recommend it highly."

  • "Good pre theater brunch or lunch. Started with the ham croquette appetizer which was just ok, but the Cuban sandwiches we ordered were very good with the plantain and house made potato chips. The tres leche cake for dessert was moist, sweet and delicious. The servers are attentive without being obtrusive. The fun part is the live trio of musicians playing through the lunch hour. We definitely want to try this place for dinner some time."

  • "Over priced with sub par food. You'll pay a 40% premium over Cuba in Greenwich Village. The drinks at Victors are not good either. Worst mojito I've ever had and worst cup of coffee I've ever had."

  • "We were looking for someplace near the theater and saw some good reviews of victors. I love Cuban food in Florida and had not seen any in NY so thought it worth a try. Just so-so. The hors d'oeuvres platter was a mix of dull and duller. Suckling pig was ok but only one piece of skin. Special pork chops lacked taste, even with a sauce. We enjoyed the scene and the setting and overall had a nice time."

  • "My wife's dinner was was excellent but my steak was tough. The drink's were also very good"

  • "I had been here two times before. First experience was amazing, second not so much. Food wasn't as good and service wasn't either. Years later that same snapper was what brought me back. Thank god because again it knocked me off my feet. My date enjoyed it as well. We are thinking of going back."

  • "Food was delicious and service was great. We always enjoy our evenings at Victor's Café! My dad used to take my mom here over 40 years ago so it's very special to me...and I enjoy it as much as they used to!"

  • "A little nicer and different for pre-theater, especially in the more uptown part of the theater district."

  • "Second time I've been to this spot in the theater district. The ropa vieja is simply unmatched. My first experience was stellar, the food, the service, the overall atmosphere completely blew me away. This time around they've added more vegetarian options to their menu and the food is still just as delicious. Highly recommended. Plus the sangria is to die for!"

  • "Upon entering we felt the energy and atmosphere of Victors straight away, the lighting made for a lovely setting. Had a tough job selecting from the menu as I liked the sound of several of the entrees. Delighted with our choices though as the food was wonderful. The entire evening has left us with pleasant memories, would love to return on our next NYC trip."

  • "We've been to Victor's several times over the years as a couple. I had my bachelorette party there 14 years ago and recently we brought our 10 year old daughter for lunch before going to a Broadway play. The food is always good and the service was attentive and efficient. For lunch we ordered: Ceviche, chicken soup, salmon and cuban sandwich with Sangria (red). All tasty!"

  • "Attentive service. Convenient for pre-theatre. Nothing special."

  • "We were promptly seated for a Saturday noon reservation and Victor's quickly filled. Get a table in the rear atrium area if possible. It's lovely and there was a trio playing Cuban/Latin music, but softly enough for conversation to continue. The Aguacate Rellano, a stuffed avocado with tuber chips was a delicious appetizer to share. Their Ropa Vieja, a braised skirt steak is the house specialty for a reason! We were ordering from the brunch menu which included an egg white omelet with asparagus and goat cheese, don't bother. If you like mojitos, you'll love Victor's Classic, complete with a stick of sugar cane. Their coffees are delicious as well, I enjoyed their cafe con leche."

  • "A great spot before a Broadway show. Loved the ambiance. At 5 o'clock the place was still quiet. As people began coming in, the music seemed to get louder. That and the fact that the attention lagged a bit after our server had more tables. But minor quibbles, really. The food was outstanding. I loved the decor. Pricey, for sure. Watch out for those mixed cocktails! But would definitely come here again."

  • "If you are tired of giant meatballs in midtown, try this terrific Cuban restaurant. Ceviche is terrific. Nice wine list. Crispy plantains are better than French fries or tortilla chips"

  • "The restaurant has been renovated since the last time I was there and it is quite attractive. They also had live music in the front room, which was quite good. I was, however, disappointed in the paella. The lobster and the shrimp were overcooked."

  • "Perfectly situated right next door to the Neil Simon Theatre. I was a party of one and I arrived just after 5 PM and was seated at a table. For starters I had the piquillos rellenos and found them be more mild than I anticipated but excellent and well-presented. For mains I had the Ropa Vieja that was a bit under-spiced for my taste, and I think the portion needed to be two or three bites greater. Skipped dessert and had a second glass of dinner wine, the A to Z pinot noir that I can recommend. The restaurant itself was smaller than I anticipated and that accounts for the noise level but to be fair it was an energetic pre-theatre crowd glad to be inside and out of the blustery cold that day."
