A word from Victor's 1959 Cafe

Victor's 1959 Cafe is a little piece of Havana in South Minneapolis offering traditional Cuban fare such as Picadillo, Ropa Vieja, Cuban Sandwiches, Yuca frita, Sweet Plantains, Tostones, and other tasty recipes from Cuban cuisine. Independently and locally owned, you'll find friendly service… and a festive environment with lots of writing on the walls! (Ask for a sharpie so you can add your comments to our walls filled with grafitti). Visited in 2008 by Food Network's Guy Fieri, Diner's Drive-ins and Dives, who cooked up "off the hook" Cuban food with owner Niki Stavrou. Check our website to watch the episode! We're a tiny restaurant with only 11 tables inside and 10 more tables on our tropical summer patio. Enjoy our Wines, Beers, Tropical Mimosas and Champagne Mojitos! Also popular for our unique breakfast menu, served every day! No reservations for breakfast or lunch, just come on in... 5 mins from Downtown/Uptown 15 minutes from Mpls/St Paul Int'l airport. "I'm glad I had an early (5:30pm) reservation for dinner at Victor's, because by 6pm the place was getting busy! And after having my first dinner there, I can see why it gets so busy! Everything was simply delicious, from the appetizers (we shared the mix plate) to the Cubano sandwich with an order of black beans and rice on the side. Portions were generous and prices were very reasonable. The staff were friendly and the service was great. I hope to have a reason to return for more - soon!"

"Had a great evening for a casual birthday celebration. Fun, funky, casual ambiance. The pork dish on the dinner menu was terrific. The waitress was attentive and every one of us left full and happy."

"It was my second visit in two days. I brought a friend who had never been there--she loved it and brought her boyfriend the day after she and I ate there. He loved it, too. Our waitress, Cody, was fabulous. She was friendly, informative, and eager to give us recommendations. Her selections were great. I'm moving to the neighborhood this month and plan to frequent the restaurant regularly."

"Such a great restaurant. Fun, lively environment. Great servers, great food. Can't go wrong with the Sandwich Cubano, but be prepared to be full afterwards. My partner likes the empanadas and the yuca is delicious too. This is one of our go-to places when we want a great meal, but don't want to spend a lot."

"Everything was awesome, this has been our 5th trip since finding out about it on Diners Drive-in's and Dive's. We have never been disappointed and we have brought family and friends along after the first time and their reaction has always been the same as ours, great everything."

"What this "neighborhood gem" lacks in space, it more than makes up for in atmosphere! Cozy and very intimate, with bright, vibrant coloring and patrons' "graffiti" are the hallmarks of decor. ...And the food! WOW! Can't say enough great things about the outstanding chicken empenadas, the pulled beef and oh that heaven-sent Cuban sandwich!"
